The more things change the more things stay the same. This is deja vu all over again. Ghana defeated the USA 2-1 in extra time.
It took 120 minutes to settle this puppy.
Ghana knocked out the USA of the 2006 World Cup held in Germany.
Yes, we won Group C but the USA came up short when it counted.
Two defensive lapses killed the USA.
Kevin Prince Boateng split the seam in the “D”. He flat out beat a defenseless Tim Howard short post left in the 5th minute.
The USA didn’t quit. We crawled back into the match.
Clint Dempsey took it to the rack. This forced the Ghana defender to foul him.
Up steps the D Man.
Landon Donovan nailed the PK off the right post in the 62nd minute.
Injury time and it was Déjà vu all over again.
Asamoah Gyan beat two American defenders to the ball.
He flipped the shot over Tim Howard’s out stretched hands in the 93rd minute.
The USA is now 0-1-14 in matches when they trailed at half.
These goals were not Tim Howard’s fault.
We played crappy “D” on these two plays that were the turning points of the match.
The USA showed promise but we still have a long way to go in futebol.
I am sad but hey this all part of the game.
Go Brasil.
Uruguay defeated South Korea 2-1.
Luis Suarez hit for the daily double.
Uruguay’s super striker Diego Forlan set up Suarez’s first goal with a great centering pass across the goal crease.
The second goal Suarez dribble to his right. He nailed a curling knuckler that went ker plunk off the right post into the twines.
Uruguay and Ghana will meet in the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
South America’s strong showing in the World Cup surprises the clowns at ESPN however, I am not.
I have been writing about South American futebol for two years.
The pundits used by ESPN are ex-European futebol players. All these guys know is the EPL, Spain, Italy, France, and Germany. They know nothing about South American clubs.
When one thinks about South American futebol only Brasil and Argentina, come to mind. Yet, team like Chile, Uruguay, and Paraguay are flying under the radar.
If you want to get a feel for South American futebol watch the Copa Libertadores. I have been follwing the Copa since 1993.
The teams that win the Copa always give the Champions League titleholder fits. Just ask Manchester United, Barcelona, Liverpool, and Inter Milan.
South American futebol is for real folks.
Brasil has a ring for the thumb.
We are going for a ring for the other hand.
Italy has four titles.
Uruguay has won two World Cup titles.
Argentina has two titles too.
Many of the top futebolers are from South America.
Up next Argentina-Mexico and England-Germany.
Sunday will be great.

Pompey fought the gallant fight but in the end Chelsea’s superior firepower, won the FA Cup in a thrilling 1-0 win.
Chelsea had the most scoring chances but the Blues couldn’t pull the trigger until Didier Drogba’s deadly free kick from twenty yards out was squeezed between Portsmouth keepers David James out stretched hand the right post in the 59th minute.
Prior to Drogba’s deadly strike Pompey had a golden chance to spin the match on its head but Kevin-Prince-Boateng’s PK was stone cold stopped by Blues keeper Petr Cech in the 56th minute.
Wham bam just like that in a span of three minutes the match was twisted on its ear and the Blues stuck a fork in Pompey’s dream of winning the FA Cup.
Portsmouth is broke and given the heave-hoe all in one season, yet this was a glorious run by the foreclosed side.
The money made from reaching the FA Cup might help the bankrupt Pompey.
Frank Lampard had a chance to increase the Blues lead in the 89th minute but Portsmouth keeper David James said “No way Jose” and shut em down.
Way to go garoto.
All in all Chelsea was in complete control of the match from beginning to end.
The Blues achieved the daily double winning the EPL and FA Cup titles.
Trust me when I say this Chelsea is heading down the backside of forty. This means Drogba and the boys are getting older. Their window of opportunity is rapidly closing.
They need to bring in younger players to replace the fading stars.
The “Special One” Jose Mourinho brought Drogba and the rest in but the management has not found replacements for them.
Mourinho is good a winning titles with other peoples talent but his ability to build a championship squad stinks.
This is not Mourinho’s strong suit.
Man U had a down year by their standards but remember the Red Devils lost the fake Ronaldo and few other players. The mighty boys from Old Trafford played a very young squad.
Watch out EPL!
My guys from Arsenal are in the same boat. We were besieged by injuries. Younger guys such as Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott, and Carlos Vela were asked to step in big time to replace RVP and Cesc Fabregas who were hit by the injury bug.
My Gunners will be ready next year to win the title as well.
Flamengo battles Vitoria later today.
Lets hope Rubro-Negro doesn’t stink the joint out on the road in Salvador.
I wouldn’t bet on it.
Mengao is in shambles.

The mighty boys from Old Trafford had a chance to move to the top of the table in the EPL. But no, Man U stunk the joint out on the road in a nil-nil tie with Blackburn.
The Red Devils had at least ten chances to get the full three points.
Dimitar Berbatov was the main culprit. This sorry excuse for a striker missed three point blank shots on goal. Berbatov should join the mason for he is better at making bricks than goals.
This tie may have surely cost Man U a shot at the historic four peat.
You can sum up Man U’s performance in two words- you stink.
Nil-nil ties were the order of the day.
Liverpool had a chance to stay within striking distance of Man City but no the Reds blew it big time at home in Anfield. Liverpool and Fulham tied nil-nil.
Sure big time scorer Fernando Torres was absent but jeez give me a break will someone step to the plate and find the back of net.
Not on this day.
Liverpool dominated play but what good does that do if you can’t hit pay dirt.
You can stick a fork in the Reds chances of returning to the Champions League.
Manchester City took care of business against Birmingham winning 5-1.
Emmanuel Adebayor hit the daily double-43rd and 88th minutes.
Carlos Tevez scored via the PK route in the 43rd minute.
Mate Nedum Onuoha had the twin kill as well too- 40th and 73rd minutes.
Wolves and Stoke City kissed their sister nada-nada.
Manchester City now has a four-point lead over Tottenham in the race for fourth place in the EPL.
Man City has 62 points. Tottenham has 58 with a game in hand. Spurs take on my guys from Arsenal on Wednesday.
We need a huge “W” just like Tottenham does.
Do you believe in miracles?
You are not going to believe this. Send em packing from the EPL Pompey pulled a huge upset 2-0 win over Tottenham in the FA Cup semis.
Portsmouth needed extra time to score twice to send the Spurs packing.
Frederick Piquionne ripped the twines in the 99th minute.
Mate Kevin –Prince Boateng added a PK in the 117th minute to send Pompey to the finals of the FA Cup where they will face Chelsea.
