Author: Flamengo stunk the joint out in a 2-1 loss at Maracanã.
Mengao had a chance to move up the table but no! Rubro-Negro gave up two late second-half goals.
This sucks big time.
This win marked the first time Goias won at Maracanã in fourteen years.
Globo Esporte wrote this-Num jogo de muitos passes errados – 59 do Flamengo contra 54 do Goiás, totalizando 103 -, venceu quem errou menos e aproveitou melhor as chances. O Goiás pôs fim a um jejum de 14 anos de vitórias sobre o Flamengo no Rio de Janeiro – o último triunfo havia sido em 1986 – e, de virada, bateu o rival por 2 a 1, na noite deste sábado, no Maracanã. Hugo e o estreante Otacílio Neto entraram e marcaram no fim da partida os gols do triunfo esmeraldino, que rouba o quarto lugar do Rubro-Negro na tabela do Brasileirão antes da parada para a realização da Copa do Mundo e põe a equipe carioca em crise – a torcida vaiou e ofendeu o time com gritos de protesto aos jogadores e ao técnico Rogério Lourenço.

Both teams played like crap. Menago was worse. Sure Flamengo was missing several key players but this is just an excuse. Lourenco needs to make sure the players are ready to play. This is his job.

Read this by Globo Esporte-Se na segunda etapa a partida cresceu em nível técnico e em emoção. o primeiro tempo foi duro de se ver para quem compareceu ao Maracanã ou acompanhou pela TV. As duas equipes, juntas, conseguiram dar 66 passes errados – 37 do Flamengo e 29 do Goiás – em 45 minutos. O resultado de 0 a 0 acabou justíssimo. Para se ter uma ideia, demorou apenas 15 minutos a paciência da torcida rubro-negra. Debaixo de chuva, via o time sucumbir à boa marcação do Goiás na saída de bola. Sem Petkovic no meio-campo e Vagner Love no ataque – os dois estão contundidos -, ficava mais difícil sair jogando e ainda consertar os erros que já vinham de trás. Michael e Vinícius Pacheco erravam passes em demasia e arrancavam as primeiras vaias. Bruno Mezenga, de malas prontas para o Légia, da Polônia, e convocado às pressas para fazer a última partida no clube que o formou, era a nulidade de sempre.
Sure Lourenço made changes but they didn’t work.
O técnico Rogério Lourenço trocou o volante Maldonado, lento em campo, pelo meia Camacho. E logo aos 18 segundos o garoto rolou para Mezenga, que chegou atrasado e perdeu a primeira chance. O atacante rubro-negro tentou se redimir logo depois e, ao driblar Rafael Tolói e Wellington Saci, bateu cruzado para boa defesa de Calaça.
Mengao struck first in the 51st minute. Toro ripped the twines to give us a 1-0 lead. This goal was set up a great centering pass into the teeth of the box.
Toro side stepped a Goias defender and slipped the ball into the back of the net.
Then all hell broke loose.
The Mengao “D” fell apart.
Verdao scored in the 84th and 87th minutes to spell defeat for us.
Douglas dead on free kick from 35 yards out flat out beat Bruno top shelf right.
Wellington did the famous shirt tug on Hugo.
Yellow card and free kick resulted in the buda bing buda boom.
Otacilo Neto easily made his way thru the Flamengo “D.”
A juke right and then a side step left. Shot. Goal Neto.
Bruno never had a chance.
Bruno got his paw on the ball but he couldn’t keep the shot out.
Goias wins 2-1
This is not the way to enter the World Cup break.
This might cost Mengao a shot at the title.
This gives us two losses at home.
The Flamenguista nation is sad and sick all at the same time.
The good news is this.
Ronaldinho Gaucho and Riquelme may be headed to Flamengo.

Boca finally got off the schnid with a huge 2-0 win over San Lorenzo. Riquelme returned to action for the Los Xeneizes. He led Boca to the win. Riquelme fired a perfect header into the teeth of the box. Mate Matias Gimenez ripped the winner in the fourth minute to give Boca a 1-0 lead.
Riquelme fed his buddy Martin Palermo NOT! Palermo tickled the twines in the 71st minute to secure the win.
Riquelme and Palermo hugged each other after the goal.
Did they bury the Hackett?
I doubt it.
Winning cures all problems.
River Plate reverted to their losing ways. Los Millonarios stunk the joint out in a 1-0 loss to Estudiantes.
River Plate cannot score or win on a consistent basis.
Argentinos Juniors blasted relegation bound Gimnasia La Plata 3-1.
Atletico Tucuman tied two all with Rosario Central. Tucuman was given their walking papers. Adios amigo.
The Clausura looks like this.
Top dog is Estudiantes with 33 points. Argentinos Juniors is in second place with 32 points. Godoy Cruz is third with 31 points.
River Plate dropped to 17th place. Los Millonarios has 16 points.
Boca is a notch better. Los Xeneizes has 17 points.
It is sad to see Boca and River stinking the joint out but it is nice to see clubs like Godoy Cruz, Argentinos Juniors, and Estudiantes compete for the Clausura title.
