A funny thing happened on the way to Barcelona. Our guys from Arsenal were missing their key players. It was a slaughter. Barca handed us our lunch 4-1.
What did you expect miracles.
The Gunners were without Fabregas, Alex Song, and Andrea Arshavin.
Jeez, this is like sending the lamb out to fight the wolves armed with a butter knife.
We never had a chance.
This is similar to a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.
Lionel Messi hit for the quadruple.
My grandmother could have done that against an injury depleted squad.
She’s been dead since 1976.
Messi is good but lets see how he would have done against our best.
Nicholas Bendtner scored Arsenal’s lone tally in the 18th minute.
This was good but it went downhill from there.
Injuries are killing us.
Enough said on this subject.
In the Clausura Boca Juniors is a race to see how fast they can stink the joint out. Boca gave up a late goal to Rosario Central and wound up losing 2-1.
River Plate lost to Lanus 1-0.
Both River and Boca stink to high heaven.
Godoy Cruz shut out Velez Sarsfield 2-0.
Boca is hovering near the bottom of the table.
Boca is in 18th place with 11 points.
Rosario Central is in 19th with 11 points as well however; Boca is a minus six while Rosario Central is a minus seven.
River Plate is in 16th place with 12 points.
Independiente sits atop the table with 27 points. Godoy Cruz is in second place with 24 points. Argentinos Juniors is third with 22 points.
Now the teams that have stunk the joint like Argentinos Juniors and Godoy are flying high while top clubs Boca and River are bottom feeders.
You gotta love it.

It is only two months into the 2010 futebol campaign for Sao Paulo. Tricolor has lots of problems and if they continue to play this way Sao Paulo will indeed have a very long year.
Rogerio Ceni recorded first blood for Sao Paulo. He nailed a screamer into the wall. Bing bam boom the shot comes flying off the wall into the back of the net. Once Caldas keeper Luis Martinez never had a chance to stop this sucker.
This made it 1-0 for Sao Paulo in the 33rd minute.
With this goal, Ceni becomes Sao Paulo’s all time leading scorer with eleven goals in the Copa Libertadores.
Then the wheels fell off the wagon for Sao Paulo.
Once Caldas ratcheted up the pressure.
Once Caldas tied this baby up in the 49th minute. Uribe flat out beat Tricolor defender Xandao. Wham bam boom, back of the net for Uribe and we are even at one all.
Once Caldas took the lead when Moreno ran rings around the Sao Paulo “D”. He ripped the twines in the 71st minute to give Once Caldas a 2-1 lead.
This was all she wrote.
Stick a fork in Sao Paulo for they are surely done.
Once Caldas has six points after two matches. Sao Paulo has three points.
For the past few weeks, Sao Paulo has been playing horrible futebol. Sure, Tricolor is in second placed in Group Two but Sao Paulo has dropped two straight matches.
Sao Paulo has lost to Portuguesa, Palmeiras, and Santos in the Campeonato Paulista.
Tricolor is currently in sixth place with 17 points. Tricolor trails Torneo Paulista leader Santos by eight points.
Lets shift gears for a moment. We have two huge matches on Saturday in the EPL.
The biggie is Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. City is coming off a hard loss to Stoke City in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The Blues lost to Inter 2-1. This was a hard fought tangle between the Blues and Inter in the first stage of the Champions League knockout round.
Both goals given up by Chelsea were bitter pills to swallow for the Blues. Jose Mourinho Inter’s headman is the former Blues boss who took them to EPL glory.
Will this disappointment bite Chelsea in the butt?
We will find out.
The Blues are unbeaten at home and have only been scored on eight times by the opposition at Stamford Bridge.
Goals will hard to come by for City.
Manchester City will have Carlos Tevez. This should provide an offensive spark for City.
The Blues will be without Petr Cech, torn calf muscle, and Ashley Cole, broken ankle.
I can’t wait to see who dictates the match.
Will it be Tevez or Drogba?
You can sure bet there will be a ton of fireworks on the pitch with these two very intense players battling it out.
We have a huge match with Stoke City at Britannia Stadium on Saturday. The Gunners will have the services of Eduardo available however; we will be without Gallas, Diaby, and Arshavin. This could hurt us deeply if we are not careful.
Fabregas and the guys need to come through big time.
Road wins are a premium in the EPL.
We need to win this baby.
Three points are a must.
When the dust finally settles on Saturday we will have a clearer picture of how the race shaped up for the title run.
Man U has already won.
The pressure is squarely on Chelsea and Arsenal to keep up pace.
All we need is for Chelsea to have a brain fart and lose at home and we’re in like Flynn.
De Futebol
We have some huge fixtures on Saturday and Sunday in the EPL. Manchester United and Everton battle each other in Everton’s house Elwood Park.
The Red Devils are a scant one point behind league leaders Chelsea. Rooney and the guys need to come out breathing fire. In Man U’s last five road games, they have two wins, two draws, and one loss.
Man U has struggled on the road. The Red Devils are coming off a road tie with Aston Villa. This road match will be a key test to see if the Red Devils can become the first EPL team to get a four peat.
Rooney, Berbatov, and Anderson need to attack and create a ton of scoring chances. Rio Ferdinand and Nani will not play due to suspensions.
Without Rio and Nani Man U could pull a Keystone Cops routine on the defensive end of the pitch
With Giggs out due to a broken forearm this will hurt Man U a lot. How much? This depends on Berbatov.
The Toffees will be missing one of their key players too. Midfielder Tim Cahill will be out at least three weeks with a pulled calf muscle.
We have a huge match against Sunderland at Emirates on Saturday. Let’s hope we put the fiasco of what happened in Portugal behind us.
I hope someone slapped Fabianski upside the head for his stupid and dumb play in net against Porto on Wednesday.
This bum Fabianski needs to wake up and make sure he doesn’t play stupid in goal if Arsenal is forced to use this clown in goal if Almunia is not ready to go.
Both Diaby and Gallas will be out. This is going to kill us but I am sure the return of Alex Song will help.
God please don’t let us pull another Rocky Horror Picture Show at home.
The Gunners need to take care of business at home.
Arsenal needs to take names and kick butt.
Fabregas and the guys need to torch the twines.
Chelsea has a road trip to Wolverhampton. Chelsea has a habit of losing on the road. The Blues are coming off a huge road loss to Everton. Wolves are not that good. In plain English, they stink big time.
Let’s hope the Blues have a brain fart and lose big time.
Over the past few weeks, the big boys have stubbed their toes big time on the road.
The EPL winner will have the best road record.
Chelsea is 6-3-4 on the road. Man U is 7-2-4. Arsenal is 6-3-4.
Last year Chelsea, Man U, and Arsenal had a combined nine total road losses. Right now, they have a combined twelve losses with 12 matches left in the season.
They key is hold serve at home and win at least 55 to 60% of your road matches.
When the dust settles the EPL title race will come more into focus.
De Futebol
What a way to start off the match between Arsenal and Porto. Disaster right from the outset almost killed us.
Give me a heart attack why don’t you Arsenal.
Porto drew first blood in one of the dumbest plays I have ever seen. Gunners keeper Lukasz Fabianski should be shot and quartered for giving up such a cheap goal. Porto sniper Varala fired one of the easiest balls to defend. Jeez, my grandmother could have stopped that shot. She has been dead since 1976.
No, Fabianski lets the ball roll right off his hands and into the back of the next. El dumbo dude. At the 11th minute Porto is up 1-0.
I don’t how this goal will be recorded. It could be an own goal by Fabianski or a goal for Varala. We will find out later. However, you score it Fabianski needs his head and hands examined.
I thought here we go again. Not so, fast bucko. Arsenal gets a reprieve.
Fabregas fired a great corner kick near the left post. Rosicky was camped near the right post. The ball went through the goal crease off a deflection. Rosicky one timed the header pass to mate Sol Campbell. Buda Bing. Buda boom. Campbell used his noggin to ram this sucker into the back of the net in the 18th minute.
We are tied at one all.
Thank God for small favors.
We are at half. It is one all.
Arsene Wenger needs to crawl up Fabianski’s butt and tear him a new one for letting in such a cheap goal.
The guys didn’t quit. We fought back to get the equalizer.
This is huge.
This shows what we are made of.
Arsenal has done it again. Another stupid play by the Gunners has given Porto a 2-1 lead in the 51st minute. Sol Campbell makes a back pass to keeper Fabianski. This is a no-no. Fabianski flips on the ground. Fabianski turns his back on the play. Porto quickly takes the free kick. Radamel Falco slips the ball into the back of the open net.
Sol Campbell and Fabianski need to shot at dusk for dumb play.
Now do you see what I mean when I say Arsenal is like my loveable Philadelphia Eagles. We find a way to screw up a wet dream.
Way to snatch defeat from jaws of victory guys.
The pain is finally over. Porto wins 2-1 over Arsenal.
It could be worse. It could have been 3-0 or 3-1.
The good news is that we scored the all-important away goal.
The bad news is this. We really need to work on the comedy of errors we committed on the defensive end of the pitch.
The Gunners made the Keystone Cops look a ballet company.
The Gunners Rocky Horror Picture Show will continue at Emirates in two weeks.
Let’s hope we can put the screws down on the defense.
Two goals are all we need and it is on to the quarterfinals.
Please what ever you do don’t, and I repeat don’t give up a goal at home.
I know, as soon as I say it will happen.

The Blues had a chance to be eight points up on the Gunners but Chelsea’s tie with Hull City left the door ajar for the Gunners to move within three points with a win at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The Hull City tie gave Chelsea 55 points.
Arsenal has 49.
This is a must win situation for the Gunner nation.
Fabregas, Arshavin, and his mates need to step up to the plate big time.
It is kick ass and take names time for the Gunners.
Nothing short of a win will suffice.
Nasri said it best. A loss will kill our title hopes. A defeat is not part of our lexicon.
So, true my main man.
The Gunners have had a full week of practice. There were no mid week games. The guys should be rested. Locked, loaded, and we are ready to fire everything in our arsenal at the Blues.
Eduardo will not make the trip.
Theo Walcott will play but Diaby will be a game time decision if he is fit or not.
Lets hope Diaby is ready to go.
I will be holding my breath until mid Sunday morning.
Go Gunners and kick some major butt.
The other matches with title implications are Man U-Portsmouth, Liverpool-Everton, Hull City-City, and Tottenham-Aston Villa.
The Red Devils should not have a problem handling Pompey at Old Trafford but anything is possible. Least we forget what Burnley pulled off at the house that Man U built in the way back machine in September.
I bet the Red Devils fans haven’t.
When Man U wins this will give them 56 points. This will propel Man U into first place in the EPL.
The other big match is Spurs-Aston Villa.
There is a logjam for the final Champions League spot between Villa, Reds, City, and Spurs.
Lets not forget this little diddy. Thirteen points separate Spurs and first place Chelsea. If either Villa or Spurs can go on a huge run and at the same time the Blues stumble a title can be had by Tottenham, Villa, and yes Liverpool.
I am I saying this will definitely happen? No.
But, lets not rule out the possibility of Chelsea faltering down the stretch.
This years EPL title race has been any thing but sane.
Expect in the insane.
There are fourteen games left and crazier things have happened.

I am sad today. Yes, that is right. I wanted Arsenal to win but just like my Philadelphia Eagles, the Gunners break your heart. Manchester United out gunned the Gunners 3-1.

Nani was the key to the Red Devils attack. I said take Rooney out and force Nani to beat you. This is exactly what happened. I have ESPN, I mean ESP.
For most of the match, Rooney was a non-factor. The Rooney man had five shots. Four of those shots came in the second half.
Rooney scored one goal.
Nani took over the controls of the Man U attack. He ran the offense almost to perfection.
On the other hand, Fabregas had a really hard time directing the Gunners attack.
The only threat throughout the match was Arshavin. He had several great scoring opportunities.
The first one came in the 13th minute. Arshavin took off like a bat out of hell down the left sideline. His shot curled just wide of the net.
A few moments later Fabregas darted through the Red Devils midfield. Fabregas fired a great pass to Arshavin. Arshavin lost his footing and this scoring chance was wasted.
Nani drew first blood for Man U. He fired a wicked ball into the goalmouth. Arsenal’s keeper Almunia missed played the chip shot and Whamo bamo the ball is into the back of the net.
Own goal. Man U is up 1-0 in the 33rd minute.
Four minutes later Nani and Wayne Rooney played a great two man game that killed the Gunners D”.
Rooney fed Nani. Nani made a mad dash down the pitch. Nani nailed a perfect centering pass into the center of the box. Rooney killed the winner in the 37th minute to put Man u up 2-0.
The Fat Lady began doing her pushups.
Park Ji-Sung’s goal in the 52nd minute put the kibosh to Arsenal’s chances of mounting a comeback.
Thomas Vermaelen added a cosmetic goal in the 80th minute to make the final score a respectable 3-1.
In a sad postmortem of the match, three things stand out.
The Gunners forced Nani to become the playmaker. This should have worked but Nani stepped up to the plate and had a hand in two of the three Red Devils goals.
Arsenal could not take advantage of Manchester United’s weak back line. Wes Brown, Evans, and Evra played well enough to stop the Arshavin and Fabregas from scoring.
Arsenal’s attack seemed to be just a hair off. The Gunners were missing the spark and intensity they had in their previous matches.
Speaking purely as an Arsenal fan, I want to jump off the bridge, but hey, Arsenal is like Philly we expect these things to happen all the time.
If anything will go wrong, it will. This is the plight of Arsenal and the Philadelphia Eagles.
In Philly, we have a saying about our Eagles. This saying will apply to Arsenal as well. The Eagles will find a way to screw up a wet dream.
City defeated Portsmouth 2-0.
Emmanuel Adebayor and Vincent Kompany scored both City’s goals in this total whitewash of Pompey.
The dust has settled. The results are in and Chelsea is in the catbird seat with 54 points. Man U is second 53. The Gunners are third with 49. Tottenham is fourth with 42.
My final parting shot is this.
Arsenal will win the EPL.
Where there is hope there is life.
Arsenal and Eagles fans always hope for the best and expect the worst.
Go figure.
It could be worse than five points difference between Arsenal and the Blues.

Chelsea is not the consummate road warrior. The Blues have struggled on the road even though Chelsea have won their last two road matches.
The Blues have five wins, three losses, and two ties on the road.
It is even money Chelsea could either win, lose or draw.
The Blues are perched on high in the EPL with 51 points. Two points separate the top three clubs Chelsea, Man U, and Arsenal.
This is a must win for the Blues. If they stumble, Chelsea could sink as low as second or wind up in a two-way tie for the top spot.
Drogba and Kalou will not play for the Blues in today’s encounter with the Clarets.
Man U and Arsenal battle it out at Emirates on Sunday. The stakes are huge.
Depending on what happens Saturday either Man U or Arsenal could be in the catbird seat.
I want to see an Arsenal win. This is whom I am pulling for. The winner of this match could be a deciding factor on who wins the EPL title.
Man U is not very good on the road. The Red Devils are 6-1-4. This is only two games above over .500
These are the keys to the match. First of all, shut down Wayne Rooney. Do not give him room to operate. Force Man U to become on dimensional by taking Rooney out. This will force Berbatov and Nani to become the bread winners.
The soft spot in the “D’ is the back line. Ferdinand will not play due to a four-match suspension. Spread the attack out and force Man U into unfavorable match-ups. Arshavin and Fabregas need room to roam and create scoring opportunities. When this happens the Gunners can score big.
The Gunners need to attack and play smart “D”. This means Fabregas must be at his best. Attacking and creating scoring opportunities for Arshavin, Eduardo and Ramsey.
When the final whistle blows it will be a 3-1 win for the Gunners nation.
I know this is very simple explanation but when it is all said and done the team that dictates the tempo and forces the other team to get away from their game will win.
Go Gunners.

This sucker wasn’t even close.
Chelsea drew first blood in the 5th minute. Florent Malouda nailed the perfect winner for a 1-0 Blues lead.
Chelsea never looked back. The rout was on.
Frank Lampard hit the daily double. He struck for gold in the 32nd and 90th minutes for the Blues.
Chelsea is now hitting on all cylinders.
The Blues looked really good in this total whitewash of a very good Birmingham squad.
My team Arsenal and Aston Villa tied at nil-nil.
I am not happy but a tie will suffice. For a tie is better than a loss.
This still keeps the Gunners in the top three.
Both sides had their chances but neither could find the back of the net.
Tomas Rosicky had a great shot at giving the Gunners the win but his shot went clang right off the cross bar in the 61st minute.
Arshavin had a near miss as well too in the 61st minute. Fabregas set it up with a drive into the box. Villa’s Brad Friedel made a great save.
Fabregas had a great scoring chance as well in the 45th minute. Damn the left post got in the way. Bonk off the left post.
This is the John Madden in me.
Villa’s best defense was the hardware. The extra defender proved deadly for the Gunners. The left post and cross bar denied us twice.
I don’t care what anyone says one point is better than none.
Fox Soccer Channel broadcasted the Chelsea-Birmingham match so I kept track of the Gunners-Villa match via ESPN play-by-play live game cast.
Chelsea is a top the EPL with 51 points. Man U is in second place with 50. Arsenal is third with 49 points.
The race is on baby.
Do you want to talk about a crazy match? Lets examine the City-United Carlin Cup Semi-Final.
This baby had it all. An in your face celebration by Tevez after his daily double at City, harsh words between Tevez and Neville, Sir Alex and Tevez huge resentment against each other all came into play in Wednesday’s second leg.
Manchester United advanced to the Carling Cup finals with a crazy 3-1 win over hated rival City.
Paybacks are a bitch Tevez.
Tevez scored in the 76th minute to level the match on aggregate at three all.
Enter Superman Wayne Rooney. Rooney nailed the header off the rebound in the 90th minute to seal the deal for Man U.
Paul Scholes (52nd minute) and Michael Carrick (71st minute) scored the other two goals for the Red Devils.
You gotta love this. Yes, folks the EPL race is just warming up.
I don’t care what anyone says. Arsenal will lift the trophy at the end of the season.
Lets start a new tradition. We are now Gunners nation.
I am nuts but this is who I am.
Or as the English would say, I am a bit daft.
This weekends matches will be wild and crazy.
This is called nut cutting time.

Whew, we can all breath a little bit easier. Yes, I did say we. I am a closet Arsenal fan. There I said it. Arsenal staged a furious comeback to beat Bolton 4-2. The Gunners fell behind in the first twenty-eight minutes 2-0.

The first goal in the 7th minute was the result of an utterly disgusting defensive display. The entire back line dropped their drawers and said here take an easy goal Wanderers. Gary Cahill fired a point blank shot from right in front of the open goal to give Bolton a 1-0 lead.
A dumb penalty in the 28th minute by Arsenal’s Denilson gave Bolton a quick 2-0 lead. Mathew Taylor calmly nailed the PK.
Jeez just slap me in the face. It is wake me up time. We better get our butts in gear for Bolton came to play. The Wanderers weren’t just going to roll over and play dead.
Arsenal cut the lead in half just before the break.
Tomas Rosicky nailed a winner in the 43rd minute.
It was 2-1 at the break.
Buda Bing Buda boom Arsenal’s Fabregas scored the equalizer in the 52nd minute. Fabregas took the ball. He flat out beat three Bolton defenders. This power move by Cesc Fabregas forced the keeper to cut the angle. Then bam, score. We’re knotted up at two all.
Fabregas’s move was a little dipsy do-dunk-a-roo.
Thomas Vermaelen put the Gunners ahead on a wicked strike from dead center of the box in the 65th minute.
This made it 3-2 Arsenal.
The fat lady was warming up.
Arshavin put the final nail in Bolton’s coffin in the 85th minute. Shot. Block. Save. Kick out. Shot. Save. Shot. Score by Arshavin. Turn out the lights the party’s over.
The Gunners showed a ton of guts grinding out a hard fought 4-2 win.
There was no quit in this dog today.
Sure, it wasn’t pretty but anytime a team falls behind early and then fights back to win this is a good sign.
The Gunners had a hard time defending early on but they didn’t hang their heads and quit. Arsenal pressed on, gritted their teeth, pulled up their shorts, and whacked out a huge win.
The Gunners sit atop the table with 48 points.
Chelsea has a game in hand. The Blues are in second place with 48 points. Man U drops to third with 47.
Liverpool defeated Spurs 2-0 a Anfield.
This was huge win for the Reds.
For Tottenham on the other hand this loss may have put a dent in their dream of winning the title and holding on to Champions League spot.
Dirk Kuyt hit the daily double for Liverpool.
The win puts the Reds in sixth place with 37 points.
Spurs are in fourth with 38 points.

Fabregas had his huge hands in both of the Gunners goals.
Yes, there was a very close call for the Gunners in the opening moments of the match when Wanderers Ivan Klasnic drilled home a rebound off of mates Kevin Davies rocket of shot but hold on baby Klasnic was ruled offside. The goal was taken off the board.
Whew baby that was close.
The near deadly mishap woke up Arsenal.
From this point on the Gunners pressed the attack.
A great give and go between Eduardo and Fabregas in the 28th minute gave the Gunners a 1-0 lead.
Yes, Bolton had their scoring chances but each time the Gunners “D” shut em down.
Fabregas’s took it to the rack.
This drive forced the Bolton “D’ to react. Fabregas created this golden opportunity for mate Fran Merida. Eduardo took the pass and hit Fran Merida. Merida ripped the twines in the 78th minute to salt this baby away.
This goal was set up by a great defensive play at the other end of the pitch.
Bingo, Arsenal was off and running into the attacking zone.
This is huge for the Gunners.
Aston Villa and West Ham tied nil-nil.
Blackburn shut out Fulham 2-0.
Arsenal and Bolton will have at it again on Wednesday in the Gunners house Emirates.
This should be another battle royal.
Chelsea is a top the leader board with 48 big ones. Man U is second with 47. Arsenal is third with 45. Tottenham is fourth with 38. Man City is fifth 38 points as well but Spurs have a better goal difference. Spurs are a plus 20 while City is a plus 12.
