Corinthians suffered their first defeat of the season last Sunday.

Timao is in the pole position with 28 points.

Second place belongs to Tricolor with 22 points.

Sao Paulo snapped their three match-losing streak on July 9^th with a 2-1 win over Cruzeiro.

Tricolor defeated Internacional 3-0 on July 17^th.

On July 23^rd Sao Paulo and Atletico-MG tied two all.

Flamengo is in third place with 21 points.

On Wednesday Mengao battles Santos.

Peixe is creeping up the hit parade slowly but surely.

Santos is in 14^th place with 11 points.

Peixe has two games in hand.

Since the beginning of July Santos is undefeated winning all three of their matches.

Add to that Neymar is back in town Peixe is a very dangerous side.

Rubro-Negro goes to Santos house in Vila Belmiro.

Fourth placed belongs to Vasco with 20 points

Palmeiras is in fifth place with 19 points.

At the butt end of the table is Atletico-PR with five points.

One step above the bottom rung is Avai with seven points.

America-MG is in 18^th place with seven points while Atletico-GO is in 17^th place with nine points.

One step above stink is Bahia with 11 points.

Two points separate places 20 thru 14.

Eight points separate one thru four.

The race is one.

Mid week matches in the Serie A proved to be very enlightening.  Sao Paulo was sitting in the catbird seat but has lost two straight. The Evil Empire has fallen into second place behind Corinthians.

Timao destroyed Tricolor on Sunday and then on Wednesday beat Bahia 1-0.

On Wednesday Sao Paulo lost to Botafogo 2-0.

The Evil Empire holds on to second place.

Palmeiras picked up a huge 2-0 win over Atletico-GO.

Defending champ Fluminense defeated Atletico-PR 3-1.

Newly promoted Figueirense defeated Santos 2-1.

Peixe is struggling big time.

But remember Santos is coming off two huge victories over Penarol to win the Copa Libertadores.

Brasileiro clubs who have won the Copa title have struggled in the early part of the Serie A campaign.

Sao Paulo struggled big time after they won the Copa in 2005.

Corinthians is the main man with 16 points.

Tricolor is in second place with 15 points.

Timao has a game in hand.

Third place belongs to Alviverde with 14 points.

Fogao is in fourth place with 14 points.

Palmeiras is a plus seven while Botafogo is a plus five.

Figueira is in fifth place with 13 points.

My Flamengo guys are in sixth place with 13 points tamben.

Figueirense has four wins compared with Mengao’s three wins.

Santos is in the drop zone.

Peixe is sitting in 17^th place with five points.

Let’s remember the home of Pele has two games in hand.

It is not panic time yet for Santos.

The boys are off until Wednesday.

It’s the weekend and it is hot as hell. Triple digits are not my cup of tea. At least this beats the hell hole Rogers, Arkansas.

I will take dry heat rather than that hot humid crap any day of the week.

Mengao has a hot date with Atletico-PR at Furcacao’s house in Curitiba.

After three matches, my guys from Rubro-Negro have one road win and one road tie.

Flamengo has played one home match and we tied with Corinthians.

I am not saying this is a must win but Mengao needs to come away with a positive result if we want to stay in touch with the leaders Sao Paulo.

Tricolor has nine points.

Mengao has five.

Furacão has zero points and have scored zero goals after three matches. This means Atletico-PR can be very dangerous. Mengao must come with their A game if we want to win this sucker.

Flamengo has not won in Furcacao’s house since 1974.

The entire Flamenguista nation is happy. Mengao defeated Atletico-GO 1-0.

This was a huge road win.

Mengao flat out took it to Atletico-GO.

Globo Esporte- Pintado de rubro-negro, o Serra Dourada foi palco de um jogo aberto e com muitas chances de gols. Mas quem deixou o estádio satisfeito e motivado foi o Flamengo, que apesar de ter sido pressionado no fim do jogo, venceu o Atlético-GO por 1 a 0 na tarde deste domingo. O único gol do jogo foi marcado por Petkovic, em pênalti sofrido pelo jovem Diego Maurício.

The turning point in the match happened in the 36^th minute.

Rubro-Negro’s Diego Mauricio took it to the rack. He was fouled.

These three points are huge for us Flamenguistas.

Road wins are almost like double wins.

These puppies are hard to come by.

Lomba came up huge in goal again for Mengao.

He made three lights out saves.

With the win, Flamengo is close to the top of the table. Fourth place to be exact.

Com o resultado, o Flamengo conseguiu sua segunda vitória seguida após a paralisação do Brasileiro por causa da Copa do Mundo. O time passou a somar 15 pontos e está na parte de cima da tabela, podendo acabar a rodada no G-4. Já o Atlético-GO segue sendo o lanterna da competição com apenas 4 pontos somados.

Avai beat Palmeiras 4-2 on Sunday.

Leao de Ilha has won two straight just like Mengao.

Flamengo is now in fourth place with 15 points
