Santos picked up a key win over Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno at Peixe’s house Pacaembu, Sao Paulo.

Santos didn’t give up an away goal in the 1-0 victory.

The match winner came in the 43^rd minute.

Peixe’s Edu Dracena nailed the golden strike off a nifty dribble drive into the box by mate Neymar.

Dracena point blank header found the back of the net.

Santos has a 1-0 advantage.

Cerro Porteno has the second leg in their house in Assuncao Wednesday June 1^st.

 One Uruguay side, one Paraguay side, one Argentinos side, and Brasileiro side have made it to the final four.

In the Argentinos Clausura, Velez Sarsfield is in the pole position with 30 points.

Second place belongs to Godoy Cruz with 27.

Third place has Lanus with 26.

Fourth place finds Olimpo with 25 points.

River Plate is in fifth place with 23.

Boca is holding steady in 9^th place with 22 points.

El Fortin defeated Gimnasia 2-0.

Los Millionaires and San Lorenzo tied one all.

Los Xeneizes and Arsenal de Sarandi tied two all.

Let games begin.

Saturday is the big day.

Man U-Barcelona battle for the Champions League crown.

The last time these two sides met in the final Barca had their way with Sir Alex and his guys 2-0.

Will Saturday be a repeat of this?

It could well be.

The Barca cheaters have one of the best players in the world Lionel Messi. His wing mates are David Villa, Pedro, and Xavi.

Camp Nou has a ton of team speed.

The mighty boys from Old Trafford have Dimitar Berbatov, Wayne Rooney, and Chicharito.

This should be a great one.

The Red Devils are playing in their house Wembley.

Will this make a difference?

It could.

The cheaters from Barca should win.

But don’t count out Sir Alex.

He has many tricks in his bag of tricks.

Both Santos and Velez Sarsfield advanced to the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores.

Santos had a goal advantage entering into Wednesday nights second leg match against Once Caldas in Sao Paulo.

Peixe scored first in the 11^th minute on a beaut by Neymar.

This close range bomb found its mark.

Once Caldas scored the equalizer in the 29^th minute.

Renteria found the back of the net.

The match ended one all but Santos advanced on aggregate 2-1.

Once Caldas needed to win this sucker.

Not on this day.

Velez Sarsfield came  into the match agianst Libertad with a three-goal advantage.

The Argentinos guys scored four road goals to salt this sucker away 4-2 and 7-2 on aggregate.

Maximiliano Morales led the hit parade by nailing the daily double.

Augusto Fernandez and Guillermo Franco joined the hit parade também.

El Fortin is now on to the semifinals.

Velez Sarsfield is also top dog in the Clausura.

Two more matches will be played on Thursday.

Univerisdad Catolica takes on Penarol in one match up in the Copa Libertadores while Cerro Porteno battles Chiapas in the other.

The winner of these two puppies will book the other two spots in the semifinals.

The winner of The Copa Libertadores and the winner of The Champions League will take a little trip to the FIFA World Club Futebol Championships.

The Reading Choo-choo guys stepped up to the plate and knocked the ball outta the park in a 3-0 win over Cardiff.

Shane Long hit the daily double to lead the Royals to finals against Swansea City to see who will get the final spot in the promotional battle to The Promised Land-The EPL.

Jobi McAnuff added an insurance goal in the 84^th minute.

Queens Park Rangers and Norwich City already have their ticket punched to the big dance.

In the Clausura Velez Sarsfield is top dog with 27 points.

Velez Sarsfield had a chance to widen the gap between them and Godoy but Lanus stepped up and sent the visitors packing.

Lanus won 3-2.

Second banana is Godoy Cruz with 26 big ones.

Third place belongs to Lanus with 23.

Boca Juniors is rising up the charts.

Los Xeneizes is currently in 8^th place after defeated hated foe River Plate 2-0 at the La Bombonera.

Boca has 22 points.

River Plate slipped to 7^th place with 22 points.

Los Millionaires has five losses while Los Xeneizes has six losses.

Both River Plate and Boca Juniors have a real shot to win the title.

This could mark the return to glory for both these storied Argentinos futebol clubs.

The major European Leagues are winding down for the Summer while in the Southern Hemisphere futebol is just heating up.

Brasil will start their Campeonato May 21.

The Clausura in Argentina will end June 19^th. Argentinos will take a break and then kick it back up again in August. The Apertura kicks off the Spring months (August) and ends in December (Summer).

The pole sitter is Velez Sarsfield with 27 points.

Second place belongs to Godoy Cruz. Cruz has 23 points.

Hanging out in third place is Olimpo with 22 points.

River Plate is in fourth place with 22 points também.

Los Millionaires has a plus three while Olimpo is a plus six.

Boca Juniors has crept into the 10^th spot with 18 points.

This past weekend All Boys shut out River Plate 2-0.

Velez defeated Banfield 2-0 while Godoy Cruz defeated Newell’s Old Boys 3-1.

Los Xeneizes defeated Argentinos Juniors 2-0.

Boca leap frogged all the way from 15^th place to tenth place.

There are six matches left in the season so Boca has an outside chance to win the title.

This Sunday is the battle of the giants Boca-River Plate in Buenos Aires.

This will be an all out war.

It always is.

River Plate has won 33 domestic titles while Boca has 23 domestic crowns and 18 international club titles.

It is good to see the big boys becoming competitive again.

For a period of six years, both River Plate and Boca Juniors have stunk the joint out big time.

There’s lots of wild stuff happening on the South American front in futebol. Cruzeiro destroyed Argentina side Estudiantes 3-0 in Group play in the Copa Libertadores.

Thiago, Wallyson, and Gilberto Melo ripped the twines for Raposa.

Cruzeiro is top dog in Group 7 with 16 points.

Estudiantes is in second place with ten points.

Both Raposa and Estudiantes are on to the next round.

In Argentinos futebol familiar side, River Plate is in the pole position with 18 points.

Los Millionaires has been hanging around the bottom of the table the past four to five years.

Maybe the hard times are over for River Plate.

Los Millionaires has won 33 Argentinos futebol titles.

River Plate took care of business on Sunday beating Banfield 1-0 on Saturday. This was Los Millionaires third win in a row.

Velez Sarsfield is in second place with 17.

Olimpo is third with 16 points.

Boca Juniors is stinking the joint out big time sitting in 16^th place with 10 points.

Los Xeneizes has lost four out of their last six matches.

Brasileiros side Gremio battles Bolivian side Oriente Petrolero in Group 2 action tonight in the Copa. 

This war will take place in Santa Cruz Bolivia.

Gremio will have to battle the top team in Bolivian futebol plus being twelve thousand feet in air.

We have written very little about the Apertura the past few months.

Top dog is Estudiantes with 36 points. Second place belongs to Velez Sarsfield with 34 points.

There are three matches left in the winter futebol season. 

Estudiantes picked up a huge win over 2-1 win over Independiente on Sunday.

Velez defeated Tigre 2-1 to keep pace.

River Plate 1-0 win over Olimpo kept Los Millionaires out of the drop-dead zone.

Los Millionaires needs to finish in the top third of the Apertura if not can you say voce vai.

For the last two seasons, River Plate has stunk the joint out. Los Millionaires has finished the previous near the butt end of the table.

This year River Plate is in 6^th place with 25 points.

The other legendary club Boca Juniors is having heap big trouble também.

Los Xeneizes lost to 1-0 to Newell’s Old Boys.

Boca is in 12^th place with 20 points.

In the 2010 Clausura, Los Xeneizes finished in 16^th place with 20 points.

Boca Juniors finished in 11^th place with 27 points in the 2009 Apertura.

Los Xeneizes has been on a down hill slide for the past three years.

Both River and Boca were once the Kings of Argentinos futebol now they are pounding sand.

Not good garoto.

It is good to see sides like Estudiantes, Argentinos Juniors, Arsenal de Sarandi, Velez Sarsfield, and the rest to compete for the title.

But part of me wishes for the good old days in the Apertura and Clausura when Boca and River was the Kings.

Not on this time around.

It is all over but the shouting in the EPL. It is winding down in the Argentina Clausura.

Estudiantes looks like they have the inside track to win the title.

They took care of San Luis on Wednesday night with a 2-1 win.

This victory moved Estudiantes into first place with 36 points.

Argentinos Juniors is a point back in second place 35 points.

Argentinos Juniors doubled up on San Lorenzo 2-1.

This was a huge away win for them.

Godoy Cruz is in third place with 31 points.

Godoy lost to lower level club Rosario Central 2-1.

This lost may have cost them a shot at the title.

Godoy was in first place on May 17^th but since then they have lost two out of three.

This is a killer. 

The boys from River Plate are in 15^th place with 19 points. Los Millonarios picked up a rare 2-1 win over Velez Sarsfield on Friday April 30^th.

Los Xeneizos are a touch better in 14^th place with 20 points. Boca Juniors defeated Independiente 3-2.

Both River Plate and Boca Juniors have been playing like crap for the past few years.

It has been reported that Riquelme could be quitting Boca once the Clausura ends on May 16^th.

This could mark the end of great run for Juan Riquelme at Boca.

Football in America had this to say- One of the greatest players in the history of Argentine football,” was how one TV pundit described him a few weeks ago. It’s a huge epithet to bestow on any player, but in the case of Juan Roman Riquelme, it might be justified.

Riquelme further stated- “Sunday could be my last match for Boca at La Bombonera,” Riquelme told one of the country’s main football TV shows on Monday. “Normally given the current state of contract negotiations] I wouldn’t go on the post-season tour with the rest of the squad.”

Boca once again is stinking the joint out. Boca Juniors lost to relegation bound Gimnasia La Plata 1-0.

This is not good. After Abel Alves was given his walking papers Boca responded by thrashing Arsenal 4-0 on Monday.

Boca reverted to their old ways.

With the win Gimnasia moved out of the drop zone

Marco Perez was the hero for Gimnasia when he nailed as screamer of a free kick to seal the deal.

Los Xeneizes are falling apart at the seams. Stars Martine Palermo and Riquelme are fighting. This resulted in Boca losing to bottom feeder Gimnasia.

However, Gimnasia now can breath somewhat easier for they are a step above the heave-hoe zone.

San Lorenzo shut out Huracan 3-0. Newell’s Old Boys and Rosario Central tied nil-nil.

Racing beat Velez Sarsfield 3-1.

River Plate finally tickled the twines. Los Millonarios beat front-runner Godoy 2-1.

Surprise, surprise, surprise River finally came away with a win. It only took River Plate almost a month.

The loss dropped Godoy Cruz outta first place to fourth. Godoy has 28 points.

Estudiantes is in first place with 30 points. Independiente has 30 points too but Estudiantes has a better goal difference a plus fourteen to a plus eight.

Argentinos Juniors is in third place with 29 points.

Argentinos and Arsenal de Sarandi tied two all on Monday.

A funny thing happened on the way to Barcelona. Our guys from Arsenal were missing their key players. It was a slaughter. Barca handed us our lunch 4-1.

What did you expect miracles.

The Gunners were without Fabregas, Alex Song, and Andrea Arshavin.

Jeez, this is like sending the lamb out to fight the wolves armed with a butter knife.

We never had a chance.

This is similar to a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.

Lionel Messi hit for the quadruple.

My grandmother could have done that against an injury depleted squad.

She’s been dead since 1976.

Messi is good but lets see how he would have done against our best.

Nicholas Bendtner scored Arsenal’s lone tally in the 18^th minute.

This was good but it went downhill from there.

Injuries are killing us.

Enough said on this subject.

In the Clausura Boca Juniors is a race to see how fast they can stink the joint out. Boca gave up a late goal to Rosario Central and wound up losing 2-1.

River Plate lost to Lanus 1-0.

Both River and Boca stink to high heaven.

Godoy Cruz shut out Velez Sarsfield 2-0.

Boca is hovering near the bottom of the table.

Boca is in 18^th place with 11 points.

Rosario Central is in 19^th with 11 points as well however; Boca is a minus six while Rosario Central is a minus seven.

River Plate is in 16^th place with 12 points.

Independiente sits atop the table with 27 points. Godoy Cruz is in second place with 24 points. Argentinos Juniors is third with 22 points.

Now the teams that have stunk the joint like Argentinos Juniors and Godoy are flying high while top clubs Boca and River are bottom feeders.

You gotta love it.
