Flamengo is on the verge of moving into the top four spots in the Campeonato Brasil. Mengao for most of the season has been hovering mid to the lower end of the table. Then bam it all changed for Rubro-Negro and all of us Flamenguistas. The guys went on a kick ass hot streak from about mid-August until now.
The Boo-Mengao is currently in fifth place with 48 points. Flamengo trails fourth place Tricolor and third place Internacional by one point. Colorado and Sao Paulo each have 49 points.
The Emperor is tied for the golden boot award. Adriano, Atletico-MG Diego Tardelli, and Internacional’s Alecsandro each have fifteen goals apiece. But remember Adriano missed Mengao’s last two ball games due to World Cup qualifying duty the past week and half. Now the Emperor will be back in full force so the rest of the Campeonato better be careful.
Flamengo and the boys are back in town. It is time so lets get ready to rumble. This is a little WWF (World Wrestling Federation) lingo. Those wrestlers know how to put on a show.
Botafogo and Flamengo have a huge derby coming up this Sunday. Mengao travels across Rio de Janeiro to Engenhão to take on heated rival Fogao.
Botafogo so far this year has been struggling. Botafogo is currently in seventeenth place with 32 points. Santo Andre has 32 points but Ramalhao is in eighteenth place because of two more wins than Fogao. Botafogo also has a game in hand.
When we beat Botafogo on Sunday, this will drop Fogao further down the table.
Palmeiras had a chance to put some distance between them and Atletico-MG when Verdao took on bottom feeder Santo Andre. Not in this lifetime. Can you follow the bouncing ball and say upset city. Ramalho took it to Palmeiras 2-0.
Santo Andre scored off a wicked counter attack in the twentieth minute to take the early 1-0 lead. Camilo led the jailbreak after a turnover by Verdao at midfield. Camilo took it straight to the rack. He laid off a great pass to a streaking Nunes. Nunes belted home the easy winner into the naked goal.
Nunes added his second tally of the night in seventy-seventh minute. It was another one of those bonehead defensive lapses by Verdao. Ramalhao reversed the ball and quickly fired a spilt the seam in the defense pass. Camilo waited until the ball cleared in front of him. Camilo drew the keeper off his line. Verdao defender Mauritius was forced to stop Camilo. This was one of those two on one fast break opportunities. Camilo poked the ball to Nunes. Nunes said Oh look what I have. The melon is my hand. Nunes walked the ball into the open goal. Kiss this sucker goodbye. It was 2-0. Turn out the lights the party’s over.
This is three straight loses for Palmeiras. Palmeirenses are now calling for Muricy’s head.
Now it looks like Alviverde is falling off the face of the earth.
The door is ever so slowly opening for Flamengo to win their sixth Campeonato Brasil.
