De Futebol
We got the result we needed. All we have to do is beat Stoke City at Britannia later today and we are in like Flynn.
Us Arsenal fans know we can always blow it but I sure hope not.
Three points will give the Gunners 58 points. We will be three points behind Chelsea.
Chelsea had their lunch handed to them by Man City 4-2.
Three players hit the daily double City’s Bellamy, Tevez, and Chelsea’s Lampard.
Chelsea started out strong.
The Blues took the early lead on a powerful strike by Frank Lampard in the 42nd minute.
The match changer happened right at the end of the first half.
A great block by City’s Wayne Bridge and whamo we are off to the races. Tevez breaks free and beats two Blues defenders.
The Carlos man hits a weak shot that rolls past the keepers Henrique Hilario’s outstretched paw. The ball does a slow roll into the back of net to level this sucker up at one all at break.
City was in charge after that.
Bellamy’s goal in the 51st minute made it 2-1.
Bellamy’s goal was the classic counter attack futebol. In a flash City was off to the races into the Blues end of the pitch.
This was Katie bar the door.
The Blues were hung out to dry when they pushed everyone into the offensive end of the pitch.
Tevez made it 3-1 after he nailed the PK in the 76th minute.
Bellamy hit for the daily double in the 87th minute.
Lampard added a cosmetic PK in the 90th minute.
You gotta love this.
Chelsea blows apart at home.
The race is on.
All we have to do is win baby.
This is not the start I was looking for. Arsenal gave up an easy goal off a great throw in by Stoke City’s Rory Delap in the 8th minute. Shawcross headed the ball to Danny Pugh. Pugh nailed the bounce close range header into the open net. Pugh was camped near the far left post.
We are down 1-0.
This stinks big time.
We need to regroup. We need to attack and score.
Finally, Arsenal gets the equalizer from Nicklas Bendtner in the 32nd minute off a great pass from mate Cesc Fabregas.
Bendtner showed some serious hops when out leaped a couple of Stoke City defenders to ram home the header.
So, whatever we do lets not have a repeat performance of what happened here at Britannia in the fourth round of the FA Cup. We tied it up and gave up three-second half goals.
We are at the break. Arsenal and Stoke City are knotted up at one all.
We need to come out in the second half and smoke em badly.
This is totally insane. Stoke City’s Shawcross made a stupid challenge on Arsenal forward Aaron Ramsey.
Ramsey is leveled. Shawcross is given the heave-hoe in the 66th minute.
Ramsey is carted off and sent to hospital. Ramsey’s leg is broke.
This is a killer.
The good news it is still one all.
We have the man advantage.
We finally got the break we needed. The guys applied a ton of pressure on Stoke City’s “D”. It paid off when Bendtner fired a shot into the box. Whamo, bamo, a handball by Pugh. A PK is given. Fabregas nailed the gimmie in the 90th minute to give us the 2-1 lead.
Seven minutes of added time are to be played.
We tickled the twines in the 94th minute to make 3-1.
Fabregas fired a great ball to Thomas Vermaelen. Vermaelen knocks home the walk in goal to salt this baby away.
Instead of going for the whole enchilada, Fabregas saw his mate was in a better position to score.
Yep, guys it’s in the books.
Three points for us.
This is a huge road win for the Gunners.
It is 3-1 for Arsenal.
Paybacks are a bitch aren’t they.
The race for the title is on baby.
It will be a full sprint to the finish between the Blues, Man U, and the Gunners.
Chelsea has 61 points. Man U has 60 and Arsenal has 58.
De Futebol
It is only two months into the 2010 futebol campaign for Sao Paulo. Tricolor has lots of problems and if they continue to play this way Sao Paulo will indeed have a very long year.
Rogerio Ceni recorded first blood for Sao Paulo. He nailed a screamer into the wall. Bing bam boom the shot comes flying off the wall into the back of the net. Once Caldas keeper Luis Martinez never had a chance to stop this sucker.
This made it 1-0 for Sao Paulo in the 33rd minute.
With this goal, Ceni becomes Sao Paulo’s all time leading scorer with eleven goals in the Copa Libertadores.
Then the wheels fell off the wagon for Sao Paulo.
Once Caldas ratcheted up the pressure.
Once Caldas tied this baby up in the 49th minute. Uribe flat out beat Tricolor defender Xandao. Wham bam boom, back of the net for Uribe and we are even at one all.
Once Caldas took the lead when Moreno ran rings around the Sao Paulo “D”. He ripped the twines in the 71st minute to give Once Caldas a 2-1 lead.
This was all she wrote.
Stick a fork in Sao Paulo for they are surely done.
Once Caldas has six points after two matches. Sao Paulo has three points.
For the past few weeks, Sao Paulo has been playing horrible futebol. Sure, Tricolor is in second placed in Group Two but Sao Paulo has dropped two straight matches.
Sao Paulo has lost to Portuguesa, Palmeiras, and Santos in the Campeonato Paulista.
Tricolor is currently in sixth place with 17 points. Tricolor trails Torneo Paulista leader Santos by eight points.
Lets shift gears for a moment. We have two huge matches on Saturday in the EPL.
The biggie is Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. City is coming off a hard loss to Stoke City in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The Blues lost to Inter 2-1. This was a hard fought tangle between the Blues and Inter in the first stage of the Champions League knockout round.
Both goals given up by Chelsea were bitter pills to swallow for the Blues. Jose Mourinho Inter’s headman is the former Blues boss who took them to EPL glory.
Will this disappointment bite Chelsea in the butt?
We will find out.
The Blues are unbeaten at home and have only been scored on eight times by the opposition at Stamford Bridge.
Goals will hard to come by for City.
Manchester City will have Carlos Tevez. This should provide an offensive spark for City.
The Blues will be without Petr Cech, torn calf muscle, and Ashley Cole, broken ankle.
I can’t wait to see who dictates the match.
Will it be Tevez or Drogba?
You can sure bet there will be a ton of fireworks on the pitch with these two very intense players battling it out.
We have a huge match with Stoke City at Britannia Stadium on Saturday. The Gunners will have the services of Eduardo available however; we will be without Gallas, Diaby, and Arshavin. This could hurt us deeply if we are not careful.
Fabregas and the guys need to come through big time.
Road wins are a premium in the EPL.
We need to win this baby.
Three points are a must.
When the dust finally settles on Saturday we will have a clearer picture of how the race shaped up for the title run.
Man U has already won.
The pressure is squarely on Chelsea and Arsenal to keep up pace.
All we need is for Chelsea to have a brain fart and lose at home and we’re in like Flynn.
De Futebol
Flamengo started out their match against Universidad Catolica with a dud. Mengao player Williams was given the heave-hoe in the second minute of the match. I guess Williams decided he didn’t like Martinez’s face so Williams gave it a little rearranging.
This was a no-no.
Bamo just like that we are one man down.
Up stepped Leo Moura who gave Rubro-Negro the lift we needed. He stopped. He popped and nailed the winner in the 10th minute to give us 1-0 lead.
Not to be out done in stupidity Catolica returned the red card favor in the 42nd minute. Diaz fired a wicked shot on goal. Clank the ball bounds off the cross bar. His mate Mirosevic didn’t like it so he decided to take out his frustration on Mengao player Toro.
I guess Mirosevic thought he was in the WWF so he stomped on his gut. He was given the you are outta here by the ref in the 42nd minute.
Now we are all even Steven at ten men.
Flamengo made em pay in the 58th minute. Leo Moura fed a perfect ball to Adriano. The Emperor rattled the cages to give us the 2-0 lead.
Vagner Love had a chance to make 3-0 but he wore the choke collar when he missed the gimmie PK late in the 82nd minute.
A chance do terceiro gol saiu após passe de Adriano para Love. O Artilheiro do Amor foi puxado na área e, após consultar o bandeirinha, Amarilla marcou pênalti. Porém, o atacante cobrou mal, por cima do travessão.
This win snapped our winless schnid of opening round matches in the Copa at nine. This was our first win on opening day since 1984.
A huge shout out to the guys and way to go garoto.
Yes, a win is a win but Adriano and the guys were just not quite all there. There were many holes in the Flamengo “D”. Globo Esporte wrote it this way: Para dificultar ainda mais as ações ofensivas do time brasileiro, Adriano não estava em noite inspirada. Mal posicionado, foi presa fácil para a marcação adversária. Aos 34, Fuentes subiu sozinho após cobrança de escanteio e cabeceou com muito perigo.
The Chilean side had their chances but they missed it by that much.
I am happy with the win but jeez, guys we really have to improve immensely if we are going to make it out of the Group stage.
Corinthians and Cruzeiro had hot dates in the Copa as well.
Corinthians took care of business by doubling up on Racing-Uruguay 2-1.
Cruzeiro clobbered Colo-Colo 4-1.
Kleber hit the daily double for Raposa.
Thursday Sao Paulo battles Once Caldas.
De Futebol
Chelsea and Inter battled it out in the first round of the knockout stage of the Champions League. Ex-Blues boss Jose Mourinho is the Inter headman. Ex AC Milan headman Carlo Ancelotti is Chelsea’s main man.
Let’s talk about this barnburner of a match. Inter drew first blood in the 3rd minute. Alberto Diego Milito did a little side step action to the left. This slick move set up this strike that beat keeper Petr Cech to the short post left.
John Terry played horrible “D” on the play.
Chelsea discovered the answer in the 51st minute. Salomon Kalou was just outside the top of the box. He fired a weak shot that bounced past keepers Julio Cesar’s outstretched left paw. This should have been an easy stop. But no, Cesar flat out blew it.
The match is knotted at one all.
Inter began to apply the pressure on the Blues “D”.
Esteban Cambiasso fired a wicked shot but Didier Drogba blocked it. Rebound. Shot. Score Cambiasso in the 55th minute.
Inter is up 2-1.
Oh yes, we have a fight on our hands in Internazionale’s house.
Neither side is playing it safe. Chelsea and Inter are playing fast break, racehorse style futebol. I love it.
We have non-stop end-to-end action.
Both sides have had some great scoring opportunities but neither the Blues nor Inter have yet to pull the trigger.
It is all done. Inter defeated Chelsea 2-1.
The Blues picked up the all-important away goal.
Advantage Inter as we head back to Stamford Bridge for the second part of the story. The return match should be another nail bitter.
Lots of Copa Libertadores action on Wednesday.
Flamengo has a hot date with Universidad Catolica at Maracana. The Chilean side is currently in 11th place in the Chilean Apertura. Catolica has seven points. They are 2-1-3.
Mengao needs to flat out take it to Catolica.
Adriano and Love need to rip the twines.
Bruno will be out with a pulled adductor muscle in his right thigh. Youngster Marcelo Lomba will in goal. I sure hope this doesn’t kill us. This is the grand daddy of em all in South America-The Copa Libertadores.
Rubro-Negro opens the Copa at home then we are on the road for the next two matches.
Mengao travels to Chile to battle Universidad de Chile and Caracas, Venezuela.
Mengao has not tasted victory in first round play of Copa since 1984.
Flamengo needs to stop this schnid now.
Mengao has six draws and two losses in their previous eight Copa openers.
Not good garoto.
Flamenguistas needs a win.
In fifth round FA Cup replay action, Tottenham took it to Bolton 4-0. Super Russian Roman Pavlyuchenko hit for the daily double in the 23rd and 87th minute. The Wanderers hit the daily double own goal in the 35th and 47th minute.
Please say it ain’t so Joe.
It is.
Spurs are on to the next round of the FA cup.
Aston Villa beat Crystal Palace 3-1 to advance to the next round of the FA Cup.
Reading defeated West Brom 3-2.
Reading’s Brian Howard tied this baby up at two all in 90th minute to send this guy into thirty minutes of extra time.
Gylfi Sigurdsson hit the match winner in the 95th minute to send West Brom packing.
Stoke City needed the full 120 minutes to stifle City 3-1. This loss sure puts a damper Man City’s season.
Ryan Shawcross scored in the 95th minute.
Tuncay Sanli fired home the winner in the 99th minute to put this sucker out of reach.
City is sent packing as well.
Oh what a crazy day in the futebol world.
De Futebol
Manchester United had their entire season riding on the line in this match against West Ham at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
This was one of those matches if the Red Devils lost you can surely stick a fork in their season and their chances of a four peat.
Man U came away with a hard fought 3-0 win over West Ham.
Wayne Rooney hit for the daily double.
Both of Rooney’s goals were a thing of beauty. The Wayne man nailed a point blank header in the 38th minute. A great cross into the goal area by Antonio Valencia set up this goal.
The Rooney man and Valencia teamed up again in the 55th minute for a repeat performance. Valencia fired another perfect ball into the goalmouth. Rooney nailed the close range header.
Michael Owens goal in the 80th minute was the icing on the cake for Man U.
Paul Scholes set up Owen’s goal with a great through ball.
The only bad news is that Brasilian Anderson wrenched his knee. We don’t know the seriousness of the injury. After an MRI Man U will find out how bad it really is.
Man U is almost unbeatable at home yet when the Red Devils hit the road they can’t win to save their lives.
Man U jumped out to an early 1-0 against Everton. Then the unthinkable happened the Toffees put the screws to the Red Devils by scoring the next three goals to win 3-1.
This was the first time Man U lost a match after they scored first.
The Red Devils are 12-1-1 at home and 7-2-5 on the road.
Man U cut Chelsea’s lead to one point.
Chelsea has 61 points. The Red Devils have 60. My guys Arsenal have 55.
Both Chelsea and the Gunners have huge encounters coming up on Saturday and Sunday.
The Blues battle Man City at home in Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Arsenal takes an all important road trip to Britannia Stadium to take on Stoke City on Sunday.
We have to win this sucker.
Arsenal cannot afford a slip up.
Three points are a must.
The title is in sight for Arsenal.
Six points are not that big of a difference.
All we have to do hold serve at home and win sixty percent of our matches on the road.
With ten matches left after Sunday the Blues will surely lose at two maybe three, more matches.
De Futebol
Botafogo took care of business. Fogao shut out Vasco 2-0 to win the first round of the Campeonato de Rio. Botafogo lifted the Taça Guanabara trophy.
This win secures Fogao a spot in the Carioca finals for the fifth straight year.
Flamengo is going for a four peat.
We lost to Botafogo in the semifinals.
All we have to do is make it to the Taça Rio finals and win. Then we can kick Botafogo’s butts in the Carioca finals to give us Flamenguistas the four peat.
Revenge is sweet.
This sounds confusing but it isn’t. This is how things are done in Rio de Janeiro.
Fabio Ferreira ripped the header home off great corner kick in the 70th minute. Ferreira showed some serious hops when he out leaped three Vasco defenders including the keeper.
This goal took the steam out of Vasco’s sails. Vasco seemed to give up.
Nilton went bananas and was given the heave-hoe in the 72nd minute.
Vasco was really frustrated. Botafogo was awarded a free kick in the 83rd minute. This well placed free kick into the top of the box forced Gigante Colina defender Titi to grab Fogao attacker Loco Abreu.
Abreu nailed this sucker in the 84th minute to seal the deal for Botafogo.
Fogao wins in a cakewalk 2-0.
Revenge is sweet for Botafogo. Fogao lost to Vasco 6-0 in the preliminary round of the Guanabara.
The Evil Empire Sao Paulo had their heads handed to them by Palmeiras. Palmeiras snapped a three match winless streak. The Palmeirenses were calling for head of new head coach Antonio Carlos. Carlos took over after Muricy Ramalho was fired after the 4-1 loss to Sao Caetano.
Tricolor’s Xandao committed a stupid challenge in the 52nd minute when Eduardo flat out beat him. Xandao was given the red card.
His heave-hoe led directly to both of Verdao’s goals in the 54th and 69th minute by Robert.
In the Clausura, River Plate and Arsenal de Sarandi tied at one all. Boca Juniors and Godoy tied at one all as well.
Both River Plate and Boca are struggling big time. Neither side can get off the schnid and get the “W”.
This is very sad to see these two storied clubs stinking joint out big time.
Velez Sarsfield and Colon de Santa Fe each have eleven points. Velez has a plus seven-goal difference to give them first place. Colon has a plus three-goal difference.
Godoy is in third place with nine points.
Boca is in tenth place with six points.
River Plate is currently in fifteenth place with five points.
De Futebol
Manchester City and Liverpool had the world to play for instead both sides played with a whimper.
The Reds and City managed a scoreless draw.
Way to go guys instead of going balls to the wall you clowns played it safe and wound kissing your sister.
Way to pepper the keepers guys. I mean it was amazing. A total of twelve shots by both sides. Seven by Liverpool and five by City with only a grand total of two on target shows me that you clowns were really pressing for the all-important “W”.
Here is a news flash Liverpool and City. Manchester United is wobbly. Three points would have gone a long way to cut the gap.
If City would have won you have been seven points out of third place and nine points out of second.
If the Reds would have won you would be only eight points out of third and ten points out of second.
City and the Reds really have shot themselves in the foot.
This is why you are having crappy seasons.
Tottenham finally decided to step up to the plate and get an all-important road win. Spurs shut out Wigan 3-0.
Roman Pavlyuchenko came off the bench to hit for the daily double. He struck for pay dirt in the 84th and 90th minute.
Superman Jermain Defoe nailed the winner in the 27th minute to give Spurs the early 1-0.
This win propels Tottenham to fourth place with 45 points.
Yes, City has 45 points as well but Spurs have a better goal difference. Spurs are a plus 22 while City is a plus 15.
Blackburn whitewashed Bolton 3-0.
Aston Villa killed Burnley 5-2.
Fulham doubled up Birmingham 2-1.
This loss knocked Blues out of the race for the final Champions League spot.
Chelsea remains top dog with 61 points. Man U is in second place with 57 points. Arsenal is third with 55. Tottenham is fourth 46. City is fifth with 46.
There are eleven matches left and this means anything can happen.
Thirty-three points are a ton of points to play for.
Lets see where the point’s fall where they may.
De Futebol
What did I tell ya. The EPL champ will have the best road record. Man U’s road woes continued at Elwood Park. Everton took it to the mighty Red Devils. The Toffees whopped em good. The final tally was 3-1 Everton.
This gives the mighty men of Old Trafford five road losses. Yes, count em five road losses.
This is huge for us Arsenal fans. This loss opens up the door for Arsenal. A win today against Sunderland and we will have cut the gap to two points behind Man U.
All we need is to have Chelsea to lose to Wolverhampton.
Go ahead and make my day.
My instincts tell me that with Rio and Nani out due to suspension will really hurt the Red Devils. Add on top of that Ryan Giggs gone because of a broken forearm you have a really depleted Red Devils side ripe for the taking.
This is exactly what the Toffees did.
Give Everton all the credit. The Toffees flat out took it Man U.
The Toffees have now beaten both Man U and Chelsea at home.
Home cooking goes a long way.
Rio Ferdinand’s absence really hurt the Man U “D”.
With Rio in the line up, I don’t think the Toffees would have scored.
Man U opened the scoring in the 16th minute. Berbatov one timed a great centering pass from mate Valencia for 1-0 Man U lead.
Then all hell broke loose. Everton kept applying the pressure.
The Toffees were like a pressure cooker. They kept the steam up and then the lid blew off this baby.
Everton’s Diniyar Bilyaletdinov nailed a perfect long-range ball in the 19th minute to even this sucker up at one all. Red Devil’s keeper Van der Sar never even flinched. He had his cement shoes on.
The Toffees scored the go ahead goal in the 76th minute. Dan Gosling back heeled a great cross from mate Steven Pienaar for a 2-1 Everton lead.
Everton put the final nail in the coffin in the 90th minute. Jack Rodwell wove his way through the entire Man U back line. He teed up a great shot that made went flying past the sprawled out keeper Edwin Van de Sar.
Final score was 3-1 Everton.
Well Chelsea is well on their way to giving Wolves a futebol lesson. Didier Drogba has hit for the daily double.
The Blues have it in cruise control.
Chelsea is well on its way to a huge road win.
The Blues have 2-0 lead with ten minutes left.
Arsenal on the other hand is in a dogfight with Sunderland. Nicklas Bendtner rammed home a point blank gimmie shot in the 27th minute to give us 1-0 lead.
Cesc Fabregas set this baby up with a great run into the box. He made a great pass right through the goal crease to left post.
This created the walk in goal for Bendtner.
This is way this baby stands with about thirteen minutes remaining.
If things remain the same, Chelsea will have 61 points. Man U remains at 57 points. Arsenal is still with in striking distance with 55 points.
It is all over but the shouting as Chelsea cruised to a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton.
This gives the Blues seven road wins on the season. Chelsea is 7-3-4 on the road. Man U drops to 7-2-5. Arsenal remains at 6-3-4.
Finally, we get another goal in the dying moments of the match against Sunderland. Cesc Fabregas nailed the PK kick to put this guy out of reach.
We can all breath a huge sigh of relief.
The Gunners are up 2-0 in the 90th minute.
Thank God for small favors.
It is all over. We pick up the all-important three points.
The top of the table looks like this after Saturdays encounters.
Chelsea is the top gun with 61 points. Man U is second with 57 and Arsenal is third with 55.
The race is on baby.
Man U is wobbly on the road. Chelsea has their troubles as well. It will come down to this. Beat the teams you should. Hold serve at home. Have more wins than losses or ties on the road.
Trust me on this.
Man U’s loss to Everton may have well cost them a shot at the four peat. Better yet this may have cost the Red Devils second place in the table as well.
De Futebol
We have some huge fixtures on Saturday and Sunday in the EPL. Manchester United and Everton battle each other in Everton’s house Elwood Park.
The Red Devils are a scant one point behind league leaders Chelsea. Rooney and the guys need to come out breathing fire. In Man U’s last five road games, they have two wins, two draws, and one loss.
Man U has struggled on the road. The Red Devils are coming off a road tie with Aston Villa. This road match will be a key test to see if the Red Devils can become the first EPL team to get a four peat.
Rooney, Berbatov, and Anderson need to attack and create a ton of scoring chances. Rio Ferdinand and Nani will not play due to suspensions.
Without Rio and Nani Man U could pull a Keystone Cops routine on the defensive end of the pitch
With Giggs out due to a broken forearm this will hurt Man U a lot. How much? This depends on Berbatov.
The Toffees will be missing one of their key players too. Midfielder Tim Cahill will be out at least three weeks with a pulled calf muscle.
We have a huge match against Sunderland at Emirates on Saturday. Let’s hope we put the fiasco of what happened in Portugal behind us.
I hope someone slapped Fabianski upside the head for his stupid and dumb play in net against Porto on Wednesday.
This bum Fabianski needs to wake up and make sure he doesn’t play stupid in goal if Arsenal is forced to use this clown in goal if Almunia is not ready to go.
Both Diaby and Gallas will be out. This is going to kill us but I am sure the return of Alex Song will help.
God please don’t let us pull another Rocky Horror Picture Show at home.
The Gunners need to take care of business at home.
Arsenal needs to take names and kick butt.
Fabregas and the guys need to torch the twines.
Chelsea has a road trip to Wolverhampton. Chelsea has a habit of losing on the road. The Blues are coming off a huge road loss to Everton. Wolves are not that good. In plain English, they stink big time.
Let’s hope the Blues have a brain fart and lose big time.
Over the past few weeks, the big boys have stubbed their toes big time on the road.
The EPL winner will have the best road record.
Chelsea is 6-3-4 on the road. Man U is 7-2-4. Arsenal is 6-3-4.
Last year Chelsea, Man U, and Arsenal had a combined nine total road losses. Right now, they have a combined twelve losses with 12 matches left in the season.
They key is hold serve at home and win at least 55 to 60% of your road matches.
When the dust settles the EPL title race will come more into focus.
De Futebol
Mengao can blame the ref for not showing the exit to Botafogo’s Fahel but it all comes down to this. If you waste scoring chances and you play defense like a little old lady you will surely lose.
This is exactly what happened to Flamengo in the semifinals of the Taça Guanabara Wednesday night at Maracana.
Flamengo lost to hated foe Botafogo 2-1. Am I sad? Does a chicken have lips? Does the Pope shit in the woods?
Give me a break. In a span of ten hours on Wednesday, both of my teams have stunk the joint out.
Arsenal decided to play like Monty Hall and Let’s Make a Deal. Maybe the Gunners were trying to out do Arsenio Hall. This is what I know for sure. This Keystone Cop routine has to stop.
Maybe Arsenal and the Philadelphia Eagles should join forces and shoot themselves in the foot.
Mengao jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. Rubro-Negro made a great steal in their defensive end of the pitch. In flash Flamengo rammed the ball down the pitch. In a matter of moments, Pacheco beat two defenders. He walked the ball into the back of the net in the 25thminute to give us Flamenguistas a 1-0 lead.
I thought Jeez, Mengao is sure looking good.
This was not the case. Adriano and Vagner Love wasted at last six scoring opportunities between them.
Waste not want not was what my mother always told me. For if, you waste scoring chances this will come back and bite you in the butt.
This sure did.
Fogao fired a great long ball into the far edge of the box. A header into the goalmouth. A shot on goal. Blocked by Bruno. Rebound. One timer by Cordeiro into the back of the net. We are all even at one all in the 34th minute.
Bruno looked like he was making windmills on the rebound shot.
Mengao decided to take a siesta in the long free kick by Botafogo. The ball is perfectly placed near the top edge of the box. A header to Canedo. He literally walks past two Flamengo defenders and a dumb struck Bruno in the 84thminute to salt this baby away for Botafogo.
Fogao wins 2-1.
Mengao is sent home packing
What a way to ruin a perfectly good Wednesday for me.
It could have been worse.
A sportswriter once asked former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach John McKay,” How about your teams execution?” McKay replied, “ I am in favor of it.”
Maybe Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger and Flamengo’s Andrade are in favor of their team’s execution as well too.
