Mate David Ramirez put this sucker away in the 90th minute.
Lanus took care of business beating Independiente 2-1.
Argentinos Juniors and Estudiantes tied nil-nil.
Lanus jumps into second place with the win.
Godoy drops to third place.
Boca falls to sixth while River Plate is now in eighth place.
There are two matches left in the winter season.
Velez Sarsfield, Lanus, and Godoy Cruz are the only three clubs to compete for the title.

Boca Juniors has really hit stink city over the past few years. Los Xeneizos finally picked up a win. Boca Juniors Juan Roman Riquelme hit the match winner in the 60th minute to defeat Colon 1-0.
This was Los Xeneizos second win of season.
Boca has two wins, one draw, and four losses.
Los Xeneizos is currently in 17th place.
River Plate is getting better.
Los Millionaires is currently in fourth place with 12 points.
Top dog is Estudiantes with 15 points in the Clausura.
The past five years Argentinos futebol has been turned on its ear.
Super powers Boca Juniors and River Plate have been stinking the joint out badly.
Martin Palermo says Boca “Has hit rock bottom.”
Palermo went to on say- “Everyone has a limit and after that they explode,” Palermo said. “The fans exploded. I’ve never seen this kind of anger from the fans since I have been at Boca. We changed players, coaches and playing schemes – and the fans still have no results.
“I share completely the worry of the fans. It’s not just them. It touches me and the team. In my years with the club, this is the worst moment. We’ve hit rock bottom.”
Boca has won four Copa titles in eight years but the last Los Xeneizos Copa title came in 2008.

Mengao was in position to keep the top spot in Group A with win over Cabofriense. Not this fine Sunday. Flamengo and Cabofriense tied nil-nil.
With this tie, Rubro-Negro falls to third place in Group A with eight points.
Flamengo has not lost a match in the Carioca competition.
Mengao has two wins and two draws so far in the phase of the Carioca.
Vasco is top dog with nine points.
Boavista-RJ is in second place with nine points but Gigante da Colina has a plus four while Boavista-RJ has a plus 3.
Mengao is a plus two.
We were minus two of our star players Ronaldinho Gaucho and Thiago Neves.
Both were given the heave-hoe for this sucker.
This shows Flamengo can hang in there without their top players.
Yes, the jury is still out on this subject.
Mengao has not played top competition on day in and day out basis.
This long grind will begin late May and early June.
In the Argentina Clausura the top dog is Olimpo with 13 points. In second place is Racing with 12 points and Estudiantes is third with 12.
River Plate is slowly slipping down the table.
Los Millionaires is in sixth place with nine points.
Boca Juniors is near the bottom of the table with four points.
Los Xeneizes is buried in 18th place.
To make matters worse Boca was killed by the pole sitter Olimpo 2-0.
Los Millionaires and Los Xeneizes are two of the most storied and successful clubs in Argentinos history.
Now they are a laughing stock.

Estudiantes is the 2010 Apertura champion. They defeated Arsenal de Sarandi 2-0 on Sunday.
This is their second Apertura title in four years.
Estudiantes won the Copa Libertadores title in 2009.
Los Pincharratas lost to Barcelona 2-1 in 2009 FIFA World Club Cup.
Over the past eight seasons, there have been eight different titleholders in the Apertura and Clausura.
Los Pincharratas captain Juan Sebastian Veron said this about winning the title- “This is incredible, there are no words to describe it. We worked so hard. There is no doubt we were the best.”
Estudiantes is top dog with 45 points.
Velez Sarsfield is second with 43 points.
Arsenal wound up third with 32 points.
River Plate avoided the heave-hoe by finishing in fourth place with 31 points.
It would be ashamed if Los Millionaires were sent packing.
Boca Juniors wound up in eleventh place with 25 points.
These past few years both River Plate and Boca Juniors have been playing like crap. Actually, Los Millionaires and Los Xeneizes have been stinking the joint out since 2006.
Both need a big fat kick in the butt.
River Plate is moving in the right direction by finishing fourth in the Apertura. Now Los Millionaires took another huge step in the right direction by hiring Juan Jose Lopez as their full time headman. He took over mid season when chief idiot Angel Cappa quit.
Way to go garoto.
Lopez guided the club to four wins in River Plate’s last six matches.
Boca Juniors is still in a world of hurt.
I hope this storied club will right their ship. If not, it is voce vai Los Xeneizes.
This is a sad but true fact.

Argentinos Juniors defeated mid table Huracan 2-1 to win their first league title in 25 years.
Juan Mercier scored in the 23rd minute to give Bichos Colorado the early 1-0 lead. Facundo Coria ripped a header in the 77th minute to seal the deal Argentinos Juniors.
This title is especially sweet for Bichos Colorado headman Claudio Borghi.
Borghi was teammate of Diego Maradona on Argentina’s 1986 World Cup winning side.
He also played on Argentinos Juniors 1986 title side.
Now Claudio Borghi has now come full circle. He has now won a title as a player and now as a coach for Bichos Colorado.
Way to go garoto.
Estudiantes whipped Colon 4-1.
Argentinos Juniors won the Clausura with 41 points. Estudiantes finished second with 40 points.
River Plate lost to Tigre 5-1.
Los Millonarios have had one of the worst records over the last two years now they face getting the heave-hoe from the top division.
River Plate needs to have a kick ass season in the Apertura if not is voce vai. Los Millonarios is one of only three clubs that has never been sent down.
Boca Juniors and Independiente are the two that have never been given the heave-hoe.
Boca Juniors had their lunch handed to them by Banfield 3-0.
Los Xeneizos finished the year in 16th place with 20 points. If Boca continues at this pace, they will face the heave-hoe zone shortly too.
It is really sad to see such two storied clubs Boca Juniors and River Plate stinking the joint out.
Yet at the same time I am kinda happy Boca get what is coming to them. For many years the refs have given Los Xeneizos all kinds of breaks even to the extent of giving them wins they should have never had.
This is sad but true.
What goes around comes around.

The race for the Clausura title is heating up. There is one week left in the season. For many years, Argentinos Juniors stunk the joint out but now they are top dog with 38 points.
Bichos Colorados defeated Independiente 4-3 on Sunday.
Argentinos Juniors scored the match winner in the dying moments of the match.
Matias Caruzzo nailed a close range header to propel Bichos Colorados into first place.
Second place Estudiantes and bottom feeder Rosario Central tied nil-nil. This tie could cost Los Pincharratas the Clausura title. Estudiantes was in first place prior to play on Sunday May 9th.
Los Pincharratas has 37 points.
Godoy Cruz is in third place with 34 points.
River Plate ripped the twines in a 3-0 win over Racing.
Los Millonarios are in 12th place with 22 points.
Boca Juniors lost to Huracan 2-1.
I bet the Los Xeneizos can’t wait until the Clausura is over.
Boca is currently in 15th place.
If Argentinos Juniors can beat Huracan on Sunday May 16th, the title is theirs.
If Bichos Colorados ties and Estudiantes losses the title is Argentinos Juniors, however if Estudiantes wins and Bichos Colorados losses or ties Los Pincharratas is the champ.
Oh yes, this is fun in the sun.
It all comes down to the last week of the season.

It is all over but the shouting in the EPL. It is winding down in the Argentina Clausura.
Estudiantes looks like they have the inside track to win the title.
They took care of San Luis on Wednesday night with a 2-1 win.
This victory moved Estudiantes into first place with 36 points.
Argentinos Juniors is a point back in second place 35 points.
Argentinos Juniors doubled up on San Lorenzo 2-1.
This was a huge away win for them.
Godoy Cruz is in third place with 31 points.
Godoy lost to lower level club Rosario Central 2-1.
This lost may have cost them a shot at the title.
Godoy was in first place on May 17th but since then they have lost two out of three.
This is a killer.
The boys from River Plate are in 15th place with 19 points. Los Millonarios picked up a rare 2-1 win over Velez Sarsfield on Friday April 30th.
Los Xeneizos are a touch better in 14th place with 20 points. Boca Juniors defeated Independiente 3-2.
Both River Plate and Boca Juniors have been playing like crap for the past few years.
It has been reported that Riquelme could be quitting Boca once the Clausura ends on May 16th.
This could mark the end of great run for Juan Riquelme at Boca.
Football in America had this to say- One of the greatest players in the history of Argentine football,” was how one TV pundit described him a few weeks ago. It’s a huge epithet to bestow on any player, but in the case of Juan Roman Riquelme, it might be justified.
Riquelme further stated- “Sunday could be my last match for Boca at La Bombonera,” Riquelme told one of the country’s main football TV shows on Monday. “Normally given the current state of contract negotiations] I wouldn’t go on the post-season tour with the rest of the squad.”
This is it from the far side.
We’ll talk about the massive EPL season finale on Monday.

River Plate and Boca Juniors are stinking the joint out in 2010 version of The Clausura.
River Plate hasn’t scored a goal in God knows when. Los Millonarios haven’t won a league match since March 14.
River Plate and last place club Atletico Tucuman tied nil-nil. River’s headman Leonardo Astrada was given the heave-hoe.
Los Millonarios are hovering near the bottom of the table.
River Plate has won the most league titles in Argentinos futebol history. Los Millonarios have 33 league titles.
Boca Juniors head honcho quit on Friday. Abel Alves said I have had enough of this BS. I am outta here.
River and Boca stink big time.
River is in 18th place with 13 points. Boca is currently in 14th position with 14 points.
Not good guys.
Godoy Cruz is in the catbird seat with 28 points. Argentinos Juniors has 28 points but Godoy has better goal difference. Plus eleven is better than a plus seven.
Estudiantes is third with 27 points. Independiente is fourth with 27 points as well.
One point separates the top four sides.
The race is on in the Clausura.
Are we having fun yet?
Ask Boca and River Plate.

Carnavel is underway in Brasil. Vasco and Fluminense battled it out on Saturday in the semifinals of the Taça Guanabara.
Due to Carnavel, Flamengo-Botafogo semi final match will take place on Ash Wednesday February 17th.
Both Po-de-Arroz and Gigante da Colina battled tooth and nail to a nil-nil draw. It came to the dreaded PK shootout. When the dust settled Vasco defeated Fluminense 6-5.
The first round the PK shootout both sides were a perfect five for five.
Enter the sudden death PK shootout round. Up steps Nilton for Vasco. He calmly nails the PK.
Po-de-Arroz sent Alan for the do of die try. Make it and Fluminense sends the PK to the next round. Miss this baby and Po-de-Arroz goes home. Alan’s shot goes clang off the crossbar.
Vasco is on the finals of the Taça Guanabara.
Either Flamengo or Botafogo awaits Gigante da Colina in the finals.
Flamenguistas will be in full throat on Wednesday at Maracana.
Adriano and the guys need to put pedal to the metal. Love and Petkovic need attack and rip the twines early and often.
Rubro-Negro cannot afford to have any defensive brain farts.
Flamengo cannot give up easy goals.
Bruno needs to be sharp.
Mengao cannot play the famous Oh Lay “D”.
Let’s send Botafogo packing.
This should be a battle royal.
Sao Paulo had a close call with Ituano. Tricolor keeper Rogeiro Ceni nailed the PK in the 16th minute to lift Sao Paulo to a hard fought 1-0 win in the Campeonato de Paulista.
Santos came from behind to nip Rio Claro 2-1.
Portuguesa and Corinthians tied at one all.
Santos sits atop the table with 19 points. Botafogo-Sao Paulo is in second place with 17 points. Esporte Clube Santo Andrea is third with 15 points. Corinthians is fourth with 15 points. Sao Paulo is fifth 14 points.
In the Clausura, Velez Sarsfield, Independiente, Colon de Santa Fe, and Godoy all have eight points. Velez is in first with a plus four-goal difference. Independiente is plus three. Colon is third with plus two. Godoy is fourth with a plus two as well.
Velez hung on to first place with a nil-nil draw with San Lorenzo.
Independiente defeated Estudiantes 3-2. Nestor Silvera’s strike in the 44th minute sealed the deal for Independiente.
Boca Juniors took on the chin in a nil-nil tie with bottom feeder Atletico Tucuman.
River Plate lost to Colon de Santa Fe 1-0.
Esteban Fuentes nailed the PK in the 43rd for the only tally of the match.
It sure looks like a long season for both River and Boca.
Boca is in tenth place with five points.
River Plate is in 14th place with four points.
Yes, I know only four points separate the top fourteen places but the top teams are beating the teams they should while Boca tied with bottom feeder Tucuman.
River had four points entering into Sunday’s match with Colon. Colon de Santa Fe had five.
Colon flat out beat River. River Plate gave up a dumb penalty.
River had a chance to make game of it but two of River’s players were given the heave-hoe for committing stupid fouls in the second half.
This just about sums up River Plate’s play, the last two seasons dumb and dumber.
