Author: Both Manchester clubs struggled big time in their first round matches in the Europa League. City gave up a goal in the 51st minute to lose to Sporting Lisbon 1-0.
Xandao cheeky back heel beat the Citizens keeper Joe Hart dead to rights. City played like crap. However the Citizens had a chance to get the equalizer in the final moments.
Man U on the other hand stunk the joint in a 3-2 loss to Atletic Bilbao at Old Trafford. The Rooney man scored twice but this was not enough. Sir Alex and the boys were down right bad against the Spanish side.
Los Leones completely outplayed Man U from start to finish. This is not your typical Sir Alex side. The Red Devils hearts are not into playing in the Europa League. Their play so far has confirmed this. The boys lost at home to Ajax 2-1 in the second leg and now to Atletic Bilbao 3-2 prove my point that Man U would rather go home and concentrate on the EPL.
Sir Alex and the boys only have one win at home in their last five matches in Champions League and Europa League play.
Man U didn’t play their best defenders. Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, and Michael Carrick didn’t start. Only Carrick saw action when he came in for Chris Smalling in the 55th minute.
Smalling had to come out when he re injured his head wound suffered in England’s international friendly against the Netherlands last week.
My instincts guided by experience reveals that Man U and City would be bettered served if they did not participate in the Europe League after they bombed out in the Champions League group play.
The second leg matches will be played next week.
In Copa Libertadores play Santos defeated Internacional 3-1.
Fluminense defeated Argentina giant Boca Juniors 2-1 at Los Xeneizes house.
Boca has one tie and one loss in Group Four play.
Corinthians shut out Nacional 2-0.
So far in Group play the Brasileiros sides are playing very well but this can change on a dime.
Fluminense is top dog in Group Four.
Santos sits in second place in Group One.
Vasco is in second place in Group Five.
Peixe is in second place in Group Six.
My guys from Mengao battle Emelec late on Thursday.
Flamengo has one tie and sits in third place in Group Two.
Both Vanger Love and Ronaldinho Gaucho are going to have to score and hope that our crappy “D” will not let us down. Felipe can be a clown in goal at times.
UOL- O Flamengo sofreu esta semana com problemas de cabeça e coração. O goleiro Felipe sofreu pancada e foi parar no hospital. Renato Abreu está afastado com problemas cardíacos. E a lista de preocupações não acaba por aí. Joel Santana, então, terá que recorrer a um time remendado para a partida contra o Emelec-QUE às 19h30 desta quinta-feira, no Engenhão. Do outro lado, pelo menos, o rubro-negro encontrará um cenário animador: o adversário nunca venceu equipes brasileiras na Copa Libertadores.
Joel Santana encontra problemas para escalar o Flamengo desde o gol. Felipe levou uma pancada na cabeça na vitória sobre o Duque de Caxias e deixou a partida direto para o hospital. Mengao once again almost blew it against a second tier futebol club. Flamengo scored first on a brilliant goal by Vanger Love in the 11th minute. Vanger missed the one on one with the keeper but he tapped in the miss.
Dumbo Rubro-Negro gave up a goal in the 59th minute to Duque de Caxias Tiago Rodriquez. The long-range bomb was missed played by Felipe. This stupidity almost cost us big time but up stepped Ronaldinho Gaucho to score the match winner in the 86th minute. Gaucho rammed home the PK to save the day.
This goal by Ronaldinho Gaucho cost Mengao 833 thousand dollars.
UOL- O gol de Ronaldinho Gaúcho na partida do último domingo, contra o Duque de Caxias, garantiu a vitória do Flamengo pela segunda rodada da Taça Rio, mas não evitou uma nova série de cobranças ao jogador por parte da torcida. Com um salário de R$ 1,250 milhão e um altíssimo custo de aproximadamente R$ 833 mil por cada vez que balança as redes em 2012, o craque não consegue escapar dos seguidos questionamentos pelo rendimento abaixo do esperado.

UOL -Sem quatro titulares, o Flamengo apostava em Ronaldinho Gaúcho para vencer o Duque de Caxias e encerrar o jejum que já durava dois jogos. Mesmo passando boa parte do jogo “sumido” em campo, o camisa 10 marcou o segundo gol e garantiu o triunfo rubro-negro por 2 a 1, neste domingo, em Macaé, pela segunda rodada da Taça Rio. O atacante Vagner Love abriu o placar para o time da Gávea. Rodrigues descontou para a equipe da Baixada Fluminense em falha do goleiro reserva Paulo Victor – substituto de Felipe após o titular desmaiar e sair de campo de ambulância.
Botafogo is top dog with six points. Macaé is second with six but Fogao is a plus four while Macaé is a plus two.
Resende is third with four points and my guys Flamengo are four with three points.
Mengao takes on Nova Iguacu on Saturday in third round play in the Taça Rio.
Flamengo battles Emelec Thursday at our house in Rio de Janeiro in the Copa Libertadores Group play.

Boo-Mengao has now dropped two matches in a row. The guys are really stinking the joint out. Vanger Love scored first but Flamengo gave up two goals and lost to Boavista 2-1.
This season is starting out really badly. If we continue to play this way Rubro-Negro will be whale dung when the real season begins in late May-The Serie A.
A estreia do Flamengo na Taça Rio foi marcada por sequência de lances inusitados. Os comandados de Joel Santana abriram o placar no início do jogo e davam sinais de que teriam vida tranquila na partida desta quarta-feira. No entanto, o Boavista complicou o jogo e venceu, de virada, por 2 a 1, com gol polêmico e ainda teve que superar a ausência do goleiro por 6min para confirmar a vitória sobre os rubro-negros.
Both sides had players given the heave-hoe but this didn’t this didn’t stop Mengao from giving up a PK and a late goal to a second division club Boavista.

The international friendly is in season again. These stupid matches do more harm than good. Players who play in these matches wind up hurt all the time and many times players such as Fernando Torres, Kaka, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and the like are ruined forever.
Thank God Rooney was able come back. This is do to Sir Alex Ferguson. Rio Ferdinand on the other hand is dead meat. Torres is on the way to the bone heap.
With that said Brasil took on Bosnia Herzegovina. My guys won 2-1. Sure this is good but my God what the hell happened to Brasileiros futebol. The guys needed an own goal by Bosnia Herzegovina in the 90th minute to pull out the win.
Marcelo scored in the 4th minute for Brasil.
Bosnia Herzegovina found the equalizer in the 13th minute.
Vedad Salihovic ripped the twines.
This is not good garoto.
If the guys continue to play like this we’ll get kicked out in the group stage of the World Cup. Imagine the hell that will break loose if this happens.

Do you want to talk about crazy insanity on the pitch then the Carling Cup final is for you. Liverpool should have killed League Championship side Cardiff City. Except no one told the Welsh side.
The Bluebirds scored first in the 19th minute. Joe Mason ripped the twines. Liverpool leveled this sucker up at one all in the 60th minute. Martin Skrtel found the back of the net.
The Reds took the lead in extra time. Dirt Kuyt ripped the twines in the 108th minute. It sure looked like Liverpool would win but hold your horses for Cardiff City equalized in the 118th minute on a brilliant put back by Ben Turner. This score came off a wild and crazy corner kick. It was pinball machine time. Dirt Kuyt failed to clear the rock.
Buda Bing buda boom on to PK shootout time.
Both Liverpool and the Bluebirds missed the first two shots in the PK death match.
It all came down to this. Cardiff City trailed 3-2. It was make or break time. Nail it and it’s live for another round. Miss and Liverpool wins. The man in the hot seat is the cousin of Steven Gerrard Anthony Gerrard. It’s shanked wide left. The Reds win.
Heartbreak city for the Bluebirds. Cardiff was trying to become the first Welsh club to win a title since 1922.
Steven Gerrard said this about the choke collar. “It’s always cruel when it comes to penalties, but there has to be a loser.
“It was always going to be that one of us was sad and one celebrating. I’ve got mixed emotions. Obviously I’m delighted to win the cup for our supporters, but I feel for Anthony and Cardiff.
“It doesn’t matter what I say to him – he’s going to be down. I’ll be there for him and all the family will be behind him.”
Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay was down right proud of his guys.
“In extra time the way we came back… I’m so proud of them, so very, very proud of them,” he said. “For most of them it’s the first time they’ve been anywhere near something like this. They are very young. The emotions are running through them.
“You’ve got two teams who have put everything into the game today and I’m very proud of my team.”
In the Taça Guanabara Fluminense defeated Vasco 3-1. Po-de Arroz won their first Rio title since 1993.
UOL- Por ironia, o Vasco foi o “responsável” pela classificação do Fluminense para as semifinais da Taça Guanabara. Na última rodada do torneio, o time tricolor precisava vencer o Bangu e torcer para o rival conquistar um triunfo sobre o Boavista. Foi essa combinação de resultados que aconteceu. O Flu passou de fase, eliminou o Botafogo nas penalidades e bateu o Vasco na final.
Fred led Fluminense with the daily double. Mate Deco added the other goal for Po-de Arroz.
This sucker was over by the 55th minute. Fluminense jumped out to a 3-0 nil lead. Gigante de Colina added a cosmetic goal in the 82nd minute by Eduardo Costa.

My guys from found a different way to lose. Vanger Love hit pay dirt first in the 2nd minute then boo-Mengao gave up the equalizer in the 15th minute. Alecsandro gave Vasco the big Mo they needed.
Vanger Love fired a long-range bomb from just outside the top of the box.
O jogo mal começou e o Flamengo saiu em vantagem. Aos 2, Vagner Love recebeu bola na entrada da área e aproveitou o fato de Ronaldinho confundir a zaga vascaína para driblar Fagner e abrir o placar. O golaço empolgou os rubro-negros, que partiram com tudo para o ataque. Inicialmente dominado, o Vasco buscava se reorganizar e trabalhar a posse de bola.
The reason for the Vasco win was Diego Souza.
Os times passaram a segurar mais a bola e atacar apenas “na boa”. Com as substituições feitas, Diego Souza foi o responsável por levar o Vasco à final da Taça Guanabara. Aos 32, Kim cruzou e Fagner apareceu pelo meio para cabecear. Felipe espalmou para o lado e Diego Souza aproveitou o rebote para virar o jogo e iniciar a festa vascaína na Quarta-Feira de Cinzas.

This was Vasco’s first win over Mengao in ten tries.

Once again the boys found the answer to screw up a perfectly good unbeaten streak against Vasco.
Mengao had their chances to win this sucker but once again the guys couldn’t push the rock past the goal line.
Deivid had a golden opportunity but missed a point blank shot.
O projeto inicial do Flamengo para 2012 já não é mais o mesmo. Apesar da disputa da Taça Libertadores da América, o rubro-negro reconhece que o Campeonato Carioca não pode ser deixado de lado. Após um Carnaval de muita folia entre os jogadores, um gol incrível perdido por Deivid e uma eliminação para o maior rival na semifinal do primeiro turno do Estadual, o time da Gávea mudou o foco e sabe que a disputa da Taça Rio virou prioridade.

Mengao has a hot date with Vasco in the semifinals of Taça Guanabara Wednesday night. The winner of this puppy will advance to the finals to take on the winner of the Botafogo-Fluminense winner.
Flamengo’s problem has been scoring. The “D” is pretty good but the attack led by Ronaldinho Gaucho and company has been offensive at best. Our scoring down right sucks so the guys are going to have to put the ball into the back of the net.
UOL wrote a story stating that since 2010 Gigante de Colina hasn’t beaten my guys. Rubro-Negro has three wins and five ties.
Vasco e Flamengo terão que quebrar tabus se quiserem chegar à final da Taça Guanabara. O cruzmaltino está há oito jogos sem vencer o maior rival, sendo a última vitória março de 2009, pela Taça Rio. O rubro-negro, por sua vez, espera ainda por uma grande atuação de sua maior estrela em um clássico regional, já que Ronaldinho Gaúcho ainda não marcou contra os times grandes do Rio de Janeiro.
Ronaldinho Gaucho has played in ten of these Clássicos. Flamengo has not lost in any of them. The sides involved are Botafogo, Fluminense, and Vasco. In two of them Rubro-Negro won in a PK shootout.
Pelo outro lado do clássico, o Flamengo vive com a frustração de sua maior estrela não ter feito gol em confrontos regionais. Ronaldinho Gaúcho jogou, até o momento, 10 clássicos, mas, embora ainda não tenha estufado as redes adversárias, tem um bom retrospecto e defenderá uma invencibilidade nestas partidas. My guys from Mengao finally put it together offensively. Flamengo beat Resende 3-1 to advance to the semifinals Taça Guanabara.
This sucker was a close call.
My guys from boo-Mengao fell behind 1-0 before scoring three straight goals to pull out the “W”.
UOL-“No intervalo, o técnico Joel Santana sacou Luiz Antônio, que não fez um bom primeiro tempo, e colocou o argentino Bottinelli. A segunda etapa começou como a primeira, com o Resende pressionando o rubro-negro. O gol da equipe do interior não demorou para sair, livre de marcação, Marcelo Régis cabeceou para o fundo da rede. Resende 1 x 0 Flamengo.”
This was one of those win or go home.
Flamengo não voce vai.
Finally Ronaldinho Gaucho found the back of the net. Vanger Love and Negueba scored as well.

Globo Esporte- Não é o melhor dos sambas. Não é a mais afinada das baterias. Mas o Flamengo pelo menos garantiu um pouco de paz no carnaval ao assegurar presença no desfile das campeãs da Taça Guanabara. Com virada de 3 a 1 sobre o Resende, neste sábado, em Volta Redonda, o time de Joel Santana avançou como segundo colocado para as semifinais do primeiro turno do Campeonato Carioca. Enfrentará o Vasco na quarta-feira, às 22h (de Brasília), no Engenhão.

Both Rubro-Negro and Botafogo are tied on points with 15 but Fogao is a plus 13 compared with my guys plus nine.
Botafogo defeated Macaé 3-0 earlier in the day. Flamengo and Vasco will go to war on Wednesday in the semifinal of the Taça Guanabara.
Fogao and Fluminense will take to the pitch on Thursday in the other semifinal.

Mengao was very fortunate was to come away with a one all tie with Argentinos side Lanus in Group play in the Copa Libertadores.
Flamengo scored first when Leo Moura nailed a perfect shot past the keeper in the 45th minute (plus one). El Granate pressed the attack until the Argentinean side tumbler hit the right combination in the 74th minute. A poor clearing by Rubro-Negro set up the goal. This gave Lanus the attack deep in the Flamengo end of the pitch. Buda bing buda boom Cesar Carranza point blank shot beat the keeper Felipe short shot shelf right.
Our boo Mengao spent most of the time on the back heel. We couldn’t string together much of an attack.
Flamengo players like Ronaldinho Gaucho and Deivid spend too much time trying to dribble through three defenders instead of passing the rock off to the wings to create spacing problems for the “D” to allow more openings to score. One Lanus player guarded three Rubro-Negro players.
Mengao is slow and doesn’t have crispness to their attack. If Flamengo played in Europe Rubro-Negro couldn’t compete at the D-3 level.
Flamengo played bad futebol. For their talent they can’t play futebol.

Finally the guys broke the scoring code. After being shutout in our last three Carioca matches Flamengo shut out Nova Iguacu 2-0. Goals by Renato and Deivid broke the scoring drought for the Boo Mengao’s.
The win gives us 12 points. Rubro-Negro is still in third place. Mengao will take Resende on Saturday. The winner will determine who will go to the semifinals of the Guanabara Cup.
Botafogo battles with Macaé.
UOL-Com o resultado, o Flamengo chega a 12 pontos, mas se mantém na terceira posição, já que o Resende também triunfou sobre o Madureira. As duas equipes decidirão a vaga em um confronto direto na última rodada da Taça Guanabara.
Com a entrada de Vagner Love na vaga de Bottinelli, Ronaldinho Gaúcho e Deivid tiveram que desempenhar uma função um pouco mais recuada, com Renato Abreu flutuando pelo meio chegando mais ao ataque, enquanto Luiz Antônio e Willians ficavam mais na contenção das subidas do Nova Iguaçu.
