This is the day I have been waiting for Brasil’s first World Cup match.

Sure, Brasileiros won 2-1 but the reality of the situation is this we played like crap.

Yes, the two goals were brilliant.

Maicon scored the first goal in the 55^th minute.

He fired a difficult angled shot from the right of the box.

Maicon squeezed the ball past the keeper just inside the left post.

Globo Esporte wrote this about his first appearance in the World Cup competition.

Maicon, um dos estreantes em Copas do Mundo na seleção, disse ter ficado satisfeito com a atuação de outros jogadores que atuaram pela primeira vez na história da competição. Por ter marcado um gol logo na estreia, o jogador ficou emocionado. Mas garante que não chorou.

Maicon said he was happy and about to cry after his first Wiorld Cup goal.

Passou (na minha cabeça) tudo o que eu passei para chegar a esse momento, de disputar a Copa. E logo na primeira partida fazer um gol… Não cheguei a chorar, mas fiquei feliz, beijei a minha aliança por tudo o que a minha esposa vem fazendo por mim. É um agradecimento a todos que sempre estiveram do meu lado.

Then Robinho feed mate Elano. Elano had a walk in goal to make 2-nil Brasil in the 72^nd minute.

North Korea made it close when Ji Yun-Nam shredded the Brasileiros “D”. He ripped the twines to cut the cap to 2-1 in the 89^th minute.

It wasn’t pretty but a win is a win.

Brasil had a 3-1 edge in possession but Kaka and the guys wound up firing blanks.

Kaka was nowhere to be found.

This is very disturbing.

Eu tenho 23 opções no elenco. Se fosse apenas substituir um pelo outro, eu optava pelo Julio Baptista. Mas eles (coreanos) estavam em linha. Por isso eu quis colocar um jogador para dar mais velocidade, e esse era o Nilmar.

Then the idiot press asked Dunga if Brasil will play better against a stronger opponet.

Quando se enfrenta uma seleção ofensiva, você tem espaço. Quando um time joga fechado, fica difícil. É preciso acelerar o passe, tem que ter persistência. Mas a nossa movimentação foi perfeita no segundo tempo, principalmente quando passava o Maicon. E criou bastantes oportunidades.

Happy days are here again.

Brasil is one of the prohibitive favorites to win the whole shooting match.

Led by Kaka, Robinho, Maicon, Juan, Dani Alves, and the superman in goal Julio Cesar Brasileiros are a team to be reckoned with.

These cats are hungry to prove they can win without the super stars of the past-Ronaldo, Ronaldinho Gaucho and the rest of the fat fading stars.

Kaka and the guys have a chip on their shoulders.

Brasileiros are in a very hard group.

Check this group out.

Group D has Brasil, Portugal, Ivory Coast, and North Korea.

This is truly the Group of death.

Brasil will win hands down.

Dunga has put together a team that has size and speed.

Besides that, these cats can flat out rip the twines.

Don’t forget Dunga has taught them to play tough nosed “D”.

Globo Esporte wrote that Kaka and Robinho have led this squad to 28 wins and four draws.

These two guys make a deadly duo.

 Globo Esporte put it this way-Kaká é a principal estrela da seleção brasileira que vai disputar a Copa do Mundo a partir do dia 15, na África do Sul. Robinho é o símbolo da Era Dunga. Juntos, os dois se tornaram imbatíveis sob o comando do treinador. Em 32 jogos, a dupla obteve 28 vitórias e quatro empates. Derrotas? Nem em sonho. O aproveitamento é de 91,6%.

The futebol world is second-guessing Dunga for not choosing Ronaldinho Gaucho. For my money, Dunga did the right thing.

Sure, Ronaldinho Gaucho is an exciting player to watch. He can create magic. Ronaldo can create magic too.

The sad fact is that both of the stars are past their prime.

Both Ronaldo and Ronaldinho Gaucho were the architects of Brasil’s horrible showing in the 2006 World Cup.

In plain English, they both showed up fat and out of shape. Ronaldo and Ronaldinho Gaucho stunk the joint out.

This is the reason Dunga was brought in to take over the reigns of the national team.

This resulted in the samba boys sacking Ronaldo and Ronaldinho Gaucho.

Dung brought in younger players such as Kaka, Robinho, and Danny Alves to right the ship.

So far so good for Dunga and company.

Brasil has played very well.

The guys have great chemistry.

This is what was lacking in 2006 World Cup.

Kaka and company are hungry to prove to the world the Brasileiros are back stronger than ever.

Brasil is stronger, fast, and in better shape.

Brasileiros are playing great “D”.

To put it bluntly why screw up a good thing.

Bringing in the idiot head case Ronaldinho Gaucho would kill team chemistry.

Just ask the Italian side he plays for.

Gimmie, gimmie the ball. Let me be the star. Let me score. That’s all I can do. I can’t play “D”. I won’t hustle but I can score. Screw you buddy. Who needs you?

Let the fun and games begin. The World Cup is little more than a month away. There is already huge news from the Brasilian futebol front.

Dunga decided not to include Ronaldinho and Adriano. The makes total sense.

Ronaldinho Gaucho is a head case. He presence on the national team would kill the team’s chemistry.

Dunga said that Ronaldinho Gaucho was a great player but this was a decision-based upon what is best for the team.

Não quero que levem que eu sou rancoroso. Eu vejo vocês falarem o tempo todo que nenhum treinador colocou Ronaldinho na posição dele. Doze anos falando isso. Aí a gente faz isso. Ele vai disputar posição com cara daquele setor. Cada um na sua, vai disputar posição ali. E agora querem tirar e botar no meio? Cada um teve sua oportunidade. A capacidade e a qualidade do Ronaldo… são indiscutíveis… Mas tenho que tomar uma decisão. Aí dizem… ele está bem no clube. Mas mais me importa o que acontece na seleção.

Kaka, Robinho, Maicon, Julio Cesar, as well as the goat Julio Baptista, Josue, Nilmar, and Gilberto have been the main stay of the national team since Dunga took over three years ago.

Na tarde desta terça-feira, o técnico da seleção brasileira anunciou os 23 convocados para a Copa do Mundo da África do Sul sem surpresas. Paulo Henrique Ganso e Neymar não foram chamados. A maior novidade foi Grafite no lugar de Adriano. Na decisão do treinador valeu o esforço do grupo formado ao longo de seus três anos e dez meses à frente da seleção. Nas vagas que ainda levantavam dúvidas, foram confirmados Gomes, Doni, Gilberto, Michel Bastos, Thiago Silva, Kleberson, Nilmar e Grafite.

Ireland hung tough with the boys from Brasil for most of the first half. An own goal Ireland’s Keith Andrews in the 44^th minute sealed their doom.

Robinho added a classic goal in the 76^th minute to seal Brasil’s 2-0 win over the game Irish squad.

Robbie Keane was the Irish captain.

Ireland came out smoking.

Keane made a mad dash down the right sideline. He weaved his way into the center of the pitch. Keane let fly with a zinger. Brasilian keeper Julio Cesar ate up the shot near the right post.

The Irish launched another attack but Paul McShane’s header just missed connecting with the back of the net.

The Brasilians began to apply the pressure.

The guys began to take control of the match after this. Adriano and company began to display the attacking style of futebol that made us famous.

Robinho fed Adriano with a perfect ball but the Emperor was stopped dead in his tracks. The ball came straight to Robinho. Robinho fired the one timer. The shot goes ker plunk off the back of Irish defender Kilbane and into the hands of keeper Shay Given.

Adriano had a great shot off a free kick but Irish keeper Shay Given brushed aside the shot.

The break came in the 44^th minute. Kaka made a great dribble drive into the box. He passed to his mate Robinho. Robinho fired. Bingo. The ball met Ireland’s Keith Andrews. It’s an own goal.

This was the match breaker.

Como aconteceu com frequência respeitável em jogos recentes do Brasil, o lateral-direito foi diante da Irlanda um dos principais caminhos de acesso até a área do adversário, junto com Kaká. Foi através do lateral que acabou construído o primeiro gol da vitória no Emirates Stadium.

Before we go ape shit over this half assed performance by Brasil let’s remember this was a tune match. This match was designed to give Dunga a chance to look at different combinations and to see how they worked or didn’t.

This is what a friendly is for.

Dung will now have a clearer picture what combinations work.

The final tune is done.

Lets see how the squad will shake out.

Dunga will make his final decision on the 23 man World Cup roster in May.

We have the final tune up before the 2010 World Cup kicks off in June in South Africa. Brasil battles Ireland at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday March 2^nd.

This will be Dunga’s last chance to tweak the line up and see which players will make the final World Cup squad.

Sure, bets are Robinho, Kaka, Cesar, Luis Fabiano, Maicon, Lucio, Daniel Alves, and Felipe Melo.

This is just a partial list.

Adriano will be teamed with Robinho up front. I sure hope this works out. Adriano is still very iffy.

This is my take on the situation.

Please Dunga whatever you do not and I repeat do not include the head case Ronaldinho and the fat old man Ronaldo on the squad.

Please for this will surely ruin the team chemistry.

Mengao rested Vagner Love, Adriano, and many other starters in Sunday’s match against Boavista. This move almost bit us Flamenguistas in the butt. Rubro-Negro slipped past Boavista 2-1.

In what should have been a cake walk Mengao almost wound up losing to lower division Boavista.

Sure, this was a meaningless match. Flamengo has already advanced to the semi-finals of the Guanabara Cup. Jeez, guys a loss to Boavista would have been devastating.

Thank God, this didn’t happen.

It took us a while to get going. Actually, it was the 41^st minute before Mengao dented the twines. If you want to see classic futebol, the opening salvo is for you. Rubro-Negro made ten passes in, around, and through the Boavista defense. Mezenga ripped the header into the open net to give Flamengo a 1-0 lead.

Boavista found the answer in the 56^th minute. Edson nailed home the header off a well placed corner kick right in front of the goalmouth. This was the classic “Oh Lay” defense or as others like to call it the Swiss cheese “D”.

Whatever you call it, it was stupid defending by Rubro-Negro.

The guys sucked it up and scored the match winner in the 60^th minute. Mengao pushed the ball down the left wing. Bing bam, boom a pass into the center of the box. Kleberson puts his left boot on the ball. Bamo, the ball beats the keeper dead to rights on this wide-open point blank shot to lift Mengao to the 2-1 win.

Whew, that was close.

Yes, we showed some signs of brilliance but for most of the match, Mengao played like a bunch of clodhoppers.

Us Flamenguistas are happy about the win but we will have to play better if we want to beat hated foe Botafogo in the semi-finals.

News out of the Rubro-Negro camp has it that superman Petkovic will be ready to play in the semi-finals.

We sorely need him.

Robinho made his debut for Santos on Sunday. Robinho ripped the matching winning goal in the 86^th to lead Santos to a 2-1 win over Sao Paulo.

Robinho didn’t play until the later stages of the second half. He had an immediate impact. He had fours shots on goal. Robinho displayed the talent that made him one of the best players in Brasil.

Home cooking is always better than food on the road

Robinho was very uncomfortable at City. He didn’t play with the flare and gusto he had shown in Spain and the Brasil national team.

The EPL is not for everyone.

My question is this, why do so many Brasilian futebol players have a hard time playing in England. When players like Rohinho, Kaka, Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho go to Spain or Italy they flourish.

Why is this?

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. Today is Boxing Day in merry old England. We have some huge matches on tap for today and Sunday. These puppies will have a lot say on who will win the EPL title.

Spurs have a hot date with Fulham. City takes on Stoke City. Chelsea takes a little trip to St. Andrews to battle Birmingham.

Eight points separate the top five cubs. This is not a huge spread but it does give Chelsea a little room to breath or as I like to call it wiggle room.

This is the advantage of being in the catbird seat.

Spurs need to handle Fulham. Tottenham needs to get a full three points. Jermain Defoe and his buds need to find the back of the net. Spurs need to strike early and often if they want to keep pace with the leaders.

Chelsea and Birmingham should be a classic battle. Blues are currently in seventh spot with 28 points. If the Blues don’t watch out Blues could perform a little bit of the Blues Brothers on em and wind up with three points.

For as good as Chelsea is they are very inconsistent. One match the Blues kick butt and the next they eek out a tie or lose.

Maybe this match could be Blue on Blue.

Drogba and the guys need to perform at a top level.

The dog has the edge.

Birmingham is at home and Chelsea’s road record is just a hair over 500.

For one I am very curious to see how City performs after their manager Mark Hughes was 86^th outta the joint. Mancini is the new dude in City. Lets see how Mancini can motivate the players to perform at high level.

Sure, City had some huge holes but Hughes did a good job at getting the players to play for him.

Will Tevez, Bellamy, and Robinho phone in the match or will they play balls to the wall.

Boxing Day will give us all the answers we need on this subject.

The boys from Old Trafford need to put their past crappy performances behind them and win on the road on Sunday.  Hull City will be a very dangerous opponent. The Tigers are a bottom feeder. Man U are not road warriors this year. Manchester United has four road losses already this year. Another one might stick a fork in the dream of a historic four peat.

Rooney, Berbatov, and the rest of the boys need to come out breathing fire. Goals are a must. Hopefully the leaky “D” will stand up and not let Man U down again.

The Gunners and Aston Villa have a huge battle at Emirates on Sunday. This baby is for all the marbles. Both clubs are tied for third. Arsenal and Villa each have 35 points.

Be prepared for both the Gunners and Villa to throw their best Sunday punches. This baby should be a wild one.
