The win vaulted Flu to second place in the table.

It is still very early in the season to ring up the white flag however; nine matches into the season there are some trends.

Timao started out very strong last year but by the end of the 2009 season Corinthians wound up in tenth place.

This year will be different for Timao.

Corinthians is strong this year.

Timao has more pieces in place and this will make them very dangerous.

All one has to do is look at the results.

Six wins, three draws, and zero losses.

Flamengo seems to have found a diamond in the rough with keeper Marcelo Lomba. Lomba has been playing lights since the murder Bruno was sent to prison.

The loss of Bruno, the drug addict Adriano, and Love may have motivated Petkovic and the rest to show us how good they can be.

Mengao has controlled the two last to matches.

Flamengo is now dictating the tempo and flow of the match thus forcing opponents to play our style of play.

This was a huge road win.

Mengao flat out took it to Atletico-GO.

Sao Paulo is rumbling, bumbling, stumbling out of the gate.

Sao Paulo has now dropped two matches in a row since the campeonato returned to action on July 14^th.

The World Cup break has been very unkind to the boys from Tricolor.

Vitoria flat out took names and kicked butt in 3-2 win over Sao Paulo.

Both Vitoria and Sao Paulo were tied one all at the break.

Leao then scored two goals in quick succession to take a 3-1 lead.

Tricolor added a goal late midway in the second half.

Sao Paulo is now in deep trouble.

Sure, this is only the ninth match of the season.

There are 28 matches left however if Sao Paulo continues to play this way it be a long season.

Vitoria opened up the scoring in the 13^th minute. Elkeson nailed a perfect header into open net for a 1-0 Leao lead.

Rogerio Ceni never had a chance.

A great crossing ball into the goalmouth by mate Egidio set up this goal.

Tricolor found the equalizer in the 36^th minute.

Jean fired a low rocket from just outside the top of the box into the back of the net.

Then Vitoria took the match by the throat.

Leao scored in the 47^th and 57^th minutes to salt this baby away.

Vitoria has now leap frogged all the way to eighth spot in the table with 12 points.

Sao Paulo is now in tenth place with 11 points.

Tricolor headman Ricardo the clown Gomes warned his side that Vitoria would take great advantage of their home turf. Leao did.

The seventh round of the campeonato is in the books. Corinthians and Ceara each have 18 big ones. Corinthians is the top dog due to a better goal difference. Timao is a plus seven while Vovo is a plus six.

Flu is in third place with 15 points after a one all tie with Gremio Barueri.

Santos, Guarani-SP, Flamengo, Cruzeiro, and Palmeiras each have 12 points.

Santos is fourth spot with a plus four-goal difference.

Cruzeiro and Flamengo are for fifth with a plus two.

Palmeiras has a plus two as well but both Cruzeiro and Flamengo have scored 10 goals compared with Verdao’s eight goals.

Sao Paulo sits in ninth spot with 11 points.

The biggest disappointment is Vasco.

Gigante de Colina fought like hell in 2009 to get back to the Campeonato but now they are stinking the joint out.

Vasco is 19^th place with six points.

The surprise side is Fluminense.

Last year Po-de- arroz hovered near the bottom of the table.

Flu was almost given the heave-hoe.

Now Po-de-arroz is in third place.

Kudos to Fluminense on a great start to the campaign.

Rubro-Negro needs help.

Hopefully the offer made to Milan to only pay them the  salary and not pay Milan the opt out clause.

The supposed buyout is worth ten million.

I have to admit I was very surprised that Mengao pulled out a huge 1-0 win over Botafogo at Maracanã.

This sucker was huge.

Paulo Sergio nailed the match winner in the 69^th minute.

A wicked penetration into the box by Petkovic set this puppy up. He made a sweet pass to mate Vinicius Pacheco. Pacheco dished the cheeky pass off to Sergio. Sergio deposited the ball into the naked net.

Game, set, and match to Rubro-Negro.

This gave us 12 points.

Flamengo moved up into a tie with Cruzeiro fro fifth place.

Corinthians and Ceara tied nil-nil.

We are only six points outta first place.

This was a huge win.

Botafogo-Flamengo is a huge clássico in Rio de Janeiro.

Overall, Mengao played well without Adriano, Love, and Bruno.

Bruno’s replacement Marcelo Lomba did very well in goal. He made several acrobatic saves. Lomba also saved Mengao’s bacon at three times.

I will give him a B plus for effort.

President Patricia Amorim said this was good news for the Flamenguista nation. This win brought us some joy.

In reality, the win took the attention off of the murder Bruno who is now in jail awaiting trial.

Youngster Diego Mauricio and Vinicius Pacheco took a while before the duo began to click but once they did this will give Flamengo a good strike force. Throw into the mix Petkovic and Mengao could do some damage.

O time desmantelado e o ataque jovem pesaram para as dificuldades do Flamengo nos minutos iniciais. Mas aos poucos o nervosismo passou. Diego Maurício caprichou no visual, colocou tranças dread e conseguiu acertar a primeira jogada aos 19. Ele tabelou com Vinícius Pacheco dentro da área, mas o companheiro precipitou o chute e mandou para fora.

A dupla fez outra boa jogada aos 22 e Vinícius, desta vez como pé esquerdo, chutou forte. Jefferson espalmou para escanteio. O Botafogo recorreu aos contra-ataques. Marcelo Cordeiro fez ótimo lançamento aos 27, Juan cochilou e Alessandro entrou livre na área. O lateral do Flamengo se recuperou e conseguiu atrapalhar o chute.

Por causa de toda a situação que precedeu a partida, o Rubro-Negro, surpreendentemente, dominou boa parte do primeiro tempo. Aos 34, Kleberson cruzou rasteiro e Petkovic chutou rente ao ângulo esquerdo.

Sao Paulo got the butts handed to them by Avai 2-1.

Avai scored the first two goals of the match before Tricolor added a cosmetic goal midway through the second half.

All and all I am a very happy camper.

Mengao travels to Atletico-MG on Sunday July 18^th at Goiania.

Flamengo has had tons of trouble on the road. For that matter at home Mengao stinks the joint out too.

Maybe this trend will change.

Sao Paulo is taking on mid table Avai in Mouribi.

Tricolor cannot afford to lose this sucker.

If Sao Paulo loses and either Timao or Vovo win this will drop Tricolor further off the pace.

We are only seven matches into the season. There is lots of futebol to be played but eight out of ten times that side that gets off to a hot start will usually win the Campeonato.

Last year was the exception when Mengao came roaring back after a horrible start.

I don’t think this is going to happen this year.

Flamengo is missing the drug addict and drunk Adriano, the murder Bruno, and Vagner Love.

This year we may wind up at the bottom of the heap.

Flamengo has been playing crap before for the World Cup break on June 10^th.

Rubro-negro lost to Goias 2-1 at Maracanã.

This marked the last match Vagner Love played for Flamengo.

There is some really good news for us Flamenguistas. Ronaldinho Gaucho has reportedly has a verbal agreement to play for Flamengo.

This is almost a done deal according to several sources-ESPN and Globo Esporte.

President Patricia Amorim said it is almost a done deal.

Globo Esporte put it this way- A notícia divulgada pelo “Gazzetta dello Sport” de que o Milan estaria disposto a liberar Ronaldinho Gaúcho antes do fim de seu contrato deixou a presidente Patrícia Amorim animada. Ela disse, no início da noite desta terça-feira, na Gávea, que se esta situação for resolvida, são boas e reais as chances de o apoiador ser contratado pelo Flamengo. Apesar de dizer que não existe nada muito adiantado, a dirigente confirmou que já deu início a um projeto de marketing para bancar os salários do jogador.

The 2010 World Cup is in the books. Spain defeated Netherlands 1-0 to win their first title. I was happy for the Spanish side but I was sad Brasil didn’t win.

Spain became the first team lose their opening round match and go onto win the World Cup.

So much for the press template.

A friend of mine at the radio station where I work asked me what did I think about the World Cup.

I told him it was a chippy match. The Dutch played dirty because they couldn’t keep up with Spain’s superior speed.

It was down right dirty futebol. Especially De Jong’s foot to the chest of the Spanish player.

This should have been a straight card.

The ref had his head up his butt on that one.

My friend is a former professional wrestler.

We both are air personalities.

I am the a futebol freak and Seth is a former professional wrestler working together. Then throw into the mix Ross a hockey nut and Dave a straight-laced news guy makes the radio station kinda wild.

The news guy and myself are the only true futebol nuts.

The ESPN idiots and the clowns in the press are having a cow that Rooney, Messi, and Kaka didn’t score.

Rooney entered the World Cup tourney broke down. He was part of the walking wounded. Rooney has been hurting since September 2009.

This is the direct result from playing futebol year round.

Hey, give the guy a rest.

Kaka was not the primary scorer on the Brasil side. Kaka was the point guard to use hoops terminology. His job was to distribute the ball to Robinho, Elano, and Fabiano.

Kaka’s role and I repeated his role was to dish out assists.

Don’t doubt me on this.

This was Dunga’s system.

What killed Brasil in the match against Netherlands was Elano was hurt.

Without Elano, this enabled the Dutch to marshal their forces to stop Robinho and Fabiano.

With a Elano healthy, this would have opened up the pitch.

Yet, this doesn’t take away from the boneheaded stomp on the ankle by Mello.

You can’t lose your cool in times of crisis.

I am not saying if Mello didn’t do the unforgivable sin Brasil would have won but he did kill Brasil’s chances of mounting a serious comeback.

Brasil played team ball.

They were not a team of stars.

The Brasil press went nuts on this.

Globo Esporte and UOL wanted the likes of Ronaldinho and Ronaldo to play. They blamed Brasil’s defeat on the lack of stars.

Yet, the stars of 2006 stunk the joint out.

They were fat, out of shape, and drugged out.

These stars lost in the quarterfinals too.

Brasil lacks two players.

One is a money player.

This is the cat that can take over a match and score.

A dude who can carry a team on his back like Pele.

A Pele comes along only once in a million years.

Yet, if Kaka, Elano, Robinho, and Fabiano can play together for another four years Brasil will be almost unbeatable.

The second is a stopper on “D”.

Dunga knew what he was doing.

He was fired or quit according to what source you read was because he didn’t placate the Brasil press and the CBF.

Dunga should not have been fired.

This was stupid.

England needs to fire Capello.

Fire the entire team and rebuild from the ground up.

The English side was overrated.

Germany will be a force to be reckoned with in 2014.

Spain is a one hit wonder.

The Netherlands had their chance.

Argentina needs to fire Maradona.

This squad is made up of some real good young studs.

All in all, it was a fun World Cup.

South America proved they can hang with the big boys of Europe.

Spain defeated Netherlands 1-0.

This match was in doubt until Dutch defender; John Heritinga was given the heave-hoe in the 108^th minute.

Spain responded when Andres Iniesta nailed a perfect one-time volley off a great pass.

Spain becomes the first team to win the World after losing their opening match.

To honest with you, this match was very chippy.

Netherlands knew they couldn’t keep up with the Spanish speed so the Dutch decided to play roughhouse.

There were 12 yellow cards given out and one red card.

The Dutch had seven of those bad boys while Spain had five.

Netherlands star Arjen Robben had two clear-cut winners but each time he missed it by that much.

Spanish keeper Iker Casillas came up big both times.

After the match, Casillas was on tears.

Spain’s Cesc Fabregas had two clear winners as well too.

Kudos to Dutch keeper Maarten Stekelenburg played great too.

This was Spain first World Cup final.

The Spanish were ranked number one for most of the past two years.

Brasil entered the World Cup as the number one team because Spain stunk the joint out against USA in the 2009 Confederations Cup.

How many ways can you say ugly?

This was ugly hard-nosed futebol.

It came down to this Spain didn’t lose their composure when the Dutch decided to roughhouse it.

In the end, their patient attacking style paid off.

Spain is the 2010 World Cup Champions.

This is the third time the Dutch were bridesmaids in the World Cup.

This closes the books on the 2010 World Cup.
