Brasil takes on Uruguay Saturday June 6thand the Brasilian side might be without one of their top defenders Maicon. Dunga said it would be a game time decision.
To make matters worse for Brasil, they haven’t won in Montevideo 33 years. However there is always a chance Brasil might win. I sure hope so.
The semifinals of The Copa do Brasil were played last tonight. My wife and I watched Corinthians-Vasco on ESPN Deportes and listened to the Coritiba-Internacional on CBN Radio do Brasil. I know this is nuts but I like it that way. I get these behaviors from my father. He had a football game on the TV and one game on one radio and the other game on the other. Like father like son.
Corinthians and Vasco tied at zero-zero. Corinthians advances to the finals on away goals. Corinthians and Vasco tied 1-1 in Rio de Janeiro about a week ago.
The game was lack luster. Both teams had their chances but neither could find a way to rip the twines.
Ronaldo played for Corinthians. He played like an old man. He had at least three scoring opportunities and missed fired on all of them. The one that stands out in my mind the most happened in the 83rdminute. He beat the Vasco defense and all Ronaldo had to was beat the keeper. He did on the first move but Vasco’s keeper Fernando Prass flipped the ball away with his hand before Ronaldo could fire the shot.
In his younger days, this would have been a sure goal. Not now.
The way Ronaldo played proved Dunga’s point. Ronaldo is not match fit. He looks fat. He is a step slow. He played like an old man.
Coritiba defeated Internacional 1-0. Internacional advances to the finals of the Copa do Brasil on aggregate 3-1. Cortiba’s Ariel fired a beautiful shot point blank in the 75thminute for the only goal of the match. Internacional won the first leg 3-0.
Corinthians and Internacional are in the Copa do Brasil finals. It should be a good match.
The USA played horrible last night in their World Cup qualifying match in Costa Rica. The USA had their heads handed to them by Costa Rica 3-1. The USA is now in second place with seven points. Costa Rica moved into first place with the win. Costa Rica has nine points.
The United States hasn’t won in Costa Rica since 2000. This was the first goal the USA scored in Costa Rica since 2000 as well.
USA takes on Honduras Saturday night June 6that Soldiers Field in Chicago. This is a must win for the USA if they are to stay in the top three spots in CONCACAF standings. The top three teams advance to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
That’s it for today.
