We are getting down to nut cutting time in the Campeonato Brasil. Palmeiras has a five-point lead over second place Sao Paulo. Tricolor is the three time defending champ. Sao Paulo is going for a four peat. This is the fun part. Muricy coached Tricolor to those three straight titles. Sao Paulo went into the tank in mid-June through the early part of July so Muricy was given the heave hoe. This upset the Tricolor nation.

A sagging Palmeiras squad hired Muricy. Verdao was ready to fall off the face of the earth. Low and behold Muricy rights the ship and Verdao is in first place ahead of his old squad Sao Paulo by five points.

Palmeiras has 53 points. Sao Paulo has 48.

I am not a fan of either Palmeiras or Sao Paulo. I am a Flamenguista yet would love to see Verdao stick to Tricolor. The boys at Bola de Neva in Sao Paulo are huge Tricolor fans. I would love to see Bruno, Liga, and Carlos squirm after Verdao wins this baby.

No, on second thought Flamengo can run the table and win it all. That would be very nice. Mengao is in sixth place with 41 points. Rubro-Negro is twelve points off the pace. Mengao would have run the entire table to catch em. I am hoping but in reality not.

Adriano is sure tearing up the league. The Emperor had two goals in Flamengo’s win over Fluminense on Sunday. He sits atop the leader board with fifteen of these bad boys.

Way to garoto.

Teammates Emerson has seven goals and Leo Moura has four.

Tonight there are some huge tilts taking place. Flamengo takes on Vitoria in Salvador. Mengao has a habit of struggling on the road. Rubro-Negro has to come up big to stay in touch with the top five clubs.

Sao Paulo battles with Coritiba.

Internacional takes on Nautico.

If Tricolor can win, they will put the pressure on Palmeiras to win their Thursday match against Avai.
