The 2010 World Cup is in the books. Spain defeated Netherlands 1-0 to win their first title. I was happy for the Spanish side but I was sad Brasil didn’t win.

Spain became the first team lose their opening round match and go onto win the World Cup.

So much for the press template.

A friend of mine at the radio station where I work asked me what did I think about the World Cup.

I told him it was a chippy match. The Dutch played dirty because they couldn’t keep up with Spain’s superior speed.

It was down right dirty futebol. Especially De Jong’s foot to the chest of the Spanish player.

This should have been a straight card.

The ref had his head up his butt on that one.

My friend is a former professional wrestler.

We both are air personalities.

I am the a futebol freak and Seth is a former professional wrestler working together. Then throw into the mix Ross a hockey nut and Dave a straight-laced news guy makes the radio station kinda wild.

The news guy and myself are the only true futebol nuts.

The ESPN idiots and the clowns in the press are having a cow that Rooney, Messi, and Kaka didn’t score.

Rooney entered the World Cup tourney broke down. He was part of the walking wounded. Rooney has been hurting since September 2009.

This is the direct result from playing futebol year round.

Hey, give the guy a rest.

Kaka was not the primary scorer on the Brasil side. Kaka was the point guard to use hoops terminology. His job was to distribute the ball to Robinho, Elano, and Fabiano.

Kaka’s role and I repeated his role was to dish out assists.

Don’t doubt me on this.

This was Dunga’s system.

The stoops at ESPN were either blind or were stuck on their template.

What killed Brasil in the match against Netherlands was Elano was hurt.

Without Elano, this enabled the Dutch to marshal their forces to stop Robinho and Fabiano.

With a Elano healthy, this would have opened up the pitch.

Instead of a two-pronged attack, Brasil would have three go to guys.

Yet, this doesn’t take away from the boneheaded stomp on the ankle by Mello.

You can’t lose your cool in times of crisis.

I am not saying if Mello didn’t do the unforgivable sin Brasil would have won but he did kill Brasil’s chances of mounting a serious comeback.

Brasil played team ball.

They were not a team of stars.

The Brasil press went nuts on this.

Globo Esporte and UOL wanted the likes of Ronaldinho and Ronaldo to play. They blamed Brasil’s defeat on the lack of stars.

Yet, the stars of 2006 stunk the joint out.

They were fat, out of shape, and drugged out.

These stars lost in the quarterfinals too.

Brasil lacks two players.

One is a money player.

This is the cat that can take over a match and score.

A dude who can carry a team on his back like Pele.

A Pele comes along only once in a million years.

Yet, if Kaka, Elano, Robinho, and Fabiano can play together for another four years Brasil will be almost unbeatable.

The second is a stopper on “D”.

Dunga knew what he was doing.

He was fired or quit according to what source you read was because he didn’t placate the Brasil press and the CBF.

Dunga should not have been fired.

This was stupid.

England needs to fire Capello.

Fire the entire team and rebuild from the ground up.

The English side was overrated.

Germany will be a force to be reckoned with in 2014.

Spain is a one hit wonder.

The Netherlands had their chance.

Argentina needs to fire Maradona.

Argentinos will need to replace Tevez and whole slew of players.

Maradona is fun for quotes but a futebol mind he is not.

Hire a real coach.

Try Europe.

Uruguay was a huge surprise to many.

Not me.

Uruguay had to go through the qualifying route to make it to the World Cup.

The Uruguayans are for real.

Suarez and Forlan are for real.

This squad is made up of some real good young studs.

Forlan scored five goals.

All in all, it was a fun World Cup.

South America proved they can hang with the big boys of Europe.

The power is shifting from Europe to South America.

Spain defeated Netherlands 1-0.

This match was in doubt until Dutch defender; John Heritinga was given the heave-hoe in the 108th minute.

Spain responded when Andres Iniesta nailed a perfect one-time volley off a great pass.

Spain becomes the first team to win the World after losing their opening match.

To honest with you, this match was very chippy.

Netherlands knew they couldn’t keep up with the Spanish speed so the Dutch decided to play roughhouse.

There were 12 yellow cards given out and one red card.

The Dutch had seven of those bad boys while Spain had five.

Netherlands star Arjen Robben had two clear-cut winners but each time he missed it by that much.

Spanish keeper Iker Casillas came up big both times.

After the match, Casillas was on tears.

Spain’s Cesc Fabregas had two clear winners as well too.

Kudos to Dutch keeper Maarten Stekelenburg played great too.

This was Spain first World Cup final.

The Spanish were ranked number one for most of the past two years.

Brasil entered the World Cup as the number one team because Spain stunk the joint out against USA in the 2009 Confederations Cup.

How many ways can you say ugly?

This was ugly hard-nosed futebol.

It came down to this Spain didn’t lose their composure when the Dutch decided to roughhouse it.

In the end, their patient attacking style paid off.

Spain is the 2010 World Cup Champions.

This is the third time the Dutch were bridesmaids in the World Cup.

This closes the books on the 2010 World Cup.

Finally the nation of Spain can breath a huge sigh of relief.

Spain defeated Germany 1-0 to advance to their World Cup final.

In reality, the Spanish last played in the World Cup semifinals.

Get this it was way back in the way back machine.

Try 1950.

Huge Kudos to Spain for their steady march towards their first title.

Spain is like a snake playing with its prey before killing it.

The Spanish are trying become the first team who lost their first World Cup match and win the title.

Italy lost their opener and made to the 1994 finals but lost to Brasil.

The German’s sat back and tried to play a defensive chess match with Spain.

Absorb the attack and then counter attack. It sounds good on paper but reality it is stupid.

Spain played with Germany thru the entire match.

The Spanish should have scored at least four times before Xavi nailed a perfect corner kick into the center of the box. Mate Carles Puyol poked home the header in the 73rd minute to send Spain to the finals against the Netherlands.

Puyol had plenty of hops. He out leaped a defender and one of his mates.

What makes this feat even more amazing is this Spain played without its two big time players Fabregas and Torres.

Both were hurt.

Fabregas and Torres will be ready for the final on Sunday against the Netherlands.

If the Netherlands uses this blue print to beat Spain, you can kiss your butt good-bye.

The Dutch have the firepower to match Spain’s.

Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt, Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie, and the old stand bys Arlen Robben and Wesley Sneijder.

This match features two teams who have not won a World Cup title.

The last time this happened was in 1978 between Argentina-Netherlands. Argentina won the whole enchilada.

This will be a barnburner.

You gotta love it.

The Dutch have made to the World Cup Finals. This marks the first time the Netherlands have made to the Word Cup Finals since 1978.

The Dutch lost Argentina in the 1978 finals.

Netherlands beat Uruguay 3-2.

The Dutch drew first blood when Giovanni Van Bronckhorst nailed a long  range missile in the 18th minute.

Uruguay tied this baby up one all in the 40th minute. Forlan hit the sweet spot in the back of the net off a deadly free kick from 25 yards out.

Uruguay put a strong fight against the mighty Dutch for most of the match.

Goals by Wesley Sneijder in the 70th minute and Arjen Robben in the 73rd minute broke wide open a one all match.

Sure, Uruguay added a cosmetic goal by Maxi Pereira in the 90th minute to make it a respectable 3-2.

The Uruguayans had two really good chances in the 93rd minute but missed it by that much.

The Netherlands has never won the World Cup.

With they finally break into the win column?

We will find out Sunday.

Germany-Spain will be played later today.

This will be a classic.

Germany is going for their fourth World Cup while Spain has never made this far.

The Germans last won the title in 1990.

Spain has lots of talent but nothing to show for it.

Will Cesc Fabregas, Xavi Hernandez, David Villa, and Fernando Torres.

Germany has the pedigree.

Miroslav Klose, Thomas Muller, Mesut Ozil, and Phillip Lahm will provide lots of trouble for the Spanish.

These two teams met in the European championship.

Spain won.

This will be a classic.

The 2010 World Cup is almost in the books.

We have a slight break until the semifinals are played on Tuesday and Wednesday.

This World Cup is chalk full of surprises.

Who would thunk it that four South American teams would have made it to the quarterfinals.

The biggest surprise was the ease with which the Germans dismantled Argentina.

Germany flat out took Argentinos to the woodshed.

4-0 was a massacre of enormous proportions.

Maradona was the darling of the press but he can’t coach worth a lick.

Argentina had the best strike force in the world but if the coach doesn’t make adjustments, you lose.

Just ask Maradona.

The Netherlands come from behind win over Brasil.

When Brasil is leading at halftime, they had a perfect record.

Not this time.

Brasil fell apart after scoring the first goal.

This is totally uncharacteristic of Brasil.

The own goal and the leg stomp killed em.

Both sides were chippy from the outset.

Brasil lost its cool.

Brasileiros failed in its first real test.

Dunga won’t be back as manager.

Brasil is at least one player away from being a dominant force in world futebol.

Spain may become the first team to win a World Cup after losing their first match.

Germany-Spain will be a classic.

Talk about classic. How about Spain-Paraguay? Two missed PK’s and the off the left post goal late in the match to send the Spanish to the semifinals.

My hat is off to Paraguay.

Many of the so-called pundits predicated a Spain blowout.

Uruguay is seeking their third World Cup title.

Uruguay hasn’t won the World Cup since 1950.

These are just some of my observations of World Cup.

More to come on Tuesday.

De Futebol

This is a very sad household today.

Brasil lost to the Netherlands 2-1.

Both my wife and I are very sad after Brasil fell apart in the second half. This is the first time Brasil failed to win after leading at half time in a World Cup match.

Robinho nailed the winner in the 10th minute to give us a 1-0 lead.

A great pass set this up from Felipe Melo.

Then all hell broke loose.

Brasil fell apart.

Felipe Melo and keeper Julio Cesar had a little mix up. Melo stepped in front of Cesar. The ball bounces off of Melo’s head into the back of the net. It’s tied one all in the 53rd minute.

This was the match changer.

The Dutch turned up the heat..

Wesley Sneijder nailed a great header in the 68th minute to send all of Brasil on suicide watch.

Melo freaked and decided to stomp on Netherlands Arlen Robben’s ankle.

This was dumb. It was beyond dumb. It was stupid.

He gets 86th in the 73rd minute.

Dutch coach was down right pissed by the Melo’s dirty play. Brasil should ashamed of the way they acted.

O volante brasileiro achou o cartão vermelho injusto.

Kiss the ball game bye-bye.

Cooler heads should have prevailed but this is the South American way. Fall behind. Lose your cool.

Voce vai.

The entire nation wants to fix the blame on Dunga.

Yes, he is the coach but this team played better than the 2006 fat out of shape stars.

You can say what you want but it is easy to win as a front-runner but the real test is when a team falls behind and has to crawl back and win.

This takes heart.

Maybe Brasil doesn’t have the heart to do this.

This loss shocked the entire Brasileiro nation.

Julio Cesar spoke about the loss. He was very sad.

Netherlands showed heart by hanging in there until Brasil made a mistake. The Dutch came back and won. This takes a ton of heart.

UOL wrote that Brasil failed in its first real test in the World Cup. Brasileiros looked good against inferior teams but when they came up against a top team they failed.

Uruguay showed lots of heart by falling behind 1-0 to Ghana.

There was no quit in this dog.

Forlan nailed a perfect free kick from 25 yards out in the 55th minute to tie this sucker up at one all.

Then Luis Suarez swept away a shot on goal in the 120th minute.

Suarez was given the heave-hoe.

Gyan did a choke city. Gyan hit the cross bar. Ker plunk baby. Choke collar time.

Uruguay went on to win in a PK shoot out 4-2.

Next up for Uruguay is the Netherlands in the semi-finals.

De Futebol

On the verge of leading Brasil into their quarterfinal match against the Netherlands, former Dutch star Johann Cruyff said he wouldn’t pay to see Brasil play.

He said Dunga has led Brasil into the shits.

Dunag fired back that FIFA gave him free tickets.

Let’s look at the facts.Brasil played the beautiful game in 2006 with fat out of shape stars. Ronaldo, Ronaldo Gaucho, Adriano, and the rest of the drugged out pill popping team that got bounced in the quarterfinals.

They played like crap.

These clowns thought all they had to do was show up and the other teams would bow down and lose.

Not so fast bucko.

This team needed to be overhauled.

Dunga brought in younger, faster, and stronger players.

Kaka, Robinho, Maicon, Fabiano, Elano and Daniel Alves have played great.

This team plays great “D”.’

Kaka is the key.

He is the Magic Johnson of Brasil.

Without Kaka feeding the ball to Robinho, Fabiano, and Elano Brasil would be lost.

Cruyff can blow it out his butt.

He is a has been who has never coached a team in his life.

How many World Cups has Cruyff won?

None. Zippo. Nada.

Dunga has two rings.

The match between the Netherlands and Brasil will be a nutcracker.

Both sides are evenly matched.

Kaka is the key.

If he can set up Robinho and Fabiano Brasil will win.

Brasil has good team speed.

Brasil needs to control the tempo.

If Brasil can spread out the attack and force the Dutch to play a running “D” Robinho and Fabiano will shred the Netherlands to pieces.

Brasil will win 2-1.

We did it. Brasil took care of business by shutting out Chile 3-0.

The guys were at their best.

This was one of those slow marches into enemy territory. Inch by inch Brasileiros took control of the match.

Juan’s wicked header off a well-placed corner kick from Ismael Fuentes in the 34th minute gave Brasil a 1-0 lead.

From this point on it was baby this sucker is done.

Luis Fabiano took to the rack. A fake left. A side step right. Here is your jock mister keeper. Fabiano deposited the rock into the back of the empty net in the 38th minute.

Kaka set this sucker up with a perfect feed into the box.

Kaka is not scoring but this dude is making the magic man Magic Johnson proud.

Just call me the assist man Kaka.

Who needs scoring when your best player is setting the table for the rest of his mates.

Robinho’s strike in the 59th minute was the final nail in Chiles coffin.

Ramires stole the ball at midfield. He took straight up the middle of the pitch.

Ramires arrived at the top of the box and hit Robinho with a little diddy.

Top shelf right and this baby was over.

It is on to the next round for Brasil.

Now we take on Netherlands.

The Dutch defeated Slovakia 2-1.

This match will be a classic battle between to futebol giants.

After the victory Brasil was okay, this was cool.

Next.

Dunga has this squad focused on the prize.

The World Cup title.

Up next Netherlands in our march to the title.

I am happy as a bug in a rug. The two 2006 World Cup finalists were given their walking papers.

Runner up France and 2006 World Cup chump, I mean champ, Italy didn’t make it out the Group stage.

Italy lost to of all people Slovakia 3-2.

On Tuesday, the French stunk the joint out in a loss to 2-1 loss to South Africa.

Only 2006 third place World Cup side Germany made it out of the Group stage.

This was just barely.

Paraguay and the Kiwis-New Zealand tied nil-nil.

Paraguay wins Group F.

Slovakia winds up in second place.

The Netherlands took care of business beating Cameroon 2-1.

The Dutch went undefeated in Group E.

Netherlands is the only European team that played very well.

Japan blasted Demark 3-1.

Japan finished second in Group E.

The dance card for the first round of the knockout stage is almost complete.

The Group H is in doubt.

All Chile has to do is beat Spain.

Spain is hanging a by thread.

The Spanish need to win.

Switzerland needs to beat Honduras by more than two goals or hope that Spain wins by a huge margin.

Chile has six points. They are a  plus two.

Spain has three points. The Spainish are a plus one.

Switzerland  has three points. The Swiss are even money.

I want Chile to send Spain to the cleaners.

Spain was the odd on favorite by many to win the whole shooting match.

I know I picked them to have a good shot to win it all but in my heart I would love to see them 86th.

The European sides are having a horrible World Cup.

South America is having a great World Cup so far.

Brasil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay are on to the next round.

The power of futebol has shifted to South America.

Everyone knows that Brasil and Argentina are world powers but what most folks don’t know is that club futebol in Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and the rest of South America is very good.

If folks would examine the Copa Libertadores, they would see how good theses sides really are.

It is always EPL this, Italy that, French this and Spain that. But the clubs from South America drive these European clubs nuts.

All you have to do is look at the results the past few years in the FIFA World Club Championship.

Finally, Portugal played very well although be it against an inferior foe North Korea. Portugal flew to a huge 7-0 win.

Even the fake Ronaldo scored his first 2010 World Cup goal in the 87th minute.

This match was over before it even began.

Portugal came flying out of the box.

They made mince meat of the vaunted North Korean “D.”

The Korean keeper Ri Myong-Guk must felt like he was in a shoot gallery.

Portugal takes on Brasil in the final match of Group G.

Portugal should move on.

Ivory Coast goose is cooked.

This is a dirty team.

Drogba and his mates should shot for dirty play and horrible acting.

Thank God Elano didn’t get hurt when the Ivory Coast player decided to do the ankle stomp on him.

Portugal played well but against Brasil Portugal will have a hard time even though Brasil is minus Kaka.

You better watch out for Danny Alves.

Robinho will be loaded for bear as well too.

Brasil has a point to prove.

We will be playing with a chip on our shoulders.

Watch out Portugal for your fakes stars better be ready.

Chile beat Switzerland 1-0.

Spain took care of business against Honduras winning 2-nil.

Chile is top dog with six points.

The Chileans are on to the next round.

Spain and the Swiss are tied for second with three points each.

Switzerland battles Honduras and Spain takes on Chile.

Spain has to win against Chile and hopes that Switzerland either losses or wins by less than two goals.

Brasil, Argentina, Netherlands, and Chile are on to the knockout stage.

The fun is just heating up.

I just love it.

The cheating French are fighting with each other.

Ireland must be laughing themselves silly.

Even with all this chaos the French are still dangerous.

I would love see them get 86th in the Group stage along with the nasty Germans.

Italy the defending World Cup champs may not even make it out of the Group stage too.
