Finally, my team Flamengo played well. Flamengo defeated Atletico-PR 2-1 yesterday at Maracanã. Flamengo’s Emerson committed a phantom penalty on Atletico’s Rafael Moura who broke free into the box. Moura tripped over his own two feet. It was a bad call. Moura knocked the freebie home to make it 2-1.
The match started out very well for Flamengo when Juan made a pass into the box. Atletico’s Antonio Carlos stepped right in front of the pass and knocked it past his own keeper Vinicius to give Flamengo the early 1-0 lead at the fourteen-minute mark.
Adriano header found the back of the net in the 46thminute sealed the deal for Flamengo.
A loose translation goes like this: Adriano responded brilliantly in his first match at Maracana. Moura’s penalty was not a penalty.
Sao Paulo finally played well in their 3-0 destruction of Cruzeiro. You might say a little bit of revenge was in order for Sao Paulo who lost to Cruzeiro 2-1 in the first leg of the Copa on Thursday.
Sao Paulo started out like house a fire. Sao Paulo’s Washington fought off two defenders in the box to head home the first goal of the match in the 12th minute. This goal was like follow the bouncing ball.
Ze Luis threaded a perfect pass to teammate Borges. Borges was camped right in front of the goal and flicked the winner home in the 32 minute to make 2-0 Sao Paulo.
Dagoberto broke free just right of the box and rifled home the winner in 77thminute to make it 3-0 Sao Paulo.
Santos dismantled newly promoted Corinthians 3-1. So far this season Corinthians has been outclassed. They have only one win, one tie and two losses. Corinthians is in 14th place with four points. Two points separate them from getting the heave hoe.
Flamengo is now in 6th spot with seven points.
Sao Paulo is 8th with five points.
Internacionalis in first place 12 points. Vitoria is second with nine points. Santos is third with eight points.
