River Plate is hanging in there. Los Millionaires are in second place in the Nacional B with 55 points. Top dog is Instituto de Cordoba with 59 points. Lurking in third place is Rosario Central with 53 points.

River Plate defeated Huracan 2-0 last Saturday. Los Canallas got by Quilmes 1-0. The Scoundrels need to win this sucker to keep pace with Los Millionaires. Instituto de Cordoba edged Atlanta 1-0 to keep their four-point lead over River Plate and six points over Rosario Central.

La Gloria, River Plate, and Los Canallas all have big matches coming up this weekend.  Instituto de Cordoba and River Plate will battle it out on Saturday. Los Millionaires needs to win this sucker if they want to cut the gap to two points. Rosario Central and Deportivo Merlo match up também. Los Charros is currently in 14^th place. If the Scoundrels can win and River Plate losses Rosario Central will take over 2^nd place.

These are the money matches of the weekend in Nacional B.

Boca Juniors sits atop the leader board with 20 points in the Apertura. Newell’s Old Boys have 20 points as well but Los Xeneizes are a plus nine while La Lepra are a plus seven. Arsenal de Sarandi is third with 18 points. Tigre is fourth with 17 points.

It is all over but the shouting in the Argentinos Clausura. Velez Sarsfield wrapped up the title last week when they beat Huracan 2-0.

This is a done deal for El Fortin.

Velez Sarsfield has won the Clausura the last two out of three years.

El Fortin won in 2009.

In 2010 Velez Sarsfield dropped to ninth place in the table.

The battle will be for second place between Lanus, Godoy Cruz, and Argentinos Juniors.

El Granate has 32 points.

Tomba has 31 points.

Bichos Colorados has 29 points.

Lanus is in the drivers seat. All El Granate has to do is win their final match.

Godoy Cruz needs to win and hope that El Granate either loses or ties.

Argentinos Juniors is a long shot to take over second place.

Too many things have to happen for Bichos Colorado to slip past Velez Sarsfield.

Argentinos Juniors needs to win by thirteen goals and hopes that El Fortin loses by thirteen.

This ain’t gonna happen in this lifetime.

The best Bichos Colorados can hope for is that Godoy loses their final match of the season.

If this happens Argentinos Juniors will capture third place.

Swansea City booked their place in the EPL. The Swans defeated the Reading Choo-choo guys 4-2 at Wembley Stadium.

The hat trick by Swansea City’s Scott Sinclair spelled doom for the Royals.

Sinclair nailed two PK’s plus a laser shot into the back of the net in the 22^nd minute to send the Swans to the Promised Land.

Scott Sinclair turned the tide for Swansea City in two-minute span.

A PK in the 20^th minute and his lay up goal in the 22^nd minute.

The Reading Choo-choo guys made to the First Division for the first time in 2006-07 but were sent packing in after the 2007-08 season.

This is Swansea City’s first trip to the English Futebol first division.

Queens Park Rangers and Norwich City already booked their spots with the big boys by finishing first and second in the English League Championship.

Top dog in the Argentinos Clausura is Velez Sarsfield with 30 points.

El Fortin lost to Tigre 2-1.

Lanus is currently in second place with 29 points.

El Granate defeated Huracan.

Third place belongs to Godoy Cruz with 27 points.

Godoy plays later on Monday.

Boca defeated Newell’s Old Boys 1-0.

Los Xeneizes jumped to seventh place with 25 points.

River Plate and Olimpo tied nil-nil.

Los Millionaires is in eighth place with 24 big ones.

Argentinos Juniors defeated mid table Huracan 2-1 to win their first league title in 25 years.

Juan Mercier scored in the 23^rd minute to give Bichos Colorado the early 1-0 lead. Facundo Coria ripped a header in the 77^th minute to seal the deal Argentinos Juniors.

This title is especially sweet for Bichos Colorado headman Claudio Borghi.

Borghi was teammate of Diego Maradona on Argentina’s 1986 World Cup winning side.

He also played on Argentinos Juniors 1986 title side.

Now Claudio Borghi has now come full circle. He has now won a title as a player and now as a coach for Bichos Colorado.

Way to go garoto.

Estudiantes whipped Colon 4-1.

Argentinos Juniors won the Clausura with 41 points. Estudiantes finished second with 40 points.

River Plate lost to Tigre 5-1.

Los Millonarios have had one of the worst records over the last two years now they face getting the heave-hoe from the top division.

River Plate needs to have a kick ass season in the Apertura if not is voce vai. Los Millonarios is one of only three clubs that has never been sent down.

Boca Juniors and Independiente are the two that have never been given the heave-hoe.

Boca Juniors had their lunch handed to them by Banfield 3-0.

Los Xeneizos finished the year in 16^th place with 20 points. If Boca continues at this pace, they will face the heave-hoe zone shortly too.

It is really sad to see such two storied clubs Boca Juniors and River Plate stinking the joint out.

Yet at the same time I am kinda happy Boca get what is coming to them. For many years the refs have given Los Xeneizos all kinds of breaks even to the extent of giving them wins they should have never had.

This is sad but true.

The race for the Clausura title is heating up. There is one week left in the season. For many years, Argentinos Juniors stunk the joint out but now they are top dog with 38 points.

Bichos Colorados defeated Independiente 4-3 on Sunday.

Argentinos Juniors scored the match winner in the dying moments of the match.

Matias Caruzzo nailed a close range header to propel Bichos Colorados into first place.

Second place Estudiantes and bottom feeder Rosario Central tied nil-nil. This tie could cost Los Pincharratas the Clausura title. Estudiantes was in first place prior to play on Sunday May 9^th.

Los Pincharratas has 37 points.

Godoy Cruz is in third place with 34 points.

River Plate ripped the twines in a 3-0 win over Racing.

Los Millonarios are in 12^th place with 22 points.

Boca Juniors lost to Huracan 2-1.

I bet the Los Xeneizos can’t wait until the Clausura is over.

Boca is currently in 15^th place.

If Argentinos Juniors can beat Huracan on Sunday May 16^th, the title is theirs.

If Bichos Colorados ties and Estudiantes losses the title is Argentinos Juniors, however if Estudiantes wins and Bichos Colorados losses or ties Los Pincharratas is the champ.

Oh yes, this is fun in the sun.

It all comes down to the last week of the season.

Boca Juniors reverted to their horrible ways. Los Xeneizes had their heads handed to them by Tigre 3-0.

Carlos Luna hit for the hat trick. He ripped the twines in the 10^th, 43^rd, and 77^th minute.

Boca is really struggling in the Clausura.

With the loss, Los Xeneizes dropped to 17^th place.

Boca has eight points in nine matches.

This stinks big time folks.

River Plate shut out Huracan 2-0.

Huracan’s Ezequiel Nicholas Filippetto made a dumb-dumb play. He fired the ball into his own net in the 2^nd minute to give River Plate a 1-0 lead.

Gustavo Canales added the insurance goal in the 77^th minute.

River Plate has thee wins, three draws, and three losses for 12 points.

Los Millonarios is now in 11^th place.

Milton Caraglio scored the match winner in the 88^th minute to lift Rosario past San Lorenzo 1-0.

Argentinos Juniors Nicolas Pavlovich was camped near the back post. He slipped the ball past the keeper in the 77^th minute.

Racing’s Claudio Yacob missed a PK in the 86^th minute.

Argentinos Juniors keeper Luis Ojeda stone cold stopped him.

This save sent Racing to a 1-0 defeat at the hands Argentinos Juniors.

Independiente defeated Chacarita 1-0. Godoy Cruz doubled up Atletico Tucuman 2-1.

The top of the Clausura looks like this.

Independiente is top dog with 20 points. Godoy is second with 18 points. Banfield and Velez Sarsfield are tied for third place with 15 points each.

Let’s turn our attention to the second leg of the Champions League first round knockout stage.

Internazionale Sameul Eto’o scored the match winner in the 77^th minute to beat Chelsea 1-0.

Samuel Eto’o took it straight to the rack and beat the keeper Ross Turnbull. He beat Turnbull one on one. 

A wicked pass set up this goal from Wesley Sneijder.

It is on to the next round for Jose Mourinho’s side.

When Jose Mourinho was the Blues manager, he never lost a home league game.

Revenge is sweet.

Inter is on to the next round while the Blues are outta here.

CSKA Moscow upset Sevilla 2-1.

CSKA is on to the next round as well.

Aston Villa picked up a huge 2-1 win over Wigan. The difference in the match happened in the 25^th minute.

Wigan’s James McCarthy fired the ball into his own net.

The Latics McCarthy misplayed a no pressure ball and shanked this baby into the back of his own net.

Choke City baby.

Wigan’s Gary Caldwell evened this baby up two minutes later (27^th minute) however Villa’s James Milner hit the winner 63^rd minute.

The win moves Aston Villa into seventh place with 49 points in 28 games.

The race for the final Champions League spot looks like this.

Tottenham has 52 points in 28 matches. Liverpool is in fifth place with 51 points in 30 games. City is in sixth place 50 points in 28 matches.
