What a second half turn around by Mengao. We fell behind 1-0 early in the second half.

Then Ronaldinho Gaucho started the onslaught with a brilliant goal in the 65^th minute.

In rapid succession goals by Thiago Neves and two by Deivid sealed the deal for Rubro-Negro.

Globo Esporte – Ronaldinho Gaúcho é o termômetro do Flamengo. A partir do momento que o camisa 10 esquenta, o time embala e caminha junto. Foi o que aconteceu na noite deste sábado, no Engenhão. Com um golaço do craque (veja ao lado), a equipe rubro-negra venceu o Atlético-MG de virada por 4 a 1 e conseguiu encerrar a incômoda sequência de empates. Além de Ronaldinho, Deivid (duas vezes) e Thiago Neves marcaram. Justamente na semana em que recebeu mais críticas desde que chegou ao clube, em função da frequência na noite carioca, o camisa 10 mostrou que ainda pode fazer a diferença. E o Atlético-MG pagou o pato. Depois de sair na frente do placar e recuar, viu o rival conseguir a reação com direito a “olé” da torcida.

This was a huge win for Flamenguista nation.

Flamengo needed this sucker badly.

Mengao entered this match with one win and four ties.

This win jumps Rubro-Negro to sixth place.

Mengao has ten points.

Sao Paulo is top dog with 15 points.

Corinthians destroyed Tricolor 5-0.

Globo Esporte put it this way- A sexta rodada do Campeonato Brasileiro teve como principal destaque a goleada do Corinthians sobre o rival e líder São Paulo por 5 a 0. Liedson roubou a cena ao marcar três gols e se igualou a Bernardo (Vasco) e Luan (Palmeiras) na artilharia da competição com quatro. O fim de semana terminou com média de 3 gols por partida e de 12.501 pagantes nos nove jogos disputados. O confronto entre Santos e América-MG será disputado no dia 2 de julho. O Peixe ganhou essa folga por ter decidido a Libertadores na última quarta-feira.

Com o brilhante resultado diante do Tricolor Paulista, o Corinthians tem a companhia do Flamengo em termos de invencibilidade na competição. Outro fato relevante da rodada foi o excelente desempenho dos clubes carioca. O Flamengo bateu o Galo no sábado. No domingo, Botafogo, Fluminense e Vasco não deram chance para Grêmio, Avaí e Atlético-GO, respectivamente.

Corinthians is in the pole position of the Serie A with seven points. Palmeiras is in second place with seven points também.

Atletico-MG and Sao Paulo are in third and fourth places respectively with six points.

Both Galo and Tricolor have a game in hand. Sao Paulo and Atletico-MG will meet on Wednesday at Galo’s house in Sete Lagoas.

Mengao is residing in ninth place with five points.

With Rubro-Negro’s one all tie with Timao dropped us four spots in the table from fifth to ninth.

Two separates the top nine clubs.

We are only three weeks into the season and the way it looks now we could be in for a horse race the entire year.

With that said anything can happen.

Flamengo has a habit of stinking joint out big time.

Mengao and Corinthians tied one all at Flamengo’s house. Willian dented the scoreboard first for Timao in the 19^th minute.

Willian slipped a one timer past the naked keeper.

This was set up by a dribble drive to the right goal line by Weldinho.

Rubro-Negro was forced to react thus leaving the keeper one on one with Willian.

Weldindo spotted Willian was free near the goalmouth so he slipped Willian the pass.

Bingo into the back of the net.

Rubro-Negro scored the equalizer in the 39^th minute.

Renato Abreu dialed up a long-range bomb of a free kick to level this sucker one all.

This was Mengao’s first real test of the season.

A tie isn’t fatal but this dropped us to mid table.

This is not good.

Mengao is in ninth place with five points.

Two points separate the top nine places in the table.

As we speak, Corinthians is top dog with seven points.

Sao Paulo and Atletico-MG have yet to play.

Flamengo battles Corinthians later today at Engenhão. 

Mengao sits in fifth place with four points.

Timao is currently in fourth place with six points.

Sao Paulo, Vasco, and Atletico-MG have six points.

The pole sitter is Galo with a plus five.

Second place belongs to Gigante de Colina with a plus five.

Third place is Sao Paulo with a plus three.

Rubro-Negro has a tough battle against Corinthians.

I am not saying this is a must win situation but this test will see if Mengao is for real or just pretenders for the crown.

Ronaldinho Gaucho needs to be at the top of his game.

Wanderley, Leo Moura, and Renato must come up big.

The old guy Petkovic must play lights out também.

UOL said this – Flamengo x Corinthians é um dos clássicos mais importantes do país, mas neste fim de semana será motivo de festa. O Engenhão estará lotado para a despedida de Petkovic e a expectativa é que os 42 mil ingressos colocados à venda se esgotem ainda no sábado. Mengao fell behind early 2-1 to Bahia. Flamengo scored two second half goals to take a 3-2 lead but the boo-Mengao gave up a goal in the 90^th minute to snatch a tie from the jaws of victory.

Instead of winning this sucker Rubro-Negro came way with a tie.

We now have four points.

Flamengo currently sits in 5^th place.

This is shades of last year’s stinko of a season.

Ronaldinho Gaucho scored first for Mengao in the 29^th minute.

This leveled this puppy at one all.

Esquadrao de Aco scored first in the 24^th minute.

Luhinha found the back of the met.

Bahia made 2-1 in the 36^th minute on a great goal by Jobson.

Jobson hit the daily double in the 90^th minute to level this sucker at three all in the 90^th minute.

Egidio and Dario Bottinelli scored for Mengao tamben.

Top dog after two rounds is Atletico-MG with six points.

Vasco, Sao Paulo, and Corinthians each have six pints as well but Coelho is a plus five.

The first week of the campeonato is in the books. What have learned so far?

Flamengo is a stronger side with Ronaldinho Gaucho. With Ronaldinho in the lineup, this opens up the entire offense and creates so many scoring options.

Thiago Neves is given the freedom to roam.

Diego Mauricio can crash the net.

Ronaldinho Gaucho is still one of the top players in the world. He is learning how to become a team player.

Gaucho had a goal and two assists against Avai.

Sao Paulo started off on a good note with a 2-0 win over Fluminense.

Flu is the won the 2010 title.

Corinthians, Vasco, America-MG, and Figueirense picked up first round wins.

Losers were Cruzeiro, Botafogo, and Gremio.

Remember this is just the first round of  long and hard Serie A Campeonato.

The season ends in December.

Flamenguistas have to be happy but Mengao can rip your heart out. Rubro-Negro always does.

I am not going to hold my breath.

I expect the worst.

Flamengo applied a ton of pressure on Duque de Caxias however Mengao couldn’t find the back of the net until Renato nailed a perfectly placed long range shot into the back of the net in the 73^rd minute.

Renato then fired another salvo into the teeth of the Caxias “D”.

Hamilton didn’t have a chance and he put the ball into the back of his own net in the 89^th minute.

Game, set, and match to Rubro-Negro.

This was a huge win for Mengao.

Flamengo is now in second place in Group A with 12 points.

UOL put it this way- O jogo caminhava para um empate sem graça, mas Renato Abreu acabou entrando em cena para liderar o Flamengo na vitória sobre o Duque de Caxias por 2 a 0 neste sábado, no Engenhão, pela sexta rodada da Taça Rio. O meia marcou um golaço de fora da área e ainda teve participação direta no gol contra marcado por Hamilton. Com o resultado, o Rubro-Negro chegou aos 12 pontos e passa a liderar o grupo B. Assim, a equipe volta a ter chance de se classificar para a fase semifinal do segundo turno do Campeonato Carioca, após ficar três jogos sem vencer na competição estadual. A colocação do time, entretanto, pode mudar após a rodada de domingo.

Deivid had several good scoring chances but he fired blanks.

O Flamengo continuou pressionando o Duque de Caxias e logo aos cinco minutos, em outro lance confuso, Deivid perdeu duas boas chances para fazer 1 a 0. Após cobrança de falta, ele finalizou e Fernando salvou. No rebote, o goleiro defendeu novamente e Ari aliviou o perigo. Mesmo sentindo dificuldades com a marcação adversária, o Rubro-Negro permaneceu jogando no campo do Duque. Aos 18, Deivid perdeu uma ótima chance de gol ao acertar a rede pelo lado de fora após cruzamento de Willians.

Vasco was a huge winner on Sunday. Gigante da Colina killed Bangu 4-0 on Sunday.

Vasco is top dog with 13 points.

America-RJ is in third place with 11 points.

Flamengo and arch rival Fluminense battle to a nil-nil draw. Both sides had several really good scoring chances but neither could find the back of the net.

Both sides were booked for three yellows apiece.

Flu keeper Felipe and Mengao keeper Ricardo Berna made some really athletic stops.

Ronaldinho Gaucho two really good opportunities but he couldn’t connect with the back of the net.

Rubro-Negro had the better scoring opportunities in this sucker.

Mengao fired salvo after salvo at Flu keeper Felipe but each time he rose to the task and stonewall Flamengo.

All in all, it was a good match for both sides.

Mengao has not lost in the Carioca Campeonato.

The insertion of Ronaldinho Gaucho into the lineup has given Mengao a powerful attack.

Let’s see how this will translate when the real season starts in late May early June.

The teams that you expect to sit a top the leader board of the Carioca Campeonato are.  Flamengo is top dog in Group A with a perfect nine points after three matches.

In Group B, both Botafogo and Fluminense are sitting in the catbird seat with nine points each.

Vasco is struggling in Group A with zero wins in three matches.

I thought Mengao has stunk the joint out big time but Gigante da Colina takes the cake.

Vasco is really stuck on stupid.

At least the Rubro-Negro guys are winning against the likes of Americano-RJ, America-RJ, and Volta Redonda.

Up next for Flamengo is Vasco on January 30^th.

Mengao has a hot date with archrival Vasco on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro.

This should be a wild affair.

Gigante de Colina started the Campeonato very slowly. Vasco hovered near the bottom of the table until they went on a tear winning eight, tying ten, and losing three since July.

This propelled Gigante de Colina to 11^th place with 41 points.

Mengao is currently in 13^th place with 37 points.

Flamengo has been on the downslide to the back forty since July. Before Rubro-Negro won tewo out of their last four matches we have been stinking the joint out.

Flamengo has not lost in five matches.

Two wins and three ties.

Prior to this Mengao went on great tear winning three matches, losing eight, and tying seven from July to September 28^th.

This sucks big time.

We were in danger of dropping off the face of the earth.

Since Luxemburgo  was hired as the new king pin four matches ago he has changed the direction of the club.

This is good.

Mengao has lots of good young players waiting in the wings.

The young guns won the Campeonato for 16 and under.

Globo Esporte wrote that Vasco and Flamengo’s rise up the table has to do with Mengao’s Williams and Vasco’s Dede.
