Sports/Futebol

Brasil kicked major butt yesterday. Brasil bageled Uruguay 4-0. This was a classic whitewash.  Brasil attacked from the very outset. Daniel Alves started off the hit parade with a great strike to 1-0 after twelve minutes.

Juan added another goal at the 35th  minute to make 2-0 and the rout was on.

There was no stopping the Brasil runaway freight train on Saturday.

www.uol.com.br had this to say about the butt kicking:

Com a vitória, o Brasil acabou com um tabu que já durava 33 anos. Desde 1976, quando triunfou por 2 a 1, a seleção verde e amarela não ganhava do Uruguai na casa do adversário. Desta vez, calou mais de 50 mil uruguaios e superou até as próprias expectativas.

This was Brasil’s first win in Montevideo in thirty-three years. Brasil won in rival Uruguay’s house for the first time since 1976. Dunga’s selection of the team was true. The win exceeded expectations.

Luis Fabiano and Kaka each scored in the second half to secure the 4-0 massacre.

Argentina defeated Columbia 1-0 in Buenos Aries yesterday. Maradona received a lot of heat for his selection of the team. Daniel Alberto Diaz saved Argentina’s bacon when he found the back of the net in the 55th minute for the match winner.

Argentina played like crap in the first half. The hometown crowd booed unmercifully.

Venezuela defeated Bolivia 1-0 in the high altitude of La Paz, Bolivia. Bolivia had their  chances but they couldn’t convert. Bolivia had penalty shot but booted right over the cross bar. In the NFL, it would have been three points but not in futebol. Miss, big time.

Venezuela scored the only the goal of the match when Luis Seijas broke free in the box and booted home the winner.

Chile defeated Paraguay 2-0.

With the loss, Brasil moves into first place in South America with 24 points. Chile is in second place with 23 points. Argentina is third with 22 points and Paraguay falls to fourth with 21 points.

The top four teams qualify for the World Cup.

The USA defeated Honduras 2-1. The USA fell behind early 1-0 but Donovan’s PK at the end of the first half  tied it up at one all. This goal set the tone for the second half. Carlos Bocanegra’s header off a corner kick sealed the deal for the USA in the 68th minute to make 2-1.

This was a badly needed win for the USA.

For the watching the USA National Team play futebol is hard sometimes. The quality of the game isn’t quite on par with the West Brom, Middlesbrough, and Newcastle. These three bottom feeders would beat the USA National team three out of four times.
