Sports/Futebol
A funny thing happened on the way to Liverpool’s funeral. Someone forgot to tell Liverpool to show up. Liverpool shut out the Red Devils 2-0. This was a huge win for the scousers. If the Reds lost they would have fallen out of contention for the league title instead Liverpool salvaged their season with a huge win in the Reds house at Anfield.
Goals by Torres and David Ngog gave the scousers the needed three points.
Manchester United stunk the joint out. The Reds kicked their lily butts up and down Anfield.
The Reds have Manchester United’s number. This makes four straight wins over the mighty Red Devils.
I wanna give a huge shout out and way to go garoto to the scousers for this all-important win over Man U.
The Gunners came up short in a two all tie with West Ham.
Liverpool is now one and one against the big four. Man U is one and one. Chelsea is two and zero while the Gunners have zero wins and two defeats.
Chelsea is in first place with 24 points. Manchester United is in second place with 22. Arsenal and Spurs have 19 points apiece however the Gunners are in third place due to a better goal difference than Tottenham. Arsenal has a plus 16 while Spurs are a plus seven.
Now onto my beloved Campeonato Brasil.
Flamengo is now in a must win situation. The Campeonato race is tighter than banana pants on a duck. Sao Paulo defeated Santos in a wild and wooly shoot out 4-3. Both sides’ traded goals back and forth the entire match until Tricolor keeper Rogerio Ceni nailed the match winner in the 68th minute. Ceni lifted a free kick from the half moon at the top of the box. The ball rose above the wall. It went ker punk top shelf left for the winner.
If you love offensive futebol, this match was for you. There were lots of goals and little “D”.
This was a goal scorers delight.
Internacional defeated Gremio 1-0. D’Alessandro scored the match winner in the third minute. D’Alessandro was forty yards out. He took a few steps and let a wicked shot fly. The ball went boom right in front of the keeper Victor. The ball bounced into the left corner of the net. This was all she wrote. Victor should have stopped the shot. He tripped over his own feet and fell down. You can kiss this baby goodbye.
Goias was leading lowly Fluminense 2-0 but Goias let Po-de-arroz back into the match and wound up with a two all tie. This tie could severely hinder Goias chances of moving into the top four spots of the table.
The top four teams earn a berth in the Copa Libertadores.
Flamengo picked up a very important 1-0 win over Botafogo. Adriano took it straight to the rack. The Emperor raced from midfield straight into the box. Adriano had three guys hanging all over him. He went bing, bam, boom. Shot. Goal. Adriano had his 16th goal of the season. The one on four happened in the 31st minute.
Bruno came up big in the second half. Mengao had a massive brain fart. Penalty late in the match. Mengao’s Airton commits a dumb foul in the box. He trips Fogao’s Andre Lima. Flavio places the ball on the spot. The run up. The shot. Stonewall time baby. Bruno stops the shot dead on. Match saver for Rubro-Negro. Oh, Glory be to God. Mengao gets three points instead of the dreaded one point.
All of us Flamenguistas are happy campers. Sunday night will be a good one for all of us.
The dust has settled on this Sunday evening. We have a log jam at the top of the table.
Palmeiras is in first place with 54 points. Atletico-MG is second with 53 points. Internacional and Sao Paulo each have 52 points apiece but Colorado is in third place with a better goal difference. Internacional has a plus 16 while Tricolor has a plus ten.
Mengao is in the fifth place with 51 points.
At the bottom end of the table Botafogo, Santo Andre, and Nautico each have 32 points. Santo Andre is one step above the heave zone in 16th place. Ramalho’s goal difference is a minus 13. Nautico is in 17th place. Timbu has a minus 17-goal difference. Botafogo is in 18th place even though their goal difference is a minus seven. Fogao has only six wins as compared with Ramalho and Timbu who each have eight wins each.
