There are some huge encounters happening on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, second place Fluminense battles Atletico-PR at Maracanã.

Flu needs to win this baby to keep pace with top dog Corinthians.

Sao Paulo is on a six match winless streak. Tricolor needs a break into the “W” column against Ceara on Saturday.

Vovo is in third place.

This will be tough one for Sao Paulo.

Mengao battles Vasco at Maracanã on Sunday.

This derby will be a blood bath.

Vasco is in 13^th place while Rubro-Negro is in 7^th place.

We need to win this baby.

Flamengo has been struggling as of late.

We have one win, one loss, and one tie.

Rubro-Negro struggles mightily at Maracanã.

On the murder Bruno front, Mengao will break the contract. Flamengo will owe Bruno some big bucks.

Marcelo Lomba is doing a pretty good job in goal for us.

We still stink on “D”.

Mengao needs to step up their offense.

Vinicius Pacheco, Petkovic, Kleberson, and Diego Mauricio need to step up to the plate big time and knock it outta the park.

Flamengo is a world of hurt.

If this slide continues will be finish near the butt end of the table.

We have played eleven matches in the Campeonato.

Flamengo is in seventh place with 16 points.

Mengao has four wins, three losses, and four draws.

Rubro-Negro has a plus two in goal difference.

Avai and Cruzeiro both have 16 points and the same goal difference as Mengao a plus two.

Leao de Ilha is in fifth place because they have scored 17 goals. Cruzeiro has scored 11 goals so Raposa Celeste is in sixth place.

Flamengo has scored 10 goals.

We don’t have a very good offense nor is our “D” worth a damn.

Lomba has only given up two goals in the three matches he has played since Bruno was sent to the hoosegow.

He is not the problem. Marcelo Lomba was hung out to dry by his cappy defensive mates.

We need a huge lift.

Corinthians is now top dog with 22 points. Timao blasted Guarani 3-1.

Fluminense and Botafogo tied one in the all-important Rio de Janeiro derby.

This tie cost Flu the top spot in the Campeonato.

Po-de arroz has 23 points.

Third place belongs to Ceara with 20 bad boys.

Vovo and Palmeiras tied one all.

Vasco has moved outta the drop zone.

Gigante de Colina is in the 14^th spot with 13 points.

Botafogo is now in the heave-hoe zone.

Fogao is in 17^th place with 12 points.

Atletico-GO is the bottom feeder with seven points.

The Flamengo guys won’t play until Sunday August 1^st  in a huge derby match against Vasco.

This will be a ton of fun.

Mengao had a great chance to move up the table but no Flamengo reverted to their perfect old form. They stunk the joint out in 1-0 loss to Internacional in Porto Alegre.

I mean it looked like Rubro-Negro would draw first blood in the opening moments but in a matter of moments, Colorado counter attacked.

Internacional took off like a bat outta hell and scored on wicked long-range salvo from Taison in the 4^th minute.

Taison fired a blast that went clang off the cross bar down into the back of the net.

Lomba never had a prayer to stop this missile.

Globo Esporte-palavra sonora, superlativa, nascida para ser sinônimo daquilo que Taison fez aos quatro minutos do primeiro tempo no Beira-Rio. Foi uma pancada seca, precisa, quase lá da intermediária. A bola viajou sem escalas até o ângulo, aquele espaço tão amaldiçoado pelos goleiros. Marcelo Lomba voou porque está escrito na carteira de trabalho dele que ele tem que voar. Inútil. Nem cinco Lombas emendados um no outro defenderiam o chute. Golaço.

This tally sent Mengao on their heels.

We never recovered.

Flamengo tried to mount a counter attack but Internacional kept us at bay throughout the entire match.

Rogeiro Lourenço made some changes in the second half but Mengao played like it was farting in the wind.

Mengao lost steam. Stick a fork in Flamengo for they were surely done.

Our season may be down too.

Mengao played without heart.

We were just going thru the motions.

No energy or urgency.

This goes back to headman Rogerio Lourenço who in my mind is not a good coach.

Flamengo should have never fired Andrade.

Prez Patricia Amorim has taken a very good club and ruined it.

Thank you Patricia for killing our season.

Mengao will hang around but in the end we will finish mid table.

When players like Diego Mauricio, Vinicius Pacheco, Marcelo Lomba, and Ronaldo Angelim get a full years experience under their belt watch out Campeonato Mengao will kick butt.

If Rubro-Negro can sign Ronaldinho Gaucho, this might give us the push we need to challenge for the title.

Don’t hold your breath.

The scary part is this Internacional used their second squad.

Colorado has a hot date mid week date with Sao Paulo in the Copa Libertadores semifinals.

Mengao has a huge match with Internacional on Sunday in Porto Alegre. Both Flamengo and Colorado both have 16 points but Internacional is in fourth place by having five wins compared with Rubro-Negro’s four wins.

I am not saying this is a must win situation however Flamengo must play a lot better if they want to compete for the title.

This is a huge derby for both sides.

Fogao is one step above the drop zone in 16^th place.

Six points separate the top six clubs.

Maximum points are a premium for Flamengo, Internacional, Timao, and Flu.

Bottom feeders Gremio and Atletico-PR need to get the W.

Avai had a real chance to move up the table. Instead, Leao da Ilha tied Atletico-Mg nil-nil.

Galo was down two men and yet they hung on for the tie.

This was a huge save for Atletico-MG.

Galo should have lost big time but Avai came up firing blanks.

Vasco put it all together. Gigante de Colina blasted Atletico-GO 2-0.

Nilton hit for the daily double for Vasco.

He scored in the 33^rd minute on a wicked right-angled shot that ripped the twines.

Nilton scored again in the 53rd minute when mate Fumagalli penetrated the box. Fumagalli hit Nilton with a perfect pass.

Nilton ripped the twines.

Game, set, and match to Vasco.

This was a huge win for Gigante de Colina.

The win moves Vasco to 12^th place in the table.

Gigante de Colina has 13 points.

Gremio Prudente and Vitoria tied nil-nil.

Sunday we have some huge matches taking place.

Fluminense jumped into first place of the campeonato. Flu jumped all over Cruzeiro 1-0.

Corinthians lost to Atletico-GO 3-1.

Po-de-arroz has 22 points while Timao has 21 points.

Ceara and Guarani tied one all.

Ceara reminds in third place with 19 points.

Internacional is now in fourth place with 15 points.

Colorado beat Atletico-MG 2-1.

After Mengao tied Avai one all Flamengo dropped to fifth spot with 15 points.

Both sides are tied with a plus three-goal difference but Internacional has five wins compared with four for Rubro-Negro.

Sao Paulo is now in 13^th place with 12 points.

Vasco is still entrenched in the drop zone after a one all tie with Gremio.

Gigante de Colina is in 18^th place 10 points.

Gremio and Atletico-PR have 10 points as well but Furacão a step above the drop zone in 16^th place.

We have some huge matches on Saturday and Sunday.

Mengao had a golden opportunity to move up the table but no the boo-Flamengo stunk the joint out in a one all tie with Avai.

Rubro-Negro scored first.

Youngster Diego Mauricio received a great pass from mate Leo Moura.

Diego popped the ball between the keeper’s outstretched hands and the left post to make it 1-0 Mengao in the 10^th minute.

Lion Island didn’t quit.

Avai hit the equalizer in the 73^rd minute. Gabriel nailed a long-range bomb off the free kick to tie this sucker up.

The Mengao “D” fell asleep.

The wall wasn’t set up to stop the direct free kick.

Whamo Bamo right into the back of the net.

Lomba never had a chance.

Marcelo Lomba didn’t set his defense properly this allowed Gabriel to beat Lomba to the left post.

This tie cost Flamengo. Mengao dropped out of the fourth spot.

Rubro-Negro is now in fifth place.

Internacional moved into the fourth spot with a 2-1 win over Atletico-MG.

Mengao had most of the possession but nothing to show for it.

A defensive lapse killed us.

It could have been worse.

A loss.

I am not a happy Flamenguista.

UOL reported the home crowd-Maracanã showered Mengao with boos after the match.

What changed the match in Lion Island’s favor were the substitutions made by headman Antonio Lopez.

Globo Esporte put this way- Avaí fez duas alterações no intervalo (Marcos e Davi nos lugares de Diogo Orlando e Robinho, respectivamente) e voltou melhor, imprensando os mandantes no campo de defesa. Aos 11, Léo Moura escorregou, Eltinho aproveitou na ponta esquerda e bateu cruzado. Marcelo Lomba desviou levemente, Roberto pegou a sobra, mas errou o alvo, acertando a rede pelo lado de fora.

Mengao was tired in the second half and thus Rogerio Lourenco didn’t make the nesscecary changes and couple that with Vinicus Pacehco was given a yellow card that direct left to the goal by Avai.

Petkovic cansou, e o Flamengo travou. As jogadas de ataque rarearam, e a defesa passou a recorrer aos chutões. O técnico Rogério Lourenço ainda dificultou mais a situação quando trocou Vinícius Pacheco por Camacho.

The race is on.

Sao Paulo has almost dropped outta sight.

Tricolor is buried in 13^th place.

Vasco is still in the danger zone.

It is still very early in the season to ring up the white flag however; nine matches into the season there are some trends.

Timao started out very strong last year but by the end of the 2009 season Corinthians wound up in tenth place.

This year will be different for Timao.

Corinthians is strong this year.

Timao has more pieces in place and this will make them very dangerous.

All one has to do is look at the results.

Six wins, three draws, and zero losses.

Flamengo seems to have found a diamond in the rough with keeper Marcelo Lomba. Lomba has been playing lights since the murder Bruno was sent to prison.

The loss of Bruno, the drug addict Adriano, and Love may have motivated Petkovic and the rest to show us how good they can be.

Mengao has controlled the two last to matches.

Flamengo is now dictating the tempo and flow of the match thus forcing opponents to play our style of play.

This is upbeat and attacking.

Rubro-Negro needs another striker.
