Los Xeneizes is nine points clear of second place Racing.

Boca and Arsenal de Sarandi tied two all.

Los Xeneizes will win the Apertura.

There is one match left in the season.

Lanus sits in third place with 28 points.

Banfield is at the butt end of the table with 11 points.

Newell’s Old Boys are stuck in 19^th place with 14 points.

18^th place belongs to Olimpo.

Sent to outer Siberia River Plate is in second place in D-2 ball.

Los Millionaires sits in second place with 30 points.

First place belongs to Instituto with 32 points.

River Plate in their last three games won one, lost one and tied one.

Sarsfield shut out Argentinos Juniors 1-0.

Rafaela and Belgrano tied nil-nil.

River Plate was regulated to D-2 ball.

Los Millionaires is top dog with 26 points.

It sure looks like River Plate will be back to the big boys next season.

Los Millionaires destroyed Gimnasia 4-1.

The guys in Europe are off due to the international break.

The EPL will return to action November 19^th.

On Friday Argentina will battle Bolivia in World Cup qualifying.

Uruguay-Chile.

Columbia-Venezuela battle on Saturday.

Paraguay-Ecuador take to the pitch on Saturday também.

The major European Leagues are winding down for the Summer while in the Southern Hemisphere futebol is just heating up.

Brasil will start their Campeonato May 21.

The Clausura in Argentina will end June 19^th. Argentinos will take a break and then kick it back up again in August. The Apertura kicks off the Spring months (August) and ends in December (Summer).

The pole sitter is Velez Sarsfield with 27 points.

Second place belongs to Godoy Cruz. Cruz has 23 points.

Hanging out in third place is Olimpo with 22 points.

River Plate is in fourth place with 22 points também.

Los Millionaires has a plus three while Olimpo is a plus six.

Boca Juniors has crept into the 10^th spot with 18 points.

This past weekend All Boys shut out River Plate 2-0.

Velez defeated Banfield 2-0 while Godoy Cruz defeated Newell’s Old Boys 3-1.

Los Xeneizes defeated Argentinos Juniors 2-0.

Boca leap frogged all the way from 15^th place to tenth place.

There are six matches left in the season so Boca has an outside chance to win the title.

This Sunday is the battle of the giants Boca-River Plate in Buenos Aires.

This will be an all out war.

It always is.

River Plate has won 33 domestic titles while Boca has 23 domestic crowns and 18 international club titles.

It is good to see the big boys becoming competitive again.

For a period of six years, both River Plate and Boca Juniors have stunk the joint out big time.

Argentinos Juniors defeated mid table Huracan 2-1 to win their first league title in 25 years.

Juan Mercier scored in the 23^rd minute to give Bichos Colorado the early 1-0 lead. Facundo Coria ripped a header in the 77^th minute to seal the deal Argentinos Juniors.

This title is especially sweet for Bichos Colorado headman Claudio Borghi.

Borghi was teammate of Diego Maradona on Argentina’s 1986 World Cup winning side.

He also played on Argentinos Juniors 1986 title side.

Now Claudio Borghi has now come full circle. He has now won a title as a player and now as a coach for Bichos Colorado.

Way to go garoto.

Estudiantes whipped Colon 4-1.

Argentinos Juniors won the Clausura with 41 points. Estudiantes finished second with 40 points.

River Plate lost to Tigre 5-1.

Los Millonarios have had one of the worst records over the last two years now they face getting the heave-hoe from the top division.

River Plate needs to have a kick ass season in the Apertura if not is voce vai. Los Millonarios is one of only three clubs that has never been sent down.

Boca Juniors and Independiente are the two that have never been given the heave-hoe.

Boca Juniors had their lunch handed to them by Banfield 3-0.

Los Xeneizos finished the year in 16^th place with 20 points. If Boca continues at this pace, they will face the heave-hoe zone shortly too.

It is really sad to see such two storied clubs Boca Juniors and River Plate stinking the joint out.

Yet at the same time I am kinda happy Boca get what is coming to them. For many years the refs have given Los Xeneizos all kinds of breaks even to the extent of giving them wins they should have never had.

This is sad but true.

Boca Juniors reverted to their horrible ways. Los Xeneizes had their heads handed to them by Tigre 3-0.

Carlos Luna hit for the hat trick. He ripped the twines in the 10^th, 43^rd, and 77^th minute.

Boca is really struggling in the Clausura.

With the loss, Los Xeneizes dropped to 17^th place.

Boca has eight points in nine matches.

This stinks big time folks.

River Plate shut out Huracan 2-0.

Huracan’s Ezequiel Nicholas Filippetto made a dumb-dumb play. He fired the ball into his own net in the 2^nd minute to give River Plate a 1-0 lead.

Gustavo Canales added the insurance goal in the 77^th minute.

River Plate has thee wins, three draws, and three losses for 12 points.

Los Millonarios is now in 11^th place.

Milton Caraglio scored the match winner in the 88^th minute to lift Rosario past San Lorenzo 1-0.

Argentinos Juniors Nicolas Pavlovich was camped near the back post. He slipped the ball past the keeper in the 77^th minute.

Racing’s Claudio Yacob missed a PK in the 86^th minute.

Argentinos Juniors keeper Luis Ojeda stone cold stopped him.

This save sent Racing to a 1-0 defeat at the hands Argentinos Juniors.

Independiente defeated Chacarita 1-0. Godoy Cruz doubled up Atletico Tucuman 2-1.

The top of the Clausura looks like this.

Independiente is top dog with 20 points. Godoy is second with 18 points. Banfield and Velez Sarsfield are tied for third place with 15 points each.

Let’s turn our attention to the second leg of the Champions League first round knockout stage.

Internazionale Sameul Eto’o scored the match winner in the 77^th minute to beat Chelsea 1-0.

Samuel Eto’o took it straight to the rack and beat the keeper Ross Turnbull. He beat Turnbull one on one. 

A wicked pass set up this goal from Wesley Sneijder.

It is on to the next round for Jose Mourinho’s side.

When Jose Mourinho was the Blues manager, he never lost a home league game.

Revenge is sweet.

Inter is on to the next round while the Blues are outta here.

CSKA Moscow upset Sevilla 2-1.

CSKA is on to the next round as well.

Aston Villa picked up a huge 2-1 win over Wigan. The difference in the match happened in the 25^th minute.

Wigan’s James McCarthy fired the ball into his own net.

The Latics McCarthy misplayed a no pressure ball and shanked this baby into the back of his own net.

Choke City baby.

Wigan’s Gary Caldwell evened this baby up two minutes later (27^th minute) however Villa’s James Milner hit the winner 63^rd minute.

The win moves Aston Villa into seventh place with 49 points in 28 games.

The race for the final Champions League spot looks like this.

Tottenham has 52 points in 28 matches. Liverpool is in fifth place with 51 points in 30 games. City is in sixth place 50 points in 28 matches.

River Plate finally got off the schnid with a huge 1-0 win over San Lorenzo in the Clausura on Thursday March 4^th. Facundo Affranchino ripped the twines in the 69^th minute to secure the win for Los Millonarios.

This was River’s first win in three weeks in the Clausura.

With the victory, Los Millionaires move up to tenth spot with nine points.

Boca Juniors and Velez Sarsfield had a good old-fashioned shoot out on Tuesday March 2^nd.

Both sides drew at four all.

Gary Medel scored the equalizer for Los Xeneizes in the 89^th minute.

Santiago Silva put Sarsfield up 4-3 in the 82^nd minute off a wicked strike that flat out beat the keeper.

Boca currently sits in 12^th place in Clausura with eight points

Banfield took care of business on Thursday March 4^th   by soundly thrashing Colon 3-1. Ramirez had for the daily double (13, 90) and Garcia ripped the twines in the 32^nd minute to put Colon out of their misery.

Bichi Fuertes added a cosmetic goal off a great free kick in the 86^th minute for the Sabaleros’.

Sapito-little toad-Encina hit the match winner in the 86^th minute to lift Gimnasia LP past Chacarita.

Godoy sits atop the Clausura with 15 points. Independiente is second with 14 and Banfield is third with 13.

The EPL has two huge matches that will take place on Saturday.

They will go a long way in determining who will win the EPL.

We have a hot date at home with Burnley.

The Gunners will expect Arshavin, Denilson, and Abou Diaby to be ready to play for us in this all-important encounter at Emirates Stadium.

We need to kick butt and take names.

Three points are a must for Arsenal. 

Chelsea will have a game in hand. This is due to the fact that the Blues have a quarterfinal FA Cup match with Stoke City.

Manchester United takes a little road trip to Molineux Stadium to take on Wolverhampton.

The Red Devils are struggling mightily on the road. Last road outing on February 20^th the boys from Old Trafford had their butts handed to them by Everton 3-1.

Man U stinks on the road.

Man U will be without the services of Michael Owens and Wayne Rooney. Owens will be out for the season with a bad hamstring. Rooney will miss due to a bad wheel.  His knee is in bad shape.

Wolves are currently in 17^th place with 24 points. Wolverhampton is one-step away from getting the heave-hoe.

Hull City has 24 points too.

The only thing that is saving their sorry season is Wolverhampton has a better goal difference than Hull City.

Wolvers are a minus 24 while Hull City is a minus 29.

I thought Boca Juniors would come out breathing like a house on fire instead Los Xeneizes have with played with the explosiveness of a pop gun.

Boca had their clocks, shirts, and tails handed to them by Newell’s Old Boys on Saturday. Newell’s destroyed Los Xeneizes 4-2.

Newell’s Old Boy jumped all over Boca. Newell’s scored the first three goals of the match. Before Los Xeneizes could turn around it was 3-0. In rapid succession, Newell’s scored in the 2^nd, 15^th, 18^th minute of the match. Juan Insaurralde ripped the twines in the 2^nd minute.  Jorge Achucarro tickled the twines in the 15^th minute. Three minutes later, 18^th minute, Mauro Formica hit pay dirt.

Boca made it close with a couple of cosmetic goals in the 34^th minute and 86^th minute. Martin Palermo nailed the PK in the 34^th minute to cut the lead to 3-1.

Lucas Viatri hit the winner in the 86^th minute to make it close.

Newell’s put this sucker away in the 90^th minute. Lucas Bernardi left fly with a wicked shot that beat the keeper dead to rights.

Newell’s was firmly in control of this match from the outset.

River Plate was coming off a hot 3-2 won over Chacarita Juniors. River Plate defender Paulo Ferrari found the Midas touch scoring twice in the win.  However, Sunday was a different story for River Plate. River Plate reverted to their old ways and tied nil-nil with Rosario Central.

Godoy Cruz started out the season with two straight wins but this came crashing down in flames on Sunday. Godoy and Independiente kissed their sister nada-nada.

All is not lost for Godoy for they are in second place with seven points.

Velez Sarsfield has seven points as well but Velez has a better goal difference. Velez is a plus four while Godoy is a plus two.

Defending champ Banfield is off to a slow start. They have one win, and one tie. Banfield has three points but they do have a game in hand.

Both Boca and River have identical records of 1-1-1. River and Boca each have three points. Boca is in ninth place while River is in eleventh.

Boca is even Steven in goal difference while Boca is a minus one.

There is big news coming out of Brasil. Dunga has named the squad for Brasil’s final tune up against Ireland on March 2^nd before World Cup play begins for real in June. Dunga did not include Ronaldinho. Dunga has come under fire from the locals as well as the press for not including him.

This is a good move. This clown Ronaldinho was a good player. Yes, he still exhibits some of the scoring flair that made him one of the best players in the world but he is still a head case. Ronaldinho’s inclusion to the squad will kill the team’s chemistry.

He is still not a team player.

Good for Dunga not succumbing to the pressure to use this idiot.

The more things change the more they stay the same. Please tell me something I don’t know or I haven’t seen, done, or heard. River Plate is still in the crapper. Boca Juniors can’t hold onto a lead.

When will these two clubs finally realize they are slipping big time. Boca and River have failed to make the Copa Libertadores for the first time in well over twenty years. Oh, God what is happening in Buenos Aires.

The summer tourney the Clausura began last weekend.

The Clausura runs until May.

Argentinos Juniors came from behind twice to tie Boca Juniors two all.

Ismael Sosa saved Argentinos Juniors bacon in stoppage time. He nailed the equalizer to send Boca home with a two all tie.

Martin Palermo rammed the twines in the 45^th minute to give Boca 1-0 lead.

Boca Juniors was in control of the match until the 82^nd minute. Boca was nursing a delicate 1-0 lead. Then whamo bamo just like that Boca defender Ezequiel Munoz knocked the ball into his own net to level this sucker up at one all.

Three minutes later, 85^th minute, Riquelme kissed the ball between the post and the keeper. This made it 2-1 Boca.

Enter Argentinos Juniors Superman Sosa. Sosa’s poke into the net off a crazy scramble ball in the 93^rd minute  broke Boca’s heart and thus left them with a two all draw.

River lost to defending champ Banfield 1-0.

Sebastian Fernandez ripped the twines in the 30^th minute to seal the deal for Banfield. A huge shout out to his mate Walter Erviti who set up the goal with a get pass.

This is not a good start for the Los Millonarios. River looked bad. They hardly mounted an attack all Sunday afternoon.

The Los Millonarios lost striker Diego Buonanotte for the entire season when he was injured in a car wreck in December 2009.

Ouch, this hurts big time.

Both River and Boca have slipped so much that now down looks like up. River Plate and Boca Juniors have been perineal powers in the Copa Libertadores. Not this year.  They stunk so bad they didn’t qualify.  

Boca won Copa in 2007. Boca lost in the 2007 FIFA World Cup final to Milan in a 4-2 PK shootout.

Oh hard the mighty has fallen.

This breaks my heart.

I am not a huge Los Xeneizes fan.

River Plate has taken a huge swan dive as well. The Los Millonarios were fixture atop the Clausura and Apertura for many years. River Plate has won twelve combined Clausura and Apertura titles. River Plate has won 33 domestic titles.

Sure, this gives clubs like Newell’s Old Boys, Lanus, and first time titleholder Lanus a chance for the glory.

A huge way to go garoto goes out to Banfield for winning their first Argentinean League title in 113 years. El Taladro (The Drill) was founded in 1896. English, Irish, and Scottish immigrants founded the club.

Banfield is located 17 Kilometers south of the center of Buenos Aires. The club is named after Edward Banfield. He was general manager of the Buenos Aires Great Southern Railway from 1865-1892.

Banfield was given the nickname El Taladro (The Drill) by the newspaper El Pampero because the forwards on the futebol team drilled the rival defenses.

I knew Boca Juniors would come out loaded for bear in their house the La Bombonera.  

This was Boca’s final match of the year. Pride was on the line for Boca Juniors. Lets be really honest Boca was having a crappy year. Los Xeneizes were play like dung. Yes, it was that bad.

Martin Palermo had the daily double for the Genoese. Palermo took it to the rack and was pulled down in the box. Wham. Bam. PK in the 8^th minute and Boca were up 1-0.

Palermo fired a wicked strike that ripped the twines in the 61^st minute to seal the deal for Boca.

Newell’s Old Boys were hoping for this result. Los Leprosos (The Leapers) now had the opportunity to steal the crown. No way Jose. Newell’s lost to San Lorenzo 2-0. You can kiss the title bye-bye.

El Taladro needed a little bit of luck to win the title. Banfield was locked in scoreless draw with bottom feeder Tigre. Then Bam. Shot. Score. Victor Lopez nails the header in the 85^th minute. Game over. El Taladro escaped with a 1-0 win. Hello championship.

Both Boca and River Plate struggled throughout the season. Struggled is a huge understatement. Both teams stunk the joint out. The players should be quartered and shot at dusk for horrible play.

Boca finished in eleventh place with 27 points. River wound up in 13^th place with 21 points. ‘

Both Boca and River are two of the most famous and storied clubs in Argentina futebol history.

Boca has won 24 league titles.

Boca’s last title came with the Genoese won the Apertura in 2008.

Since then, the Los Xeneizes have bombed out of the Copa Libertadores, the Clausura, and the 2009 Apertura.

River Plate has won 33 titles in their 108-year history. The Los Millonarios name came about when River Plate bought two players from rival Argentinean futebol clubs in 1931 and 1932. River secured the services of Carlos Peucelle from Sportivo Buenos and Tigre’s Bernabe Ferreyra.   

To get under the skin of a River Plates fan call them River Gallinas and see what happens.

The EPL has some huge matches coming up on Tuesday and Wednesday. We’ll talk about them when the results come in.

This is really a strange day. I don’t have my beloved Flamengo to write about. I am lost.

I am lost with nothing to do or write about.

This is really strange but I will get over it.

So, lets talk about the Argentina Apertura. I haven’t written or spoken about Argentinos futebol in a long time.

This is the final week of the Apertura. It comes down to one match and winner takes all. Banfield battles hated rival Boca Juniors. All Banfield has to do is beat eleventh place Boca and the title is theirs. If Banfield wins this will be their first title in 113 years.

Banfield scored a last second goal by Victor Lopez to beat bottom feeder Tigre 1-0 to set up the drama this Sunday December 13^th.

Second place, Newell’s Old Boys defeated Gimnasia La Plata 1-0 on Wednesday night to keep the title out of Banfield’s eager waiting paws.

So, this is the deal.

Banfield leads Newell’s by two points. Banfield has 41 points while Newell’s has 39 points.

Newell’s battles San Lorenzo.

Newell’s can win the title out right if Banfield losses and Newell’s Old Boy wins or if Banfield ties with Boca and Newell’s wins by three or more goals.

All Banfield has to do is win baby.

That’s it.

I am pulling for Banfield to win. I like the dog to win it all.

Why?

Banfield has zippo nothing nada in 113 years playing in both the Apertura and Clausura.

It is about time Banfield wins some hardware for their effort.

The Banfield-Boca match will be played in Boca’s house Estadio Alberto J Armando or better know as the Lá Bombonera or the chocolate box.

This is one of the hardest places for a visiting team to play in the world.

The Boca fans or as they are called Los xeneizos or the Genoese will jump up and down in the stands so that will be life a living hell for the opposition. The Chocolate box will vibrate as if an earthquake is happening while the match is being played on the pitch.

Boca is buried in eleventh place so I have this sneaky suspicion that the Los xeneizos will be loaded for bear in an attempt to stop Banfield from winning the first title in 113 years.
